Scott Stanford and Josh Matthews welcomed us to the show as Sheamus and Heath Slater made their entrances for the opening contest.

Slater brought a mic out with him and cut a quick promo about hoe he should be the one chasing Randy Orton for the World Heavyweight Championship. He put himself over as the One-Man Southern Rock Band.

1. Sheamus defeated Heath Slater in 5:52. Sheamus took control early and Slater slapped him across the face. This turned out to be a mistake as it just caused Sheamus to unload with clubbing blows to Slater's midsection and back.

Slater tried to get something going with a roll-up attempt only to eat a massive shoulder block from Sheamus. Sheamus went to the top rope but Slater cut him off, causing Sheamus to have a rough landing. Slater followed up immediately with a running dropkick to the prone Sheamus.

Sheamus spilled to the floor and Slater followed with a series of kicks to Sheamus' chest. Back in the ring, Slater locked in a rest hold and the crowd erupted for the Celtic warrior. Sheamus responded to their cheers by throwing off Slater.

Sheamus nailed his double axe-handle and hit a tilt-o-whirl powerslam on Slater. He wrapped Slater up in the ropes and hit his forearm clubs to Slater's chest. Sheamus set up for and missed the Brogue kick. Slater hit a hot shot and nailed Sheamus with a jumping neckbreaker.

Slater went to the top rope and dove at Sheamus only to meet a Brogue kick followed by the High Cross powerbomb from Sheamus. Sheamus covered Slater and got the 1-2-3.

Ryan's Rant: It's good to be back. Go see this match; it is easily the best I have seen from Slater. The man has his naysayers, but he just proved he can go in the ring, and he bumped like a champ for Sheamus.

2. Brodus Clay squashed Pete Gibson in 1:04. Brodus took control instantly with a body slam and a massive elbow drop. He nailed Gibson with a throwaway suplex and had the pin but he lifted his shoulders. Brodus followed up with a corner splash transitioned into the Fall of Humanity running cross body for the decisive pin.

After the match, Brodus stared into the crowd to some good heat, and the announcers put him over as the Mastodon of Mayhem… [C]

Ryan's Rant: I love the name for Brodus's finisher and his new nickname. It's nice to see WWE not waste any time in giving Brodus a bit of an identity. It helps him stand out among the Superstars regulars. I don't care how many times I see it; the Fall of Humanity looks vicious and unreal coming from big Brodus Clay.

Back from commercial, Jack Korpela and Matt Striker hyped the SummerSlam rematch between Sheamus and Mark Henry for Smackdown. Justin Gabriel made his entrance, quickly followed by JTG.

3. Justin Gabriel beat JTG in 6:10. The two worked some quick chain wrestling in the early going. I kid you not. JTG eventually gained the upper hand and beat Gabriel down with a series of elbows. JTG worked Gabriel in the corner with shoulder blocks but Gabriel quickly squirmed out and nailed JTG with an STO.

Gabriel went to the top rope much too early and paid for it. JTG cut him off and regained control of the match. JTG botched a very scary neckbreaker for a near fall. JTG settled into a rest hold that targeted Gabriel's neck.

Gabriel eventually battled out and floored JTG with a spinning back kick. JTG wasn't down for long, however, as he hit a belly-to back lifting neckbreaker on Gabriel. Gabriel kicked out and kicked JTG on the way up. Gabriel ascended the ropes and again JTG cut him off from victory. This time, however, Gabriel battled off JTG and hit a sunset powerbomb to leave JTG prone on the mat.

Gabriel quickly made his way back to the top rope, smiled to the crowd, and finally hit his 450 splash. Moments later, he had the pin and won the match... [C]

Ryan's Rant: JTG should never be allowed to work a neckbreaker again. He could have killed Gabriel with that terrible spot. Other than that, the match was good. It doesn't hold water to the match we saw from Sheamus and Slater, but Gabriel dragged a decent match out of JTG.

4. Daniel Bryan beat Drew McIntyre in 10:45. Drew pounced early on the smaller Bryan but Bryan turned the tables with superior wrestling. They exchanged control several times in the early going with McIntyre getting in some clubbing fists and Bryan getting in some kicks on McIntyre.

Drew went to the outside to create some distance and Bryan followed and beat down McIntyre. In the ring, Bryan locked in a leglock on Drew but quickly let him go. Drew made him pay for his mercy by throwing Bryan face-first into the turnbuckle as the show went to break… [C]

Back from commercial, Drew had Bryan locked in a rest hold. Bryan tried to battle back only to end up getting choked on the ropes. Drew sent Bryan back into the corner and nailed Bryan with a huge clothesline. Drew followed up with another rest hold.

The crowd cheered for Bryan, who battled out and rolled Drew up for a near fall before eating a back elbow from Drew. Bryan finally battled back with a series of European uppercuts and a flying clothesline. Bryan hit a huge German suplex and shook his fist to get the crowd pumped before he hit a running dropkick on Drew.

Bryan blasted a prone Drew with kicks but drew managed to floor Bryan and set up for a powerbomb. Bryan slipped through, however, and knocked McIntyre to the floor. Bryan quickly followed with a suicide dive. Bryan went for his missile dropkick but Drew jumped on the turnbuckle Angle-style and hit an awesome snap superplex on Bryan for a near fall.

Drew followed up with a clothesline but Bryan floated over McIntyre's shoulders and locked in his Guillotine choke to get the submission win.

Ryan's Rant: Wow, these two can work well together. Drew continues to show such a fire in the ring that I wonder why they can't retool his character and let him shine on one of the main rosters. The snap superplex was sick and Bryan's Guillotine looked the most convincing it has since he started using it as a finisher.

What a way to come back from vacation. We had an appearance from Sheamus and Daniel Bryan on Superstars, and we got plenty of quality wrestling throughout, with no Raw Rebound or Divas match filler. Brodus Clay got a bit of an identity this week, and Gabriel managed to get a decent match out of JTG. I would definitely recommend going out of your way to see this edition of WWE Superstars. Thanks for following along, and I will see you all here next week.
