7/15 Powell's ECW Live Coverage: Matt and Jeff Hardy vs. John Morrison and The Miz, Mark Henry and Tony Atlas
By Jason Powell Jul 15, 2008 - 10:00 PM

ECW on The SciFi Network
Taped in Charlotte, N.C.

[Q1] Highlights aired from last week of Tony Atlas helping Mark Henry last week... The opening montage aired... Mike Adamle introduced the show from ringside... In the ring, Tazz introduced "The World's Strongest Champion." Mark Henry and Tony Atlas walked to the ring together.

Tazz asked Atlas why he would join Henry. Atlas recalled Henry telling him that he would have to carry his bags to get a payday. He said he wouldn't carry just anyone's bags, but he'd graciously do it for Henry. Atlas had a crew member bring a frying pan into the ring and then asked the crowd if they knew what it was. He said it came straight from the store and hadn't been tampered with.

For some reason, Atlas didn't think the crowd believed him, so he had Henry tap it against the ring post a couple times. Atlas asked for volunteers to step up and attempt to bend the frying pan. Henry pointed out a fan in the front row who joined them in the ring. He had the man feel the pan and tell people it was real.

"You're pretty strong, aren't you, son?" Atlas asked. The man replied, "No, sir," then corrected himself. He tried to bend the pan and couldn't. The man left the ring. Atlas handed the frying pan to Henry, who bent the pan. "Mark Henry doesn't like to show off, but when he gets the opportunity or is called up on to do it, he will," Adamle said. What?

Tommy Dreamer came out and tried to bend a different frying pan. Fortunately, Atlas didn't have one of the fans enter the ring to prove that it wasn't a reenforced pan. Dreamer tried and failed to bend the pan, but then he smacked Henry over the head with it. Dreamer left the ring with his frying pan... [C]

Powell's POV: I'll guarantee you there are about thousands of people across the country trying to bend frying pans right now. I just asked my girlfriend if I could try to bend one of our pans. She won't let me because she's afraid I'll hurt myself. Thanks for the vote of confidence, honey.

[Q2] Backstage, Teddy Long scolded Dreamer for hitting Henry with the frying pan. He said this is Raw and he won't have civil unrest. Dreamer was upset when he left. Adamle said Dreamer can't help it because it's in his DNA. Groan...

1. Mike Knox beat Shannon Moore in 2:30. Adamle pointed out before the match that Moore was a local favorite. Knox used his nameless finisher and then scored the pin...

Highlights aired from Raw of Stephanie and Shane McMahon's plea to the Raw crew to work together, which had clips of some of the wilder moments from the show spliced in. The video concluded with JBL attempting to turn Cena into roadkill... [C]

Powell's POV: Somehow they managed to get a camera shot from inside the car that JBL struck. The owner must have accidentally left the camera recording and pointed in just the right direction. How lucky is that?

[Q3] 2. Evan Bourne pinned Chavo Guerrero (w/Bam Neely) in 3:03. Before the match, a pretaped Evan promo aired. He said he'll defy the odds in this match because he defies gravity. Ugh. Evan tried to go up top early, but Chavo caught him and knocked him off the top rope. Bourne took a nice bump by slamming his head into the ring apron on the way down.

After Bourne hit a series of cool, acrobatic spots, Adamle tried to tell a story about talking to former Olympic gymnast Bart Conner over the weekend. Tazz cut him off to ask if Conner is 80 years-old now. The frustrated Adamle pointed out that he's 40. Moments later, Bourne hit the Shooting Star Press for the win...

Powell's POV: Nice win for Bourne. That's his most meaningful victory to date. I don't mind when Tazz mocks Adamle for his mistakes, but let the man at least tell his story.

Backstage, Colin Delaney walked talking Teddy's assistant when Henry and Atlas interrupted. Atlas told Colin he didn't have to worry because they knew he had nothing to do with what happened earlier. Henry walked away, but it was too good to be true for Colin. Henry stormed back into the picture and choked Colin. He press slammed him onto a case... A graphic (no announcers) teased the Hardys vs. Miz and Morrison match... [C]

Highlights aired from Raw of the C.M. Punk vs. Kane match, along with the post-match altercation between Punk and Batista... The announcers ran through the Great American Bash pay-per-view lineup... Ring introductions took place for the Hardys vs. Miz and Morrison match.

Powell's POV: Some poor guy was caught on camera dancing like Jeff Hardy. Let's just say it didn't look nearly as cool as it does when Jeff does it. If that guy was one of my friends, I'd record the show on DVR and then have multiple DVDs made of that clip playing in a loop. Then I'd throw a party and play the DVDs on every television in my house. Oh, and I'd post the footage on Youtube. Does that make me a bad person?

[Q4] [C] 3. Matt and Jeff Hardy beat John Morrison and The Miz in a non-title match in 17:00. The match was joined in progress. I hate when they do that. Plenty of Hardy chants from the women and kids in the crowd. After some back and forth action, the show cut to commercial. [C] The tag champs worked over Jeff for a while until he made the hot tag to Matt.

[Overrun] The match really picked up down the stretch. Matt hit a crucifix powerbomb on Morrison for a nearfall. Miz ran in and was greeted with the Side Effect. Morrison recovered and performed Moonlight Drive on Matt. Jeff came off the top with a Swanton Bomb on Morrison and Matt scored the pin for his team...

Powell's POV: Fun match. I'm disappointed they didn't give at least one of these teams a chance to build up the match on the mic. It's like the ECW creative team forgets that Miz and Morrison can talk. There's no shame in losing to the Hardys and I'm fine with it if they come back to this feud, but I don't like the way they make the tag belts seem beneath the Hardys by not having them show any interest in the straps.
