10/20 Kester's WWE NXT Report: The return of the Redemption competitions, Yoshi Tatsu vs. Tyler Reks, and Titus O'Neil and Percy Watson vs. JTG and Derrick Bateman
Oct 21, 2011 - 12:03 PM

By Ryan Kester

NXT on WWE.com
Taped earlier in Mexico City, Mexico.

Ryan's Rant: If you were looking for my live coverage of the show on Wednesday, I apologize. WWE held off on posting the show for hours after they were supposed to, and by the time it was posted I was attending to other duties.

The show opened with a contest focused on the importance of the ropes to a wrestler via capture the flag. They should get Kelly Kelly out there.

Titus O'Neill and Maxine jawed for a moment about which of the remaining rookies was the best potential superstar. Striker said tonight's contest was worth fifteen points. My lord, they're still trying to sell this contest. Before they began, Derrick Bateman and Maxine snogged.

The two men were tied via a rope as they each tried to fight to the ropes. Titus was winning, but Bateman attacked him to get disqualified. Matt Striker responded to this by making a tag team main event of Percy Watson and Titus O'Neill vs. Derrick Bateman and a partner of his choosing… [C]

Ryan's Rant: Those contests did nothing for me in season one and they do even less for me now. They're a waste of time, especially with how long this show has been running.

Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks made their way to the ring with Hawkins walking via a cane. Hawkins presented footage of where he was injured in last week's match. Reks said that the Uso Brothers were unprofessional and they deserved to be punished for their actions. Reks said he would vent his frustrations in his singles matches.

1. Yoshi Tatsu defeated Tyler Reks (w/Curt Hawkins) in 4:33. Reks started off dominant, but Tatsu quickly fought back with a series of chops and kicks.

Reks battled back with a well-placed kick. Reks locked in a rest hold. Once Tatsu fought out, Reks hit a gutwrench gutbuster in a unique spot. Reks continued to dominate with a series of slams and suplexes.

Tatsu managed to regain control after Reks accidentally ran into the steel rign post. Moments later, Tatsu hit his top-rope spinning back kick for the win.

After the match, Reks and Hawkins attacked Tatsu until the Uso Brothers ran out and cleared them from the ring.

Backstage, Kaitlyn and AJ were hanging out. AJ was reading a letter from Hornswoggle that was apparently written by Maxine. Kaitlyn said she was going to go out to the ring and beat Maxine… [C]

Ryan's Rant: Reks can try and act tough all he wants, but his voice does not match his character and makes the promo fall flat. As far as the match, These two did not work very well together Tatsu seemed to either not remember spots or was simply out of place for them. It left Reks having to make up ground and it all felt clunky.

2. Kaitlyn (w/AJ) defeated Maxine in 4:49. Kaitlyn dominated in the early going, but Maxine managed to catch her on the ropes and hit her with some rather vicious chops.

Maxine locked in a dragon sleeper and managed to get Kaitlyn to drop to her knees, but Kaitlyn made the ropes. Maxine locked in a rest hold.

Kaitlyn eventually battled out and hit a body splash in the corner. She followed up with a ground buster for a near fall. Kaitlyn hit a Bubba bomb on Maxine and followed through with a full nelson hold, but she used her legs instead of her arms. Impressive.

Maxine verbally submitted… [C]

Ryan's Rant: Very well wrestled, and these two women work well together. Kaitlyn is miles ahead of where she was when she was competing on NXT, and her new finisher was unique and made her bigger legs look like a boon in the ring rather than a physical deficiency against the rest of the division.

The Raw Rebound focused on the recent happenings of Triple H and C.M. Punk vs. the Mix and R-Truth… [C]

Derrick Bateman made his way to the ring with JTG.

3. Titus O'Neil and Percy Watson defeated JTG and Derrick Bateman in 10:32. Watson and Bateman started the match. The two worked some chain wrestling. Watson hit some flashy offense and nailed Bateman with a dropkick.

O'Neill and JTG tagged into the match. O'Neill got the better of JTG and the faces began to work quick tags to keep JTG off of his feet. JTG got thrown to the floor and the show went to commercial… [C]

Back from commercial, Bateman was beating down Watson. Bateman hit a dropkick from the apron onto Watson, who was on the floor. Bateman went completely over-the-top with a celebration.

Back in the ring, the heels took their turn making quick tags to wear Watson down. JTG hit the Mug Shot on Watson and tagged in Bateman. Moments later, Watson go the hot tag to O'Neill.

Titus stormed the ring and took out both heels. JTG and Bateman fought back, but Bateman missed a dive off the top rope and walked right into the Clash of the Titus. O'Neill picked up the 1-2-3.

Ryan's Rant: Good action throughout, but the match lacked any real psychology behind it, The standard faces-win-tag formula was there, but it lacked any real sense of urgency. I think the live crowd's disinterest was a major faction in that feeling, and it's unfortunate because the men involved did their bets to put on a show. It simply didn't click.

I groaned when I heard that the contests were returning to NXT, but what they gave us was quick and painless. The rest of the show worked well and we got a healthy dose of in-ring work. I don't think any of it is worth going out of your way to see, but if you need to kill some time this show was mildly entertaining.
