6/9 Kester's WWE Superstars Review: A less than lackluster show featuring Tyson Kidd's latest tryout for a manager, Mark Henry cutting a promo, Chris Masters vs. JTG, and a Divas tag match

WWE Superstars on WWE.com
Taped earlier in Roanoke and Richmond, Va.

Scott Stanford and Josh Matthews welcomed us to the how as JTG and Chris Masters made their way to the ring.

1. Chris Masters beat JTG in 4:38. The announcers spent the first few minutes talking about how these two could move on to "bigger and better things" with a win. Way to make this show feel special guys.

Masters spent most of the match manhandling JTG with a series of shoulder blocks and power moves. Eventually, JTG got a head of steam and went for the mug shot and missed which led to Masters slapping on the Masterlock for the victory.

The announcers hyped the main event of Yoshi Tatsu vs. Tyson Kidd with a mystery manager… [C]

Ryan's Rant: That was a slow and plodding math that was instantly forgettable. JTG has a newer look but no amount of wardrobe in the world could make his ring skills look decent. The man botches more moves than the entire cast of Tough Enough combined, and it's a wonder he hasn't hurt anyone yet. Chris Masters has some talent, but he has a finisher that's lost its luster and he just doesn't seem to care anymore and only half of his heart seems to be in his work. I can't blame him, though because I'd wrestle the same way if I was reduced to wrestling on a show that not even the announcers can put over as relevant.

2. Melina and Maryse beat Eve and Gail Kim in 3:44. Eve and Maryse started with Eve taking the early advantage. She hit R-Truth's finisher but Maryse kicked out at one.

Maryse battled back and tagged in Melina. The heels worked over Eve with dirty tag work for a few minutes. Melina worked a cross-arm camel clutch on Eve in a cool spot. Eve got a very lackluster hot tag to Gail Kim who quickly demolished Melina. Maryse tried to interfere but Eve jumped on top of her. Gail and Melina nettled back and forth trying to hit their respective finishers until Melina was finally able o connect with the Sunset Split for the pin… [C]

Ryan's Rant: It's not that often that WWE blows a hot tag spot, but that was absolutely terrible. Gail managed to make up for it by hitting like six high impact moves in under a minute but Eve literally just randomly fell down and crawled over to Gail without any sense of suspense.

Mark Henry was in the ring waiting for his opponent, Johnny Curtis, but Curtis refused to come out from the back. Matt Striker got into the ring and asked him why he thinks his opponents are afraid to face him. Mark cut a promo on Jack Korpela of all people and talked about how no one wants anything to do with him because he breaks people in half. He said if someone comes out to face him, like his music says, "Somebody's gonna get their ass kicked." Mark then went to ringside to show the steel steps who's boss.

Ryan's Rant: Well, that was a waste of time. That whole segment, steel step bullying excluded, would have been better served on Smackdown if you actually want this guy looking like a threat. That and we need someone other than Johnny Curtis to give this idea credibility.

Vicki Guererro came out cutting a promo putting herself over as someone who makes or breaks careers of young studs in the WWE. She then introduced Tyson Kidd, and I about laughed my head off.

3.Yoshi Tatsu beat Tyson Kidd (w/Vickie Guerrero) in 11:35. Rapid-fire chain wrestling to start the match. Tyson went to the ropes several times to speak with Vickie. Tatsu got a near fall with a great roll up from the second rope. Tyson took it to Tatsu afterwards and worked Tatsu over with kicks and rest holds.

Tatsu battled back and hit a Northern Lights suplex and a spinning heel kick. Tyson hit a dragon whip with Tatsu's legs between the ropes and Tatsu fell to ringside for the break… [C]

Back from the break, Tyson was targeting the legs of Tatsu with kicks and an Indian deathlock. Tyson dropped some elbows on Tatsu's knee and went right into another series of rest holds. Tatsu finally reversed a hold and sent Kidd to the floor. Tyson tried a sunset flip back in the ring and Tatsu rolled through and delivered a shining wizard.

The pace picked up and the two exchanged impact maneuvers and near falls. Tatsu tried to go to the top but his leg gave out. He fell to the mat and Tyson locked on an inverted figure four leglock, but Tatsu made the ropes. Tyson went for the fishermen's neckbreaker but Tatsu reversed and nailed Tyson with a Buzzsaw kick for the 1-2-3.

Ryan's Rant: Tyson Kidd is terrible. He relies way too much on rest holds to the point that when he goes for a submission move that the crowd is supposed to take seriously, they don't because the last fifteen didn't get the win for him. It also bothers me to no end that he has such a goofy haircut yet his face looks so old. Tatsu, in the same vein, has had better nights, but he didn't do anything extraordinary tonight to contribute to this match.

I do like Tyson using an inverted figure-four, though, and I think it would be wise for him to distance himself from the sharpshooter, as he didn't even attempt one here. Tyson Kidd is no Bret hart, and every time he does that move he will get compared to him, and that's the type of thing that will keep Tyson on Superstars for life.

Overall, this edition of Superstars was dreadful. The first match was worthless, the second featured a botch that killed the momentum of the match, Mark Henry was filler on an online show, and the main event had far too many slow points to keep me interested. Thank you all for following along and I'll see you here next week. Come back later on tonight for my Live Coverage of TNA Impact.
