12/29 Kester's WWE Superstars Live Coverage Review: Air Boom vs. Tyler Reks and Curt Hawkins, Tyson Kidd vs. Yoshi Tatsu, Alex Riley vs. JTG, and Trent Barreta vs. Darren Young

Superstars on WWE.com
Taped earlier in Chicago, Illinois and Indianapolis, Indiana.

1. Yoshi Tatsu defeated Tyson Kidd in 4:55. Tatsu went up top early and landed in an atomic drop from Kidd. Kidd immediately went to work attacking Tatsu with kicks while trash talking. Kidd locked in a rest hold.

Tatsu fought out and went on the offense. He set up for his Buzzsaw kick but Kidd countered with a dropkick. Kidd hit a brainbuster for a great near fall. Tatsu made another comeback and hit his flying spinning back kick for the victory… [C]

Ryan's Rant: Fun, albeit brief match. Kidd worked a quicker pace than he did on NXT, which always makes his matches more enjoyable. Plus, seeing the rare brainbuster just reminded me of how sickening that move can look. Tatsu needs to stick with the Buzzsaw kick for his finisher, as the spinning back kick looks like it lacks the impact one would normally associate with a finishing maneuver.

2. Darren Young beat Trent Barreta in 7:07. Young took control early by dropping Barreta on the ring apron. Young then proceeded to work over Barreta's midsection with clubbing blows before locking in a rest hold.

Barreta battled back and hit whisper in the wind on Young. Young answered with a tilt-o-whirl gutbuster for a near fall. Young threw Barreta to the corner and charged only to eat a double stomp for his efforts.

The two set up on the top rope, and Young hut the Gut Check from the second rope for the win… [C]

Ryan's Rant: Impressive display from these two. Young needs to work on not sounding like a robot on the mic, but he just showed that he can go if he has the right opponent to work with.

3. Alex Riley defeated JTG (w/Tamina) in 4:29. Riley went right to work and he dominated JTG to start. Tamina distracted Riley momentarily and JTG capitalized and gained control.

JTG hit a sloppy belly-to-back neckbreaker followed by a swinging neckbreaker for a near fall. Riley fought back and hit JTG with a spinebuster. Moments later, Riley hit the Final Score for the win.

After the match, Riley celebrated in the crowd… [C]

Ryan's Rant: That's like the sixth name Riley's finisher has been given. I think Riley would be better served with a gimmick overhaul rather than trying to come up with various high-school related puns for the outdated Varsity Villain gimmick.

The Raw Rebound focused on CM Punk's presence in his hometown and how John Laurinaitis screwed him in his gauntlet match… [C]

4. Air Boom defeated Tyler Reks and Curt Hawkins in a non-title match in 11:40. Kingston and Hawkins started the match and traded control several times. Kingston tagged in Bourne and they double-teamed Hawkins. Hawkins responded by driving Bourne to his corner, and he tagged in Reks.

Air Boom continuing to dictate the pace of the match and they double-teamed Reks. Kingston hit a cross body to Reks' back. Reks battled back and tagged in Hawkins, and the heels went to work wearing down Kingston.

Kingston battled back and hit a suicide dive on Hawkins. Bourne took out Reks, and the babyfaces celebrated as the show went to break... [C]

Air Boom continued to work over Hawkins and Bourne went to the top rope. Reks got in his way and hit him with his Burning Hammer. Hawkins made the cover and Kingston broke the count for a great near fall. The heels proceeded to pick apart Bourne.

Bourne eventually got the hot tag to Kingston, who immediately went to work on Reks. Kingston flew through his offense and hit Reks with a high cross body. Kingston made the cover but Hawkins broke the count. Bourne disposed of Hawkins and Kingston hit Reks with Trouble in Paradise.

Kingston tagged in Bourne, who hit AirBourne to put Reks away.

Ryan's Rant: Good match that really didn't live up to the potential of the four men until after the commercial break. Now if only this match had taken place on raw, people would be more enthusiastic about tag team wrestling. Overall, this was a decent to solid edition of Superstars. Plenty of good action.
