1/12 Kester's WWE Superstars Live Coverage Review: Evan Bourne vs. Michael McGillicutty, Wade Barrett vs. Yoshi Tatsu, and Kelly Kelly vs. Brie Bella
Jan 12, 2012 - 03:10 PM

Superstars on WWE.com
Taped earlier in Corpus Christi and Laredo, Texas.

1. Wade Barrett defeated Yoshi Tatsu in 3:32. Tatsu got some offense in early, but Barrett wasted no time in cutting him off and working through his move set.

Tatsu eventually made a comeback with a series of chops and kicks. He went for his Buzzsaw Kick but Barrett countered with a back kick. Barrett followed up with Winds of Change to put Tatsu away… [C]

Ryan's Rant: It's good to see Barrett continuing to utilize the Winds of Change for his finisher. I like the move more than Wasteland for the simple fact that it looks like it has the impact required to keep a man down for a count of three. This was a quick and simple enhancement match for Barrett.

The announcers set up a video recap of Daniel Bryan's escape from his match with the Big Show on last Friday Night's Smackdown. When the video ended, Striker and Matthews hyped their no disqualification rematch for Friday night… [C]

2. Evan Bourne defeated Michael McGillicutty in 9:29. The two traded blows in the early going. McGillicutty eventually took control and hit a series of slams and suplexes.

Bourne eventually battled back and floored McGillicutty with a few kicks. Bourne went up top but McGillicutty stopped him and threw Bourne to the floor… [C]

Back from the break, McGillicutty had Bourne locked in a rest hold. McGillicutty continued to work over Bourne with a series of punches and dirty chokes. McGillicutty targeted Bourne's head and neck.

Bourne rolled through a back suplex and then worked through his flashy offense. Bourne hit a diving double knee for a two-count. McGillicutty surprised Bourne with a snap back suplex. Bourne ended up on the apron and he kicked McGillicutty's head off when he tried to pursue.

Bourne ascended the ropes and hit AirBourne for the 1-2-3… [C]

Ryan's Rant: McGillicutty was much more subdued than his recent NXT match, which was a welcome difference. I still don't get why a thirty-two year old man is running around with a young punk gimmick, but McGillicutty at least looked like he was working with one gimmick tonight. Good match with plenty of flashy offense and some interested sequences.

The Raw Rebound focused on Kane's opening promo from Raw and his various attacks on John Cena and Zack Ryder… [C]

3. Brie Bella (w/ Nikki Bella) defeated Kelly Kelly in 4:35. Kelly went through her usual gimmick offense. Nikki got on the apron and when Kelly knocked her off, Brie was able to capitalize and gain control. Brie went right to work targeting Kelly's arm.

Brie went for a series of pinning attempts before Kelly started battling back. Kelly hit a Thez press from the tope rope and followed with a bulldog. Kelly gave Brie a stinkface.

The Bellas performed Twin Magic and Nikki Bella rolled Kelly up. Nikki had her feet on the ropes and the referee counted three.

Kelly fumed after the match.

Ryan's Rant: Filler main event and a standard Diva's match. Nothing we haven't seen before from the Bellas and Kelly Kelly working together. Overall, this show was somewhat entertaining, especially the first two matches. Far too much of it was taken up by both a Smackdown and a Raw recap videos, so if you're wanting to see just the matches I would wait until WWE uploads them onto YouTube.
