Jan 27, 2011 - 07:00 PM

By Adam Dunn

WWE Superstars on WGN America
Taped in Cincinnati, OH and Detroit, MI

Dunn's Decision: No Chris Masters on this show? I am officially looking forward to Superstars.

[Q1] The opening video aired, followed by extensive pyro. Trent Barreta's music played. Matt Striker and Jack Korpela welcome us to the show. My favorite man on the planet, Tyler Reks, followed.

1.Tyler Reks defeated Trent Barreta at 5:18. Korpela hyped Barreta's past, about how he stood up to bully's, and Reks threw him around. Reks hit a running knee and a gutbuster to get things going. Reks then began working over Barreta with some hard knees, and kicks to the gut. Reks applied a side chinlock that Barreta fought out of, only to take another kick to the gut.

At 2:30, Reks made some growls at the crowd. He continued to manhandle Barreta. Barreta finally got some offense in with an enziguri and a running elbow in the corner. Barreta hit a knee to the face for a near fall.

Reks countered Barreta's attempt to go to the top, and Reks hit the Burning Hammer" for the win...The NXT video aired...The announcers hyped the Truth/Kidd main event. [C]

Dunn's Decision: That was a squash, but a good one. Reks looked incredibly dominant, and showcased that he could be something impactful for the WWE. His look is really solid, and the Burning Hammer is just devastating. Fun match.

[Q2] Scott Stanford and Josh Matthews welcomed us back to the show, as Ryder and Primo made their way out. So yes, Primo is a heel now.

Ryder got on the mic and yelled about how they deserved a better reaction that what they were getting. He said they were the most overlooked superstars in the company. Primo said he didn't appreciate the fans and that him and Ryder were the best tag team around and deserved to be on Raw.

2. Primo and Zack Ryder defeated Yoshi Tatsu and David Hart Smith at 11:14. Smith and Ryder started things out. Smith hit a quick arm drag and did some mat wrestling. Tatsu tagged in to a nice reaction, and landed a mean looking kick on Ryder. Ryder fought his way out and tagged in Primo, he was immediately taken down. Tatsu applied a side arm hold.

Smith tagged in hit a good looking belly to belly suplex. Then Smith hit his best move, the stall suplex, for a near fall. Smith booted Primo to the outside. Ryder and Primo recovered on the outside. [C]

Back at 6:34, Primo had Smith on the ground in a side headlock. Primo moved him to the corner and stomped him. Ryder tagged in and took over. Ryder hit a leg drop for a nearfall, then followed with a rear chin lock. The crowd got hot and rallied behind Smith, who fought out but got leveled by a back elbow to the face from Ryder.

Ryder taunted Smith in the corner and tagged Primo in. Primo irish whipped Ryder into Smith in the corner, then hit a suplex for a nearfall. Ryder checked in, and took a side suplex from Smith.

Tatsu worked for the hot tag and finally got it. Tatsu hit some rapid fire chops and kicks on Primo and a running kick to the face for a near fall. Tatsu hit a great looking roundhouse kick on Primo. Ryder and Smith spilled to the outside.

Primo hit a punch to the face on Tatsu, then hit the Backstabber for the win...The announcers hyped the Truth/Kidd main event again. [C]

Dunn's Decision: I love the idea of a Ryder/Primo tag team. Both can cut pretty decent promos, and their styles work. The match was solid. Smith played the face in trouble pretty well, and when Tatsu got the hot tag, the crowd erupted. Tatsu needs to expand his move set though, because he's very limited in what he can do. Smith continues to improve.

[Q3] A Dolph Ziggler hype video aired...The Royal Rumble numbers video aired...Stanford and Matthews ran through the Rumble card.

R-Truth made his very energetic entrance. I love how out of breath he gets singing "What's Up." [C]

[Q4] Back in the arena, Kidd make his entrance. He looks pretty happy for a guy that's lost two weeks in a row.

3. R-Truth defeated Tyson Kidd at 12:17. The referee started the match was Kidd was still posing on the turnbuckle. I think that's a bit unfair. Both men felt each other out to start, as Truth kept yelling "What's up!" to the crowd. Kidd locked in a side headlock and then hit a running shoulder block. The crowd booed.

Truth fought right back with a running shoulder block of his own as both men hit the reset button. Kidd got aggressive and pummeled Truth in the corner. Truth did a flip and a cartwheel out of the corner. He then clotheslined Kidd over the top and fell with him to the outside. [C]

Back at 7:57, Kidd has a rear chin lock on Truth. Truth fought out, but Kidd hit a shot to the gut and a dropkick for a near fall. With Truth down, Kidd played to the crowd and then applied another headlock.

At 10:17, Truth hit a flap jack, leaving both men down. Both men got to their feet and Truth started gaining momentum. He hit a flipping suplex into a stunner on Kidd for a near fall. Kidd moved out of the way of the axe kick and hit a dropkick on Truth. He went for the sharpshooter, but Truth countered. Truth then hit the What's Up for the win.

Dunn's Decision: A really slow match. I don't like Kidd's wrestling style as a single's wrestler. He focuses on too many headlocks and chin locks. He should be fighting much faster paced matchups. Truth was his normal self here. That flip suplex into a stunner was awesome looking though. Solid show.
