By Marv Hermanstyne

WWE Smackdown on Syfy
Taped in Cincinnati, OH

[Q1] The show began with all the members of the Corre introducing themselves and recap of all the events that occurred last week. There was a clock showing the timeline of events in which everything occurred. The show began with Vickie Guerrero already in the ring getting her heel heat. Vickie said that Teddy Long will not be there tonight and she is the acting GM of SD.

She wished Long the best in a speedy recovery and Randy Orton came out to a mega pop from the crowd....

Mind of Marv: Orton needs to come to SD via the draft...he is over as hell with the crowd!

Vickie did the Excuse Me bit again and asked why was Orton out there. Orton told her to relax and she said that he was appreciated for being invited to SD. He said he doesn’t know her well and she has to excuse him for what he will do to her boyfriend and the Miz. Orton grabbed Vickie and said nice hair. Orton said there is no excuse and Vickie looked disgusted. Dolph came out with a leather hoodie and grabbed a mic.

Dolph defended Vickie and said that he will be world champ on Sunday. He said that he will never be disrespected him or his girlfriend. He demanded respect and Randy said around here, he gotta earn respect and he made Dolph eat a RKO...

Mind of Marv: Orton is over as hell a babyface, but I can see the discomfort cutting promos. Orton can really give the SD brand some much needed life (via the draft because they are pretty shorthanded on babyface talent. Overall, good start to the show...

The Champions and Challengers match is the main event...[C]

[Q2] LayCool made their entrance and Kaitlyn and Kelly Kelly attacked LayCool from behind....

Mind of Marv: I love Layla, but WTF was she wearing tonight?? I went colorblind with the horrible outfit...

1. LayCool defeated Kaitlyn and Kelly Kelly in :40. Kaitlyn and McCool started the match and Kaitlyn hit some early offense for a one count. McCool ended the misery with a big boot to Kaitlyn after distraction from Layla...[C]

Mind of Marv: Wow....40 seconds of pure adulterated bullshit.

Kelly Kelly remained ringside by the announcers table...

2. Drew McIntyre defeated JTG in 4:40. JTG got some quick jabs in and hit a dropkick to Drew. Drew hit a clothesline and slammed JTG’s head into the ringsteps. Drew hit two neckbreakers for a nearfall. JTG hit some punches but Drew continued with attack on JTG in the corner. Drew hit a nice standing dropkick for a nearfall. Drew applied an armbar to weaken JTG and JTG rolled up Drew for a nearfall.

[Q3] Drew applied another armbar and went for another neckbreaker but JTG countered with a rollup for a nearfall. JTG went for a backslide but Drew countered into the Future Shock for the win...

Post match, Kelly got in the ring and Drew walked away. The Champions and Challengers main event is still to come...[C]

Mind of Marv: This was an average match. This match is usually regulated to Adam Dunn and the three people that watches Superstars, but the crowd is hot so is was reasonable for the time being. I still think this storyline sucks between McIntyre and K2 because it does nothing for me...

Highlights of Rey Mysterio busting up Cody Rhodes face last week and Cody did an interview without the camera looking at his face. Cody whined about his face being bashed in and he will need surgery. Cody said that he cannot be in the Rumble and his dreams was shattered for not being at Mania. He said that he was the most handsome man and his looks defined him. He got all low self-esteem and was putting me to sleep...

Mind of Marv: People like this gimmick, I loathe this gimmick. Cody will be in the Rumble....as a surprise entrant with some kind of mask.

He didn’t know what to do and no one can decide his life. He said a kid told him that he wasn’t dashing anymore and he said the kid is right. Jack Korpela interviewed Edge. Edge talked about what the Corre did to him. He ripped into the Corre and said that they should sleep with one eye open. He talked about Rated RKO reuniting and them facing The Miz and Dolph Ziggler. Edge said that he will tear Dolph Ziggler in half...

Mind of Marv: Short and effective promo by Edge...

Alberto Del Rio got in his car after to talking to the “Stalker” Michael Tarver...[C]

[Q4] 3. Kofi Kingston won a battle royal exhibition. Del Rio came out in a Mercedes convertible and introduced himself. He said tonight, his destiny is to win the Rumble and he will prove it. He said its him vs 39 other guys and he will have an exhibition tonight. Some jobber named Seth Allen came out and got the hell beaten out of him by Del Rio. Del Rio tossed him out in 15 seconds. Another jobber name Mike Stevens got beat on and thrown out. Kane came out and got a big pop from the crowd...

Kane hit an uppercut to Del Rio and Del Rio hit a sick ass kick to Kane. Kofi Kingston was the next gy to come out and he eliminated both men...

Rey Mysterio came out to even the score but Vickie came out and made a tag team match amongst all four men. Kane and Del Rio vs Kofi and Rey is next...[C]

Mind of Marv: Kofi is a darkhorse to win this match and I will explain further when I have my prediction column up this weekend...

4. Rey Mysterio and Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston defeated Kane and Alberto Del Rio in 15:35. Kane and Kofi started the matchup. Kane hit an uppercut to Kofi and Kofi countered with a low droplick and big boot. The heels worked on Kofi and Del Rio hit a drop kick to Kofi’s head for a nearfall. Kofi tagged in Rey and the babyfaces hit a nice set of offense and Rey covered Del Rio for a nearfall. Rey missed a splash on Del Rio and Kane was tagged in. Rey kicked Kane’s knees and setup for the 619 but Kane moved. Rey kicked Kane and Del Rio started to question Kane. Kofi and Rey hit the heels outside of the ring.

[Q5] Del Rio pushed Kofi off the ropes and clotheslined him. Del Rio hit a bulldog to Kofi for a nearfall. Kane tagged back in with punches and a scoop slam for a nearfall. Kane hit a sidewalk slam to Kofi for a nearfall. The heels took turns working on Kofi’s leg. Del Rio hit a fallaway slam to Kofi and tagged back Kane. Rey tagged in and hit a sitting senton and instant offense to get the crowd hot for a nearfall.

Rey tried to splash Kane but Kane hit a big boot...[C]

Del Rio hit a clothesline to Rey for a nearfall. Del Rio went for a Sunset Flip but Rey hit a kick to Del Rio’s head. Del Rio hit a gutbuster to Rey and tagged back in Kane. Rey hit Kane with a tornado DDT and both men struggled to make a tag. Both men eventuall tagged in and Kofi was on fire with his offense to Del Rio. Del Rio hit a tilt-o-whirl backbreaker for a nearfall. Kofi hit a crossbody to Del Rio for a nearfall.

Del Rio got frustrated and he eat a Big Boot from Kane. Kofi picked up Rey and Rey kicked Del Rio. Rey hit the 619 and Kofi hit the Trouble in Paradise for the win...

Mind of Marv: This was a fun match overall. Besides the basic Kane offense, this match kept my undivided attention. These four guys are the backbones of SD in the Rumble match because the match is Raw brand heavy. Kofi and Del Rio should be the guys to look forward to if I was a betting on a winner of the Rumble...

Footage of everyone in the champions and challengers match was shown attacking each other on Raw this past Monday. Rated RKO vs. The Miz and Dolph Zigger is still to come...[C]

[Q6] Show cut a promo about his height and being a giant. He said that he was a target and people try to make an impact at his expense. Footage was shown from two weeks ago when the Corre beats the hell out of the Big Show. He said the Corre accomplished two things: they made him angry and they don’t want any part of him when he is angry. Secondly, he is aware that five people will try to attack him. He said he never won a Rumble match and the Corre came out to confront Show.

Show asked if this is how its gonna be and he challenges all four members.

5. Big Show squashed Heath Slater in 1:15. Show hit a big boot and his basic offense to Slater. Slater hit a chop block and from one knee, Show chopped up Slater and splashed on him in the corner. Show hit a shoulderblock and chokeslammed Slater for the quick win..

Post match, the Corre beat up on Show until Chris Masters, Daniel Bryan, Santino and Kozlov chased off the Corre. The Champions and Challengers match is next...[C]

Mind of Marv: Mr. Wendy getting squashed in over a minute makes the Corre look weak. I don’t see what money they have with Slater, but if they have to do some spring cleaning, I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s let go. Otherwise, this was the filler segment so I didn’t expect much.

[Q7] The Rumble hype video was shown and the Rumble card was ran down. Miz and Alex Riley made their entrance and Michael Cole had a damn verbal blowjob about the Miz...ugh. The Miz cut a promo about the Truman doctrine and said it had nothing to the match. He put himself over in usual fashion and talked about Orton hearing his voice saying that he is still WWE Champion and he’s still awesome. Dolph and Vickie made their way to the ring and the match is next...[C]

Mind of Marv: The Miz is indeed AWESOME but bringing up some US History was something I didn’t want to hear. Who feeds these guys these worthless promos???

[Q8] 6. World Heavyweight Champion Edge and Randy Orton defeated Dolph Ziggler and WWE Champion The Miz in 11:35. Orton and Dolph started the matchup. Dolph hit some punches but Orton countered with a clothesline. Miz and Orton was playing cat and mouse and Dolph took advantage. Orton jumped Dolph and tagge din Edge. Edge hit a elbow from the top for a nearfall. The Miz tagged in and pressed his weight on Edge and Riley got a cheap shot in. Edge hit a big boot to the Miz and tagged in Orton.

Orton hit his instant offense and he setup for the RKO and they took the last commercial break. [C]

The show returned with the heels working on Orton. The Miz covered for a nearfall on Orton. Miz hit a knee to Orton’s midsection for a nearfall. Miz applied a chinlock to Orton and scrapped his eyes. Miz continued with the chinlock and the Miz hit the Reality Check for the nearfall.

Mind of Marv: I hate that they don’t call that move anymore now that he is champion...

Edge tagged in and hit a flapjack to Dolph. Edge setup for the spear but Riley interfered. Dolph went for the Zig Zag but Edge backed off and hit a spear for the win. Vickie said until further notice, the spear is illegal. He said that the spear is banned and if hits it on Dolph, he will be disqualified and lose the world title. Edge speared Dolph off the ropes and in front of the announcers table.

Edge looked sadistic and he was going to spear Vickie but he speared Dolph for the third time. Edge stood tall and Vickie bitched to end the show...

Mind of Marv: This was an above average main event which played nicely into the upcoming matchups at the Rumble. Edge vs. Dolph will be a interesting match and The Miz and Randy Orton should be a quality match. Of course these matches mean nothing because the Rumble is the premier match of the card. Overall, I didn’t have a lot of hope for this show based off spoilers, but this show was better than I expected. The did a lot of emphasis for the Rumble and this should be a good show to tune into.
