10/12 Kester's WWE NXT Live Coverage Review: With no eliminations in sight, season five continues
Oct 12, 2011 - 03:15 PM

By Ryan Kester

NXT on WWE.com
Taped earlier in Dallas, Texas.

Derrick Bateman and Maxine kicked things off by making their way to the ring.

Bateman mocked the crowd with a hillbilly accent. Bateman thanked the Board of Directors for putting John Laurinaitis in charge. He said that the chaos had begun to trickle down to his show, of which he was the only true superstar.

He then moved on to Maxine and talked about how she was his love. The two snogged briefly before she took the microphone. Maxine said that this show was to find the next break-out star in the WWE. Percy Watson and Titus O'Neill interrupted at that point and made their way to the ring.

The two men made fun of Maine for looking like a fish. Watson said that there are only two rookies left on the show, O'Neill and Bateman. Bateman and Watson traded corny insults and Watson changed directions by saying he cares about the people in the building.

Bateman called O'Neill jealous of his and Maxine's love interest. O'Neill said that they were the most disgusting couple in the history of the WWE. O'Neill then explained that he has thirty redemption points to his name, and Bateman has none because of his lack of involvement in the contests.

Watson punked Bateman for having Maxine fight his battles, and Mat Striker made his way to the stage. Stiker put himself over as the host of NXT, and he made a match between Bateman and Percy Watson for later on in the evening. He said that Maxine was in a match right now against AJ… [C]

Ryan's Rant: I guess Young's suspension automatically eliminated him from the contest because I do not recall an elimination taking place on this show in the past few weeks. Now if we can just get a final elimination. However, they avoided even calling each other finalists in this segment, which leads me to believe they will drag this stretch of the show out for as long as humanly possible.

1. AJ defeated Maxine in 4:58. The match was joined in progress. Maxine was dominant, and she bent AJ in half by choking her on the ropes. Maxine locked in a dragon sleeper and continued to contort AJ.

AJ attempted to right back, bot Maxine hit her with a firemen's carry hotshot. Maxine locked in a modified camel clutch for a brief time before slamming AJ's face into the mat. AJ attempted to fight again, but Maxine hit her in the throat with an elbow and hit a snap suplex.

Maxine returned to the dragon sleeper, but AJ punched her way out. AJ managed to get some distance at one point, got to the top rope, and hit a high cross body. AJ hit a spinning back kick for a near fall.

Maxine hit a hair-pull backbreaker out of nowhere, but AJ recovered and hit her Shining Wizard kick for the win… [C]

Ryan's Rant: Lord, can AJ sell. She's not the best wrestler in the division, but she can make anyone she wrestles look like a star simply by bumping. The match was alright, but it never got into a high gear.

The announcers took us through a video of last week's match between the Uso Brothers and Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks.

Matt Striker interviewed Hawkins and Reks. Hawkins said that the two men did not need a lineage to be great superstars... [C]

The Raw Rebound aired, focusing on all of the chaos from Monday Night.

2. The Uso Brothers beat Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks in 12:28. Jimmy Uso and Curt Hawkins started the match, with Jimmy getting the better of Hawkins, Jimmy quickly tagged Jey and the fresh Uso tore into Hawkins.

The Usos worked some rapid-fire tags to keep Hawkins off of his feet and to hit double-team maneuvers. Hawkins eventually managed to tag in Tyler Reks, who immediately gained control for his team. Reks missed a knee drop and tagged Hawkins back into the match.

The Usos regained control when Hawkins Jey got him in his corner. The Usos returned to working quick tags to hit double-team moves on Hawkins. Jimmy Uso hit a dive onto Hawkins, who had fallen to the floor. Jey took out Reks, and the Usos stood strong in the ring as the show went to commercial… [C]

Back from commercial, Reks blind-tagged into the match and took out Jimmy Uso. Then, it was the heel team's turn to work rapid tags to damage their opponent. Reks hit Jimmy Uso with a body slam onto Hawkins' knees in a cool spot. Jey Uso revved the crowd up while Hawkins and Reks continued to work over his brother.

Jimmy managed to knock both heels to the floor and Jey Uso stomped the steps as the slowly crawled across the ring. Jey got the hot tag and immediately lit up the ring with his move set. Jey hit a wrecking ball on Reks and went to the top rope for the Superfly Splash.

Reks managed to get to his feet and reversed the attack into a powerslam. Wow. Reks set up for his Burning Hammer, but Jimmy Tagged into the match. The Usos hit a double superkick and quickly followed up with a double Superfly Splash for the 1-2-3. Wow… [C]

Ryan's Rant: Great tag action, and I am really enjoying both of these teams. If they scrap the contest aspect of this show and just use it to showcase talent and give them a place to get some exposure, I would be thrilled, especially if we get this length and quality from each contest.

3. Percy Watson defeated Derrick Bateman in 7:00. Watson controlled early with some quick moves and a drop kick. Watson hit a northern lights suplex without a bride for a two-count.

Watson attempted to do a springboard move from the corner, but Bateman dropkicked him from behind and took control. Bateman threw Watson into the corner hard, and followed up with a rest hold. Watson eventually fought out of it, but Bateman kept him at a disadvantage with a kick.

Bateman choked Watson on the ropes and ran the ropes. He went for a cross body, but Watson had the same idea and both men crashed to the mat. Moments later, Bateman locked in an abdominal stretch. Watson fought out within moments, but was met with a dropkick for his efforts.

Watson got in some punches and hit a body slam on Bateman. Watson hit his jumping splash for a near fall. Bateman hit a gordbuster and followed up with a running neckbreaker for a near fall. Moments later, Watson hit a fireman's carry flapjack for the win.

Ryan's Rant: Throughout the match, the announcers were trying to put Watson over as someone that can bench press 500 pounds, which is just ridiculous. The man's a quick guy, don't try and sell him as a body builder. The actual match was pretty boring. They worked a slow rate throughout and the crowd didn't seem into the match whatsoever. I like seeing a rookie wrestling on the show made for rookies, but this match following the great tag match earlier really did it some damage.

Overall, this show was ok. Nothing really of note at the two ends of the show, but the tag match in the middle is worth going out of your way to see, especially if you're a fan of tag team wrestling and haven't been getting your fix of it in WWE.
