11/2 Kester's WWE NXT Live Coverage Review: Derrick Bateman, JTG, and Maxine vs. Percy Watson, Titus O'Neil, and A.J, Tamina vs. Kaitlyn, and The Uso Brothers vs. Tyson Kidd and Johnny Curtis
Nov 2, 2011 - 03:00 PM

By Ryan Kester

NXT on WWE.com
Taped earlier in Greenville, South Carolina.

A video package covering Maxine and Derrick Bateman's relationship opened the show.

JTG kicked things off in the ring and JTG mocked the crowd to absolutely no reaction. It's not good when you can't even get cheap heat. JTG called out Derrick Bateman and Maxine. They quickly made their way to the ring.

Maxine said they were to be known as BateMax. Maxine quickly turned the conversation to something that Bateman had forgotten. Bateman figured it out after a moment, and he presented Maxine with her engagement ring.

Titus O'Neill, Percy Watson, and AJ made their way to the ring. O'Neill and Watson mocked Maxine, Bateman, and JTG with the same jokes they use every week. Bateman told the faces to leave the ring because they were not invited to this party.

AJ implied that Maxine was a whore and then O'Neill stepped in. O'Neill said that they brought Maxine's father to the ring with them, and they presented the heels with a dead fish. They proceeded to make several more dumb fish-related jokes.

Bateman tried to attack Watson, but he was dumped from the ring. Bateman asked the faces, "Why do you ruin everything?" Matt Striker showed up and made the main event of the evening, Derrick Bateman, JTG, and Maxine vs. Percy Watson, Titus O'Neil, and AJ… [C]

Ryan's Rant: Yeah, the faces were the heels of that segment. Bateman looked very sympathetic at the end, and they have not done enough recently to put heat on Maxine to warrant the constant, weekly barrage of crappy insults. Hasn't Vince told these guys to Be A Star by now? Seriously, though, the jokes weren't funny when they started, and O'Neill and Watson have only continued to drive them into the ground. That was one of the least entertaining opening segments I have seen from WWE in quite some time.

Before the match, Tyson Kidd cut a quick promo about Johnny Curtis, saying he is a man that never got a fair shot. Curtis has longer hair than before.

1. The Uso Brothers defeated Tyson Kidd and Johnny Curtis in 7:53. The Usos took and early advantage and worked over Tyson Kidd. They utilized quick tags and a series of double-team maneuvers.

The heels managed to gain control off of a distraction, and the show went to commercial… [C]

Back from the break, Curtis had Jimmy Uso in a leglock. The heels con continued to work over the bigger Uso brother and did so with rapid tags and rest holds. Eventually, Jimmy got the hot tag to Jey, who darted around the ring and took out both heels.

Jey hit his wrecking ball on Kidd and had the pin, bit Curtis broke the count. Jey hit Curtis with a Samoan drop and Jimmy followed with the Superfly Splash for the win.

Ryan's Rant: Standard tag team fare. The Uso Brothers continue to impress, and Kidd continues to bore me. I've seen him do so much more, but as a heel he's just not entertaining. He spends the entire match locking in rest holds, and that does not make for a thrilling encounter. Curtis felt like an afterthought and filler.

The Raw Rebound focused on The Muppets and nothing but the Muppets.

Backstage, AJ and Kaitlyn were talking about their respective matches later in the evening. It looks like they are trying to set up an angle between the two for the near future… [C]

2. Kaitlyn beat Tamina in 5:03. Kaitlyn locked in a body scissors early and squeezed the life out of Tamina. She battled out, however, and proceeded to pick apart Kaitlyn with strikes and rest holds.

Kaitlyn eventually hit a sitout side slam out of nowhere for the win... [C]

Ryan's Rant: That match was ok, but it never really got out of first gear. The finish was unexpected, but the match did not feel memorable in any way.

3. Percy Watson, Titus O'Neil, and A.J. defeated Derrick Bateman, JTG, and Maxine in 6:32. The women started the match, and Maxine was dominant. AJ's selling made Maxine look like a beast.

AJ managed to get in a flurry of offense, and Maxine tagged in JTG, so AJ had to tag in Watson. Watson took the fight to JTG, suplexed him a few times, and started working quick tags with O'Neill. JTG tagged out of the match, and Bateman took his turn selling Watson's offense.

Bateman eventually got the better of Watson and he and JTG started to beat him down. Watson eventually caught Bateman with an enziguri, and tagged in O'Neill. Titus stormed the ring, but ate one hell of a dropkick from Bateman for a near fall.

The match broke down and everyone got in the ring at once. Titus hit the Clash of the Titus for the win. The show went off the air with the faces celebrating in the ring.

Ryan's Rant: Terrible show. Downright brutal. It started off bad with the opening segment and simply never recovered. I don't mean to sound like a pessimist, but there was nothing about this show that entertained me. The Uso Brothers were a glimmer of hope, but that match quickly became rest hold city when the heels took over. I can only hope this gets better next week.
