10/26 Kester's WWE NXT Live Coverage Review: Tyson Kidd vs. Jey Uso, JTG vs. Percy Watson, Tamina vs. Kaitlyn, and Titus O'Neil vs. Derrick Bateman
Oct 26, 2011 - 03:00 PM

By Ryan Kester

NXT on WWE.com
Taped earlier in Houston, Texas.

The show kicked off with Matt Striker and the two rookies in the ring, along with Maxine, JTG, and Percy Watson. Matt Striker welcomed us to the show.

Bateman immediately began snogging with Maxine and Titus O'Neill said that the crowd was not here to see them make out. He said they were here to see Titus O'Neill become the next breakout star.

Matt Striker interrupted and introduced the next challenge, the Talk the Talk challenge. Bateman began by mocking the Texas crowd and started talking about football and how real football is in Dallas. He turned his attention to O'Neill and he said although O'Neill is a former football player, he is the only one who can run with the ball. Weak. Bateman then mocked O'Neill for using cheap pops. He then said he only cares about Maxine.

O'Neill took his turn, called Bateman ignorant, and Titus talked about his pink trunks, and he said that he lost two grandmothers to breast cancer, and he was wearing the trunks for breast cancer awareness month. The crowd popped. O'Neill said he deserves to be the next breakout star and he has forty-five redemption points to his name.

Bateman tried to interrupt, and O'Neill cut him off.O'Neill asked for the crowd to give him his dog bark, and the crowd obliged. Striker polled the crowd, and O'Neill easily won. O'Neill continued and he challenged Bateman to find a girlfriend that looks like she actually deserves to be in a WWE ring rather than an aquarium. Get it? Because they say she looks like a fish. That joke wasn't funny ten weeks ago.

Watson then took his turn and mocked JTG for his apparel, and for the chain he's wearing. O'Neill chimed in with "My grandmamma gave me this chain," and JTG looked pissed. JTG punched Watson in the face. Striker took charge and made two matches, Bateman vs. O'Neill, and JTG vs. Watson. The latter of the two is up next.

Ryan's Rant: That entire segment was pointless. Whatever love O'Neill got for his story about losing his grandmothers to breast cancer was immediately thrown away when he mocked JTG for cherishing a chain he received from his own grandmother. That, on top of mocking Maxine for her looks constantly makes Watson and O'Neill completely unbelievable as heels, and I'm not really sure how the crowd is supposed to boo JTG when he's standing up for himself after two jackasses mocked him for having something from his grandmother. Ugh.

1. Percy Watson defeated JTG in 6:35. Watson took control to start, and he knocked JTG to the floor with a dropkick… [C]

Back from the break, Watson threw JTG with a belly-to-belly suplex. Watson then hit a leg drop on JTG.JTG hit Watson with a knee to the skull that dropped him to the floor.

Back in the ring, JTG hit a sloppy neckbreaker on Watson for a two-count. JTG locked in a rest hold. When Watson tried to get out, he ate a suplex from JTG.

JTG went for a move from the top rope, but Watson turned his dive into a facebuster. Watson went on the offense and hit a dropkick. Watson followed with his jumping splash for a near fall. Watson hit the Persecution for the win.

Backstage, Curt Hawkins complained to Matt Striker about a suspension he and Tyler Reks received fro hijacking NXT a few weeks back. Tyson Kidd was hanging around, and Striker told him he had a match with Jey Uso next… [C]

Ryan's Rant: I'm surprised to see Watson get in so much offense. I'm not exactly thrilled by either man or their abilities in the ring, but they are obviously trying to get Watson over.

2. Tyson Kidd (w/Curt Hawkins)defeated Jey Uso (w/Jimmy Uso) in 4:34. Tyson Kidd pounced on jey to start, but Jey quickly gained control and put Kidd in a tree of woe. Jey followed up with a running headbutt to the prone Kidd.

Kidd battled back and choked Jey in the corner. He then locked in a rest hold. Jey tried to fight out several times, but Kidd would simply transition into another rest hold.

Jey eventually made a brief comeback and hit a superkick. Jey followed with the Superfly Splash, but Kidd got his knees up. Kidd followed with a fishermen neckbreaker for the win.

After the match, Kidd tried to lock in a sharpshooter on Jet, but Jimmy saved him, only to be attacked by Curt Hawkins. Yoshi Tatsu ran out and cleared the heels from the ring… [C]

Ryan's Rant: That was boring. Most of the match was rest holds, and that seems to be a recurring theme of Tyson Kidd matches.

The Raw Rebound focused on John Cena's match with the Miz and R-Truth, and his selection of The Rock as his tag partner for Survivor Series. They managed to edit out his wad of spit when he said the Rock's name.

Backstage, Kaitlyn and AJ were talking about the tension in the NXT locker room. Kaitlyn said she was going to stick it to Tamina, who was standing behind her. Tamina said she was going to smash in Kaitlyn's face tonight… [C]

3. Kaitlyn defeated Tamina in 2:58. Kaitlyn managed to take control early, but Tamina nearly took her head off with a superkick. Tamina only got a two-count out of it, though, and she locked in a rest hold.

Kaitlyn tried to fight back, but Tamina destroyed her with a clothesline before locking in another rest hold. Tamina went for a Samoan drop, but Kaitlyn rolled her up for the win.

Ryan's Rant: This is one of the more boring episodes of NXT. Again, that match was mostly rest holds, which is ridiculous for a three minute match. Still, the offense Tamina did hit made her look like a beast.

AJ joined Regal and Korpela on the announce team for the main event. O'Neill's entrance music still sucks.

4. Derrick Bateman (w/Maxine) defeated Titus O'Neill in 4:37. O'Neill was dominating in the ring, but the camera kept cutting to the ladies on the announce team.

Bateman fell to ringside, and O'Neill threw him back into the ring. When O'Neill attempted to follow him into the ring, Bateman dropkicked O'Neill. Bateman followed up with a flying dropkick off of the apron on O'Neill.

Back in the ring, Bateman locked in a rest hold and the camera cut to the squabbling ladies at ringside. O'Neill missed a flying shoulder block and Bateman pinned him with a roll-up.

After the match, Bateman proposed to Maxine. She slapped him across the face. They then snogged, and quite hilariously tried to keep her short dress from crawling up. Maxine said yes, but when they hugged she seemed quite unhappy.

Ryan's Rant: Yay, I love wrestling weddings. They are a guilty pleasure of mine. The match was terrible, which was the perfect cherry on a useless show sundae. If you didn't watch the show live with me, then there is absolutely no reason for you to go out of your way to watch this. It simply was not entertaining.
