5/24 Shore's WWE NXT Live Coverage: Season five rolls on with only five rookies remaining
May 24, 2011 - 09:00 PM

By Chris Shore

WWE NXT on WWE.com
Aired Live from Spokane, Wash.

The opening video aired and Todd Grisham and William Regal checked in on commentary and hyped Titus O'Neill vs. Darren Young in a no disqualification match for later…Byron Saxton made his ring entrance and took a mic for a promo.

The Seattle crowd booed and Saxton said he had a realization that he doesn't need his pro. He said the crowd identified with him, but he couldn't identify with a guy who held him back because of his infatuation with a Diva. He said he was saying on television right now that he was emancipating himself from his pro.

He said from now on, people would address him as "Big League" Byron Saxton. Maryse's music hit and she came out and said she was a big deal, she was the host. She said he was a rookie and didn't make the rules and his job was to listen.

Maryse booked Yoshi Tatsu and Byron Saxton (who reminded her it was Big League but she told him to shut up) vs. Tyson Kidd and Lucky Cannon. She said next week was the next elimination and wished Saxton luck. Cannon got a kiss from Maryse during his entrance while Maryse gave Tatsu the hand…

1. Tyson Kidd and Lucky Cannon defeated Yoshi Tatsu and Byron Saxton at 8:54. Yoshi and Cannon started. The heels took quick control and dumped Yoshi to the floor. Yoshi sold as Saxton looked disgusted on the apron…[C]

Back from commercial, the heels continued to work on Tatsu, and specifically his arm. The crowd fell asleep but cheered a little for Yoshi when he fought back. Yoshi refused to tag Saxton when he had a couple of chances, but he finally went for the hot tag.

Saxton pulled his hand away at the last second to several boos. Kidd got the hot tag and attacked from behind, but Tatsu took him and Cannon out. Saxton tagged himself in at that point and argued with Yoshi. Yoshi shoved him down and Kidd slapped on the Sharpshooter.

Saxton begged for help and Yoshi said no. Saxton tagged out. Post-match they argued and Saxton pie faced Yoshi. Yoshi hit the roundhouse kick to leave Saxton laid out…

Shore’s Slant: Good opening promo from Saxton, and a surprisingly long match for NXT. I don't think it changed next week's elimination at all as I fully expect Conor O'Brian to go home. But there was some good work here.

The Raw Rebound was the Nexus winning the tag titles and Big Show getting hit by the car. Grisham said there would be an update on Show on Smackdown…The announce team setup a video that recapped what happened with Hornswoggle, Chavo, O'Neill and Young last week…

Matt Striker interviewed Chavo and Young backstage. Striker called what they did despicable, Young called it genius. Chavo said he told Young to trust him and it paid off. He said trust him again tonight and Young would win for the third week in a row…JTG made his ring entrance…[C]

Shore’s Slant: The stuff with Chavo and Young has been decent, but this just didn't work for me. It just seemed flat and forced. And I had hoped, like Regal, we were done with JTG. No such luck.

2. Conor O'Brian (w/Vladimir Kozlov) defeated JTG at 3:53. Regal spent the whole match shitting on JTG, which is my favorite part of the show. JTG worked as the heel, but no one really cared. JTG showed off to Regal after hitting the Mug Shot. When he went for the pin, O'Brian hooked an inside cradle for the win. Post-match, Conor hugged Kozlov and JTG hit a drop kick on them and beat up Conor. Kozlov crawled in the ring and head-butted JTG out of the ring…

Backstage, Titus looked for Hornswoggle. He found him hiding in a gym bag and told him to lie low and watch what he did to Young tonight on a nearby TV…[C]

Shore’s Slant: This show is just like last week. It has gone on too long and nobody cares anymore. I'm trying, but I seem unable to find any emotion in what we are seeing.

3. Titus O'Neill defeated Darren Young (w/Chavo Guerrero) in a no disqualification match at 8:20. Titus beat the hell out of Young and kept screaming at him, "You wanna be a bully?" He spilled Young to the floor and followed. Chavo didn't touch him on the way out, but he did get a cheap shot in after Titus slammed Young against the announce table a few times…[C]

Back from commercial, Hornswoggle looked worried as Young continued his assault on Titus. Chavo kicked Titus again, but they made the ref look away before. Isn't it no DQ? Titus came powering back and hit a shoulder breaker on Young. He covered, but Chavo broke the count and stomped on Titus.

Chavo went to the floor and got a chain. He wrapped it around his hand and Hornswoggle was shown in the back. He rubbed eye black on and put on a head band. He ran to the ring while Chavo hit Titus with the chain.

Hornswoggle caused the distraction that allowed Titus to recover. He used Horny as a battering ram to send Chavo out of the ring and knock Young down. Titus hit Clash of Titus on Young and then set him up for a tadpole splash from Horny. Titus covered for the pinfall victory…

I hate when no DQ matches are setup that way to get two more people involved. It just makes the stipulation lame. And I'm so sick of watching these guys work. Give me something fresh WWE. I'll have more to say tomorrow on the hitlist. Thanks for treading and I will see you then.
