By Marv Hermanstyne

WWE Smackdown on Syfy
Taped in Tulsa, OK

[Q1] The show started with highlights from last week when Wade Barrett, Ezekiel and the exile Nexus members beat down Big Show. The four men made their way to the ring...

Mind of Marv: Barrett’s music f’n sucks...

Wade said that the Big Show will not be there and he talked about being the leader of the Nexus. He said that he recognized his errors and the Nexus shouldn’t have been about him but the entire group. He name the group, the Corre. Zeke Jackson cut a generic promo about being proud of being apart of the Corre. Red head Wendy...I mean Heath Slater put himself over and Gabriel put over his 450 Splash.

Wade talked about what the Corre will do and Teddy Long interrupted. Long said he is not naive and he is the GM. He said if they break the rules, they will have a problem. Wade said that the Corre respects Long and he should be happy to have them. Wade talked about being int he Rumble and representing SD. Wade talked the Corre talking over SD and Long denied Wade’s words about making an impact. Wade said they are all equals and Long said that he is not a anonymous GM or a computer. Long talked about beating on Big Show and if it happens again, it will be the last time.

Zeke said that they are disappointed that Long didn’t welcome them and Long said they can like SD or leave it...

Meanwhile, Alberto Del Rio came out in a Bentley which cost $250K not $100K...stupid Striker. Del Rio had a mic and said that he knows that the Corre is new to SD and he introduced himself. Del Rio welcomed them but he said that SD is his show. He said that he will win the Rumble because its his destiny. Del Rio will face R-Truth for the 1509 time, next. [C]

Mind of Marv: This was a snoozer segment because Barrett is the only one that can talk. Zeke is OK on the mic, but the Nexus rejects (Gabriel and Slater) need to be muzzled. Barrett is already a star and it boggles me that the other three guys need him to be relevant.

[Q2] 1. Alberto Del Rio beat R-Truth by submission in 10:45. Del Rio got the early advantage to on Truth and Truth countered with a clothesline. Truth slammed Del Rio head into the ring and kicked him for a nearfall. Backstage, Teddy Long was unconscious in his office and Dolph Ziggler, Vickie Guerrero and Michael Tarver was inside checking on him along with the EMTs.

Back to the match...Truth hit a hurracarana to Del Rio and clotheslined him off the ring. [C]

The show returned with Del Rio tripping Truth off the ropes for a nearfall. Del Rio applied a side headlock to Truth. Truth got out of the hold and Del Rio hit a drop toe hold to Truth for a nearfall. Backstage, Long was stretched out and the EMTs told everyone to leave. Back to the match...

Truth hit some instant offense to Del Rio for a nearfall. Cole said that Teddy Long received severe trauma to the head. Truth hit a hip toss to Del Rio and Rich Rod was being a distraction. Del Rio yanked Truth’s arm and applied his finisher for the win...

Backstage, Teddy Long was taken away by the ambulance...[C] [Q3]

Mind of Marv: Its hard to say this about a Del Rio match, but it was forgettable and more importantly distracting. How the hell are you supposed to be into a match when the cameras keep going to the back to check up on Teddy Long? As predictable as the WWE has been, you should have a good idea who beat Long down. If Long gets written off TV, we are going to hear a lot of: EXCUSE ME! for the foreseeable future, ugh.

Backstage, Vickie hoped that Long was OK and The Corre said they had nothing to do with Long’s trauma. They offered their services and Vickie said that one of them will face Edge tonight...

The Royal Rumble hype video was shown and Rey vs. Cody Rhodes will face each other later...[C]

[Q4] 2. Beth Phoenix beat Layla in 3:30. Layla got her kicking skills on but Beth countered by swinging her like a helicopter. Layla hit a tornado DDT to Beth. Layla covered for a nearfall and applied a key lock to Beth. Beth powered out of the key lock and hit some nice offense to Layla. Beth hit a springboard suplex to Layla for a nearfall. Beth hit backbreaker and the Glam Slam for the win...[C]

Mind of Marv: This was a OK match but I was still distracted because these ladies are my favorite Divas on this SD brand...

The Stand Up for WWE campaign got an award for the most creative social media campaign...

Mind of Marv: It didn’t help Linda McMahon win any extra votes...

3. Rey Mysterio defeated “Dashing” Cody Rhodes in 4:00. Cody kicked Rey and clotheslined him to start the match. Rey hit a hurracarana but Cody countered with a kick to Rey’s weak left knee. Cody pressed his weight on Rey’s knee. Rey hit a drop toe hold to Cody on the ring steps. Rey hit a sitting senton to Cody for a nearfall. Rey hit a springboard to Cody for a nearfall.

[Q5] Rey hit the 619 to Cody and splashed on Cody for the win. The replay of the 619 was shown because Rey’s knee brace possibly broke Cody’s nose. The announcers went to somber mode to talk about Teddy Long. Todd Grisham was talking about Long’s condition and Alex Riley interrupted him by saying that Todd should talk about someone who is on the show as opposed to someone who isn’t. The Miz popped up and said that he can do what he wants...[C]

Mind of Marv: The “Dashing” one is one hell of a jobber because that’s all he’s been doing for the past month. Creative finally realizes that this gimmick sucks just as bad as the Packers...was that a shot?

The show returned with Cody Rhodes crying about his nose being broken...

4. Jack Swagger beat Intercontinental Kofi Kingston in an amateur wrestling match in 3:00. Swagger hit a double leg takedown for two points. Kofi got two points for escape. Swagger took down for 2 more points. Swagger got two points for a nearfall. Kofi got his third point with the escape. Swagger had two more takedowns to reach 10 points. Kofi had a take down and escape to get to nine points.

Post match, both men beat on each other and Kofi hit the Trouble in Paradise to Swagger. Kofi hit a crossbody to Swagger...

Mind of Marv: I wrestled my freshman year in high school and this contest was half assed. The crowd could care less about this exhibition. At least no one got hurt like the great Jeff Jarrett says during his MMA exhibitions....

[Q6] Footage was shown of Edge getting beat down by Dolph last week and Edge will face someone from the Corre...[C]

Footage of Drew McIntyre beating the hell out of Trent Baretta and Kelly Kelly taking away his manhood verbally...

5. Drew McIntyre beat Trent Barreta in 2:00. Trent got some early shots in by Drew took over by hitting a snap suplex for a nearfall. Trent hit a nice dropkick to Drew and kicked him while he wa son the ropes. Trent went to the top but Drew caught him and powerbombed him for a nearfall. Trent went to the top rope and Drew threw Barreta in the air for the quick win...

Post match, Trent hit Drew out of the ring and Drew beat the shit out of him until Kelly Kelly came out. Drew pleaded his case and Kelly attended to Trent. Kelly told Drew to leave and like a punk, he left...[C]

Mind of Marv: Could anyone care less about Drew McIntyre? The match was throwaway, but can we agree that Kelly has an nice ass?

[Q7] The Miz and Alex Riley came to the ring for a promo...

The Miz said tell him how he really feel because of all the heat he is getting. Miz said that being awesome is doing awesome. He talked about beating on Randy Orton and footage was shown of Orton getting beatdown by Miz on Raw. He said let the evidence show that he is the Miz and...was interrupted by Edge.

Edge said that the Miz is done and called him a Raw reject. He said that Miz was wasting his time talking about beating on Randy Orton on Raw. The Miz countered by saying he better ready for what he has in store on Raw. Edge said that The Miz is #27 on things to do and he told Miz to leave his ring. The Miz left the ring and Riley tried to talk some smack and he eat a spear from Edge. The Miz teased everyone by trying to get in the ring....[C]

Mind of Marv: We need more babyfaces on SD because Edge as a babyface is hard to watch. His promos are so damn terrible because its forced. He’s a natural heel and dammit he needs to go back to that. The Miz is a heel heat vacuum and that what makes him awesome. As many finishers as he taken, how come Riley isn’t future endeavored yet?

[Q8] The Corre came out and Vickie did her usual bit for her heat. She named Dolph Ziggler the special guest commentator...

6. Justin Gabriel defeated World Heavyweight Champion Edge in a non-title match in 10:35. Both men was back and forth until Edge hit a nasty Irish Whip to Gabriel. Gabriel missed a kick and Edge countered for a nearfall. Gabriel worked on Edge in the corner and he hit a spinning heel kick to Edge’s midsection. Edge countered with a elbow to Gabriel head and he hit a big boot to Gabriel outside of the ring.

The show returned with Gabriel controlling the match by applying a modified abdominal stretch. Edge got out of the hold by hitting elbows to Gabriel. Gabriel hit a Mic Check type move and went to the top rope but he jumped and Edge botched a dropkick. Edge hit a flapjack to Gabriel and he hit a reverse hangman to Gabriel. Edge went to the top but Gabriel hit a kick to Edge’s head. Gabriel went for a superplex but Edge headbutted him off and hit a crossbody for a nearfall.

Edge setup for a spear but the Corre got involved and Zeke clotheslined Edge. Gabriel covered and got the win. The Corre surrounded Edge and Edge tried to fight him off but Edge eat everyone’s finisher and looks weak for the second week in a row. Dolph got in the ring and stood tall over Edge to close the show...

Mind of Marv: This match didn’t deserve the main event slot but in the case of this show, they really didn’t have a choice because everything sucked. We had basically rematches all night except this match and I was bored to tears as a result. Overall, this was a very below average show which did not convince to purchase the Rumble. SD needs a strong show next week because it will be the final show before the PPV.
