2/3 Dunn's WWE Superstars Live Coverage: Tyler Reks and Curt Hawkins vs. JTG and Trent Barreta, Yoshi Tatsu and David Hart Smith vs. Zack Ryder and Primo, and Melina vs. Tamina
Feb 3, 2011 - 07:00 PM

By Adam Dunn

WWE Superstars on WGN America
Taped in Providence, RI and Long Island, NY

[Q1] The opening video aired, followed by pyro. Scott Stanford and Josh Matthews welcomed us to the show and hyped the main event. Zack Ryder and Primo made their way out.

Ryder got on the mic and talked about how hot that Primo and him were. Both men are wearing matching sunglasses by the way. Primo bragged about they are the only undefeated tag team in the WWE. Primo finished by saying nothing would stop them from going to Wrestlemania. Tatsu and Smith then came to the ring.

1.Yoshi Tatsu and David Hart Smith defeated Zack Ryder and Primo at 11:34. Tatsu and Primo started things out. Primo did some showboating with his mat wrestling, but Tatsu took control with an arm lock, and then a side head lock. Stanford talked about how Ryder's new shirt was a best seller. Matthews doubted it.

Smith tagged in and hit a snap slam off the ropes for near fall. Ryder got the tag and was hit with an arm drag. Ryder's new outfit is apparently made from the excess clothing of the Nasty Boys. Tatsu checked in and so did Primo. Both traded awful sounding chops, drawing a reaction from the crowd.

At 3:30 Primo hit a distracted Tatsu with a suplex over the top. Ryder got a cheap hit in on Tatsu with the referee distracted. [C]

Back at 7:00, Primo had a rear chin lock on Tatsu. Tatsu fought out with some kicks and just missed a tag on Smith. Primo dragged him to the corner and tagged in Ryder. Ryder hit the Rude Awakening to a near fall. He should have been out!

Ryder locked in a side head lock and countered a suplex into a slam. Primo tagged in and hit a good looking dropkick for another near fall. Stanford and Matthews continued to sing the praises of Primo/Ryder. Primo missed a dropkick in the corner and Primo tagged in Smith, who was a house of fire.

[Q2] Smith hit a Hogan leg drop on Ryder. And then followed with a classic stall suplex into a jackhammer. Tatsu took Primo to the outside. Tatsu then tagged in and hit a roundhouse on Ryder. Tatsu missed a kick to the head, but spun around and connected with a second try on Ryder for the win...The Chaperone trailer aired...A shot of Melina posing for cameras backstage, as the announcers hyped the divas match next. [C]

Dunn's Decision: The wrong team won here. There's so much more money to be made in the ego's of Primo and Ryder. But overall, this was a fun match. I love watching Smith's offense, as he seems very comfortable as the hot tag. Tatsu and Primo work well together in this environment. Also, how crazy racist is Tatsu's music? Talk about stereotyping to the extreme.

Back from the break, Melina's music hit. Her heel character's facial expressions are really weird looking. Tamina followed her out. Melina laughed in the corner at Tamina's outfit. It's pretty awful.

2. Melina defeated Tamina at 4:54. Melina hid in the ropes, trying to escape Tamina, but to no avail. Tamina threw Melina around the ring and hit a nice looking body slam. Melina continued to scream after every single move. Melina faked a broken nose in the corner and kicked Tamina in the face.

Stanford talked about Jimmy Snuka diving off the cage at the Garden and Matthews questioned why he was talking about something from 30 years ago. Melina applied an abdominal strech in the middle of the ring, but Tamina countered with a backbreaker. Melina ran into a clothesline and a bad looking drop kick.

Tamina hit a flap jack for a near fall at 4:00. Tamina missed a splash in the corner and Melina hit a snap mare on the ropes for a near fall. Melina hit the Sunset Split, as Stanford called it, for the win...The tag team main event was hyped. [C]

Dunn's Decision: Meh. Tamina is still green in the ring. Melina carried most of this. But I guess this is just filler for Melina now that she's once again out of the title picture.

[Q3] An Alberto Del Rio hype video aired...Back in the arena, Jack Korpela and Matt Striker took over announcing...The Raw recap aired...JTG's music hit and him and Trent Barreta made their way out. [C]

[Q4] The 2-21-11 video aired. Please be Sting, just this once WWE...Back in the ring, JTG and Barreta were wearing nearly identical pants. Reks and Hawkins were out next.

3. Tyler Reks and Curt Hawkins defeated JTG and Trent Barreta at 13:14. Hawkins and Barreta felt each other to start things. Apparently they were both best friends at one point according to Korpela. A faint "Let's go Hawkins!" chant can be heard. Barreta did some leaping over Hawkins then hit a high impact arm drag. JTG tagged in and hit a drop kick. He only got enough hang time to kick Hawkins in the hips.

Reks tagged in and worked over JTG. He chucked JTG into the ring ropes then hit a strong shoulder block. Hawkins made the tag and JTG hit a running kick to the face for a near fall. Korpela argued that Striker had never actually wrestled at Wrestlemania. Stiker then immediately corrected him. Can they not mention ECW now?

Meanwhile, Reks distracted JTG and Hawkins knocked JTG to the outside. [C]

Back at 7:12, Reks was destroying JTG. Reks took him to the ground with a shot to the chest for a near fall. Reks threw JTG sternum first into the corner and then tagged in Hawkins. Hawkins applied a rear choke hold that JTG fought out of, but Hawkins countered him into a body slam. Reks tagged in.

Reks hit some hard looking shots to JTG and applied an STF minus the leg hold. Hawkins reentered the match and worked over JTG with some kicks. Striker made a joke about Korpela being "premature" in certain things he does. That's not PG. JTG hit a flap jack on Hawkins.

JTG finally tagged in Barreta how took out Reks on the apron and hit a running clothesline on Hawkins. Barreta hit a springboard dropkick on Reks and Hawkins attacked Barreta from behind. Hawkins hit the Heat Seeking Elbow from the top on Barreta for the win.

After the match, Reks attacked Hawkins and hit the Burning Hammer.

Dunn's Decision: An okay match. JTG/Barreta is a bad choice for a tag team. Neither are particularly good in the ring and it showed. Though Barreta's springboard dropkick was great looking. Reks is a beast and came off as one here, especially after the match. Also, Reks shouldn't talk, ever. It doesn't fit his character.
