6/10 Shore's WWE Smackdown Live Coverage: Sin Cara vs. Ted DiBiase, Jinder Mahal, and how will Randy Orton respond to the attack from Christian?
Jun 10, 2011 - 07:00 PM

By Chris Shore

Smackdown on SyFy
Taped on 6/7/11 in Roanoke, Va.

Shore's Slant: As it is officially summer in the South, we are having crazy storms. If I suddenly disappear, it means I have lost power for the third time today.

[Q1] A video recapped Christian hitting Orton with the belt last week in standard WWE video awesomeness…Christian's music hit and he came to the ring as Josh Matthews, Michael Cole and Booker T welcomed us to Smackdown. Christian cut a promo and said he wasn't sure what his reaction was going to be.

He said that if you cheered, you figured out he was screwed out of his title just five days after winning it. He said looking at the crowd, he could tell most of them just didn't get it. He said that's why he was done with his so called peeps. He said he never wanted to talk to any of them ever again, and a "You suck," chant broke out.

He said he would talk to one person and asked Cole to come to the ring. Cole smiled like it was his birthday and climbed in the ring. Christian pled his case for being screwed to Cole and then said the people who blew Twitter up because he lost the title were now blowing Twitter up after he hit Orton in the face last week.

He said he didn't understand a lot of things, like how Teddy Long runs his show. He said he couldn't understand why Long polled the audience because the audience was stupid. He said it was disrespectful, and he had been disrespected the most by Randy Orton.

He said if Orton had any class he never would have accepted the title match after Christian had been in a ladder match only five days earlier. He said since he wasn't talking to the crowd, he needed Cole to ask the people if Christian deserved to be Champion.

Cole did his "attention" bit and asked the crowd. They gave him decent heat, but not as much as I would have hoped. Christian said that proved they were clueless and said he would be the champion again. He thanked Cole for the talk and left the ring…Backstage, the Corre was shown heading to the ring…[C]

Shore's Slant: Not a great promo from Christian. It wasn't all that bad, but his heel turn should have meant more to the crowd. He's kind of cheesing it up a little too, which doesn't help. It's a serviceable promo, and moved the story forward, but it just didn't impress me like everything else on this feud has.

Back from commercial, The Corre made their ring entrance as the announce team talked about Christian. Ezekiel Jackson was out next with The Usos to a great pop. The pop was for Zeke, not the Usos…

[Q2] 1. Ezekiel Jackson and The Usos defeated The Corre at 11:49. Zeke and Slater started. Zeke bumped Slater around and tagged in Jimmy. Jimmy and Jay worked tag team moves on Slater and Gabriel until Jat missed a corner splash. Gabriel put Jay in the Corre corner and Slater dumped him to the floor. Slater and Barrett worked Jay on the floor…[C]

Back from commercial, Barrett worked over Jay. Jay finally made the hot tag to Zeke and Barrett quickly tagged Gabriel. Barrett started to leave and Slater tracked him down. Slater asked him what he was doing and Barrett blew him off. Slater jumped back in the ring to help Gabriel, but he ate a double superkick from the Usos. Zeke put Gabriel in the torture rack for the submission win…

[Q3] Backstage, Teddy Long was placing bets on the phone. Sheamus walked up and Long pretended he was on the phone with his wife. He hung up and Sheamus demanded a match against Christian. Teddy said no. Sheamus yelled about Christian screwing him. He said he wasn't asking, he was demanding. Teddy said he wouldn't give him the match, but he would put him in a no-DQ match with Orton. Sheamus liked that idea and left…

Shore's Slant: The Corre stuff could not get any more boring. Fortunately I missed most of this match due to a power outage. I'm using YouTube to get caught up so bear with me.

Backstage, Slater and Gabriel confronted Barrett about what happened. Barrett said they didn't have to defend the title against Zeke, but it didn’t matter because that move helped them. Gabriel said it only helped Barrett. Barrett said they would have been nothing without him. Slater said they were going to find out because Corre was over…

Shore's Slant: Roughly 53 weeks after debuting as Nexus and having the hottest act in all of WWE, the base group finally falls apart with a whimper. Kind of sad when you think about it.

2. Jinder Mahal squashed Trent Baretta ay 1:32. Mahal went for a back suplex, but Baretta flipped through and hit an enziguri. Baretta hit some quick offense and climbed to the top. Khali climbed the steps to distract Baretta and Mahal slammed him off the top. He followed with his full-nelson slam for the win. Post-match, Khali gave Baretta the vice grips to the head…

Backstage, Jack Korpela tried to interview AJ. Tamina walked up and stuffed a box in her hands. AJ opened it and found cheese. Tamina and Rosa said it was for the mousy girl. AJ said, "LayCool called. They want their gimmick back."

Shore's Slant: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Tamina got in her face and Natalya walked up. They all stared down into the break…[C]

Shore's Slant: The gimmick line legit cracked me up. Jinder looks like he can wrestle. I can't wait to see what he can do in a long match to know for sure.

[Q4] 3. AJ defeated Tamina in 2:13. AJ got in a few shots, but Tamina powered back and controlled the majority of the match. AJ hit a back elbow in the corner and tried for a splash from the top. Tamina caught her and stared at Natty. When she went for a Samoan Drop, AJ hit an elbow and rolled up for the victory…Rand Orton was shown walking backstage…[C]

Shore's Slant: I think AJ is the cutest thing I have ever seen, and I would love to corrupt her and all, but I'm not impressed with her or Tamina in the ring. Or this whole story, truth be told.

The video that aired to start the show played again. Randy Orton's music hit and he made his entrance to a great pop. Orton took a mic and said he heard Christian was talking junk before he got there. He challenged Christian to come say it to his face.

Christian appeared on the big screen and Christian mocked Teddy Long before saying he wasn't coming out. Orton said he wanted to get his hands on Christian and Christian said he wanted one more match for the World Title. Orton said he didn't care what Christian wanted.

Christian said Orton should because he saved Orton from losing the belt last week and Orton owed him. He said he saved Orton because he knew he could beat him. Orton told him to come to the ring and they would do it. Christian said they were doing things his way now and he wanted to go at Capitol Punishment. Orton said that was fine because it didn't matter where, he would win like he always does.

[Q5] Christian got in a car and drove away as Orton posed with the belt in the ring…Backstage, Cody and Ted were looking at a cellphone and Cody said, "How can he call himself Weiner?" Cody said he was going to be in charge tonight and Ted said it wasn't long ago they were equals. He called Cody nuts and Cody made some guy put a bag on his (the guy, not Ted's) head. He said he might be nuts, but he might be genius too and walked off…[C]

Shore's Slant: That was much better from Christian. I liked that a lot more than the opening promo. I hate they only have a week to setup the match, but it should still be fun to watch. And I cannot put into words how over Randy Orton is right now. Wow.

4. Sin Cara defeated Ted DiBiase (w/Cody Rhodes) by disqualification at 1:57. The ring got the Sin Cara lighting gimmick and Cody Rhodes and his bag men accompanied Ted to the ring. Sin Cara attacked immediately and ran a ton of offense on Ted. Sin Cara went for a springboard move, but Cody grabbed his feet causing the DQ. Both men attacked Sin Cara, and Daniel Bryan made the save. Teddy Long came out and booked the four men in a tag match…[C]

Shore's Slant: Damn, you know this is going to be a short match.

5. Sin Cara and Daniel Bryan defeated Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase in 9:25. Back from commercial, Bryan worked on DiBiase. DiBiase made a tag and Cody whipped Bryan to his own corner. Bryan got a blind tag and Sin Cara hit a springboard missile dropkick on Cody. Cody came right back and drove Sin Cara into the post, shoulder first. Rhodes and DiBiase worked in and out on Sin Cara with several double team moves.

[Q6] Sin Cara hit an enziguri on Cody and both men made hot tags. Bryan cleaned house and kicked Cody to the floor. Sin Cara hit a dive on Cody and Bryan jumped off the second rope to DiBiase. Bryan hooked a front face lock with leg scissor and then worked it into the LaBell lock for the submission victory…

Backstage, Johnny Curtis cut a promo. He said he wasn't bitter about only being seen twice since winning NXT. There was a potato chip on his shoulder. He ate the chip and then mugged for the camera…The announce team put over Andy winning Tough Enough and then did the stupid Capitol Punishment dream sequence…

[Q7] Matt Striker interviewed Orton backstage and asked him if he could concentrate in his current mental state. Orton said Sheamus was a good brawler, but reminded us he has anger management issues. He said a no DQ match was the best therapy for him…Sheamus made his ring entrance…[C]

Shore's Slant: Well, we got a much longer match than I expected, and it was pretty good. It wasn't PPV good, but a solid TV match. And what in the blue hell is Johnny Curtis doing? So his gimmick is figures of speech? Wow, that's awful nuanced for the average WWE fan.

6. Sheamus defeated Randy Orton in a No Disqualification match at . Sheamus hit some strikes, but Orton hit a Thesz press and took control. He dumped Sheamus to the floor and worked him all over the ringside area. He rolled Sheamus back in the ring and missed a knee drop.

Sheamus choke Orton on the ropes and then hit a knee lift. Sheamus started to go for his slingshot shoulder tackle, but Orton hit a kick to spill Sheamus to the floor again. He tried to stomp Sheamus's head on the stairs, but Sheamus slipped out and dropped Orton face first on the stairs…[C]

[Q8] Back from commercial, Sheamus worked a rest hold on Orton. Sheamus slammed him and hit his slingshot shoulder tackle for a near fall. Sheamus tried for a back suplex, but Orton slipped out and hit a few strikes. Then Sheamus punched back. Then Orton punched back again and they spilled to the floor. They brawled on the floor until Sheamus threw Orton into the stairs.

Sheamus slammed the stairs on Orton's back and then rolled him in the ring. He set the lower half of the stairs in the ring and stalked Orton. Orton popped up and hit his backbreaker and dragged the stairs to the middle of the ring. Sheamus recovered and tried to slam Orton on the stairs, but Orton reversed and slammed Sheamus in what might have been a blown spot for a great near fall.

Sheamus came right back and hit the Irish Curse for two. Sheamus got a kendo stick from under the ring and beat the hell out of Orton with it. He covered, and Orton barely beat the count in a great near fall. Sheamus went for the Brogue Kick and missed. His foot got tied up in the ropes, and Orton returned the beating with the Kendo stick.

Sheamus finally freed himself, but Orton hit the rope DDT and setup for the RKO. Christian ran in from nowhere and hooked for the Kill Switch. Orton pushed off and tried for an RKO on Christian. Christian pushed away and slid to the floor. Sheamus hit a double axe handle for a near fall and then lifted for the High Cross.

Orton slid out, ducked a Brogue Kick, and hit an RKO. Christian hit the ring immediately and nailed Orton with the belt. Sheamus covered for the win, but left the ring right after the victory and Christian posed over the fallen Orton to end the show…

Shore's Slant: What a great main event. That was seriously PPV worthy. The action was brutal, as a no DQ match should be. The Christian run in was no surprise. They have to make him do a lot of heel things so fans really buy into the turn. I would always prefer a clean finish, but this made sense. I'll have more to say tomorrow on the hitlist and the All Access Smackdown audio review. Thanks for reading and I'll see you then.
