7/14 Kester's WWE Superstars Review: Zack Ryder vs. Santino Marella, The Usos take on the tag champs, and Wade Barrett vs. Trent Barreta
Jul 14, 2011 - 07:25 PM

WWE Superstars on WWE.com
Taped earlier in Uncasville, Conn. and Boston, Mass.

1. Zack Ryder defeated Santino Marella in 2:58. Zack had on a new pair of trunks. Santino controlled the early going with his comedy offense.

Ryder gained control with a hangman's neckbreaker and went for and missed the Broski Boot. Santino hit his comedy set again and had trouble getting to the top rope. This led to a missed headbutt from the top. Ryder quickly hit the Rough Ryder for the win... [C]

Ryan's Rant: Absolute throwaway match but it was nice to see Ryder get some love from the live crowd. No one seemed to care about anything Santino did, including this viewer.

2. Wade Barrett beat Trent Barreta in 3:15. Barreta began the match by pouncing on Barrett. His onslaught did not last long, however, as Barrett quickly took control of the smaller guy. Barreta tried to come back several times but never really got any momentum before Barrett knocked him down.

Barrett captured Barreta off of a springboard attempt, hit Wasteland, and got the clean pin… [C]

Ryan's Rant: I can't count the number of times I tried typing one guys name and ended up typing the others'. Thanks whoever decided to put these two in a match. Barreta it some impressive spots in this match, the most notable being a corkscrew moonsault kick reminiscent of Jeff Hardy's Whisper in the Wind. Other than that, this was a squash match, which has no business being on Superstars. Squashes are for making one guy looks brutal, but you actually need people to see it for the squash to matter.

The Usos performed another Haka before their match. I love these, as did the live crowd.

3. The Uso Brothers defeated Michael McGillicutty and David Otunga in 6:28 in a non-title match. Jey and Otunga started the match. Jimmy quickly tagged in and Otunga tagged in McGillicutty. The heels took over the match and started to pick Jimmy apart... [C]

Back from the commercial, the heels continued to tear apart Jimmy Uso. Eventually, Jimmy hit Otunga with a Samoan drop and got the hot tag to Jimmy. Jimmy tore McGillicutty apart and nailed him with the wrecking ball. Jimmy tagged Jey back into the match to hit the Samoan Slash for the win… [C]

Ryan's Rant: Impressive work from everyone involved not named Otunga. The heels got in a ton of offense in this one so they lost without looking like complete twits. WWE needs to put the belts around the Usos quick as every single time they do their Haka they whip the crowd into a frenzy. It doesn't hurt that their move sets are a showcase of moves made famous by great Samoans throughout wrestling's history.

4. Beth Phoenix beat Maryse in 4:09. Maryse kicked off the match throwing her jacket at Beth. Beth responded with a whirly-bird followed with a clothesline.

Maryse came back with a chop block and a kick to Beth's skull. Maryse removed Beth's headband and put it on before mocking Beth's Phoenix symbol. The headband looks better on Maryse.

Beth eventually came back and just destroyed Maryse. She nailed her with a slingshot suplex quickly followed by the Glam Slam for the win… [C]

The remainder of the show consisted of a replay of the entire final segment from Raw.

Ryan's Rant: I question the judgment of having the Divas match on last, but what can you do? Another worthless match from the Divas and neither of these women were given enough time to really do anything in the match before it was over. I am glad that WWE aired the lengthy segment last as it doesn’t make viewers who have already seen raw check out before all the matches have concluded.

Overall, this show was just another Superstars with nothing noteworthy but nothing overtly terrible.
