11/3 Kester's WWE Superstars Live Coverage Review: Justin Gabriel vs. Jinder Mahal, John Morrison vs. Drew McIntyre, and Tyson Kidd vs. Yoshi Tatsu
Nov 3, 2011 - 03:00 PM

WWE Superstars on WWE.com
Taped earlier in Atlanta, Georgia and Greenville, South Carolina.

Mahal cut a promo on the way to the ring that was entirely in Punjabi. Only words I got were "WWE" and "champion."

1. Justin Gabriel defeated Jinder Mahal in 5:24. Justin Gabriel got I a lot of offense early, with Mahal playing the role of a base to Gabriel's high octane offense.

Mahal eventually dumped Gabriel to the floor and proceeded to brutalize the smaller man on the floor. Back in the ring, Mahal locked in a rest hold briefly before working through his own opening series of offense.

Mahal powered Gabriel into the corner and jawed with the crowd before hitting Gabriel with a neckbreaker for a near fall. Mahal locked in another rets hold and turned it into a butterfly suplex.

Gabriel battled back with a kick combo and attempted and missed a springboard moonsault. He knocked Mahal down, however, and hit his 450 splash for the win.

Ryan's Rant: Good fast-paced match to open the show. Mahal worked well with Gabriel's move set, and Gabriel practically flew across the ring to hit the 450. Mahal also showed a bit og that heel fire he had before his heat was swallowed up by the great Khali. I hope he can get back to that and away from jobbing in the coming week.

2. Yoshi Tatsu defeated Tyson Kidd in 9:37. The two worked some chain wrestling to start the match, and Kidd seemed hesitant to engage with Tatsu.

Tatsu attacked Kidd in the corner and had to be pulled off by the referee. Tatsu grabbed Tyson's arm and chopped him to the mat. He used the held arm to lift Tyson several times before chopping him back to the mat. He should do this more often.

Kidd knocked Tatsu to the floor and took control of the action. Kidd locked in a rest hold, briefly, but then began working Tatsu's lower back with kicks. Kidd locked in another rest hold.

Tatsu fought back with a few chops and a body slam. Tatsu went to the top rope and hit a flying chop for a near fall. Kidd tried to clothesline Tatsu, but Tatsu had the same idea, and both men sold on the mat as the show went to break… [C]

Back from the break, Tatsu was chopping Kidd down and hit him with a running kick. Tatsu returned to the top rope, went for the flying spin kick, but Kidd caught his legs and locked in the Sharpshooter. Tatsu made the ropes and Kidd broke the hold.

Kidd caught Tatsu with a kick to the back of the head. Kidd tried for the Sharpshooter again, but Tatsu turned it into a roll-up attempt. Kidd kicked out, stood, and ate a Buzzsaw kick from Tatsu… [C]

Ryan's Rant: Tatsu should always use that kick as his finisher rather than the spinning back kick from the top. The Spin kick's impact looks like the soft touch of a baby's hand whereas the Buzzsaw high kick looks like it could legitimately knock someone out. I love the Japanese warrior gimmick for Tatsu, and I think the high kick is a more suitable finisher for the gimmick than a lukewarm top rope attack. Kidd impressed me here tonight. Normally his move set consists of rest hold after rest hold and it bores me to tears, but he showed some of the brilliance he has as a babyface in this match.

The Raw Rebound focused on the Muppets, Muppets, and nothing but the Muppets.

John Morrison made his entrance for the main event… [C]

Drew McIntyre made his entrance for the main event, and he looked pissed.

3. Drew McIntyre defeated John Morrison in 10:52. The two battled back and forth in the early going, trading control several times in rapid succession.

Morrison hit McIntyre with a huracarana that sent McIntyre with the floor. Drew rolled under the ring and when Morrison pursued, McIntyre pulled Morrison into the exposed steel. McIntyre threw Morrison into the ring, only to eat a Chuck kick from Morrison. Both men sold as the show went to break... [C]

Back from the break, McIntyre had Morrison in a rest hold that targeted Morrison's arm. McIntyre came back with a brutal curb stomp. Awesome. McIntyre ate an enziguri from Morrison. Morrison hit Moonlight Drive for a near fall.

Morrison tried to follow with Starship Pain, but McIntyre rolled to the floor. Morrison followed by hitting a corkscrew cross body over the steel post. Back in the ring, Morrison hit a running knee for another near fall.

McIntyre drilled Morrison with a big boot. The two exchanged control several times before McIntyre hit a sky high powerbomb for a near fall of his own. Morrison reversed a clothesline into his backflip side slam for another near fall.

Both men ended up on the apron, and Morrison went to kick Drew, but McIntyre missed and hit the steel ring post. When the two men spilled back into the ring, McIntyre kicked the bad shin and followed with the Future Shock DDT for the win.

Ryan's Rant: Well, that just made up for all of the terrible wrestling from NXT. The opening match was fun, the midcard was very well wrestled, and the main event delivered some excellent ring psychology. Make no mistake, McIntyre is one of the best workers WWE has at its disposal, if only they would give him a feud with someone that could carry him on the mic, I believe he could get in a big way as a ruthless, tactical heel.

This was an excellent edition of Superstars, and if you've been pining for some solid in-ring work from WWE, then you can easily get your fix with this show.
