Dec 31, 2010 - 07:00 PM

By Marv Hermanstyne

WWE Smackdown on Syfy
Taped in Rochester, New York

Mind of Marv: I’m having technical difficulties, bear with me...

[Q1] The show kicked off with main event being hyped and the opening montage was shown. Dolph Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero came to the ring for a promo. Dolph and Vickie looked sorry and Vickie did her Excuse Me bid to garner cheap heat. Vickie said that she was filing a complaint against John Cena because of AA that he almost did on her. She said that she doesn’t have an attitude and it doesn’t need to be adjusted. Video was shown of what Cena tried to do last week.

She said because of what happened, she has vertigo and is not allowed to be 2 ½ feet off the ground. Dolph like a dork, described the definition of vertigo and Vickie bitched about all of her symptoms. She said that they did research and over 1000 people suffer from vertigo and everyone should show her some compassion. Kofi interrupted this dragging promo and got a nice pop from the crowd.

Kofi said that Vickie should show compassion and be quiet. She whined about having a serious condition and Kofi said that she is suffering from amnesia. Video was shown of Vickie on the ladder at TLC and Kofi said the other problem was how the match ended. Jack Swagger came out to add his two cents. Swagger for the first time in his life, Kofi Kingston is right about something. Swagger said it was injustice and more footage was shown with Kofi and Swagger knocking the belt off and Dolph grabbed it to retain.

Swagger said that he should’ve won the match and he talked about his accolades. Dolph said that he was jealous because he’s the champ. He said the most important thing is that he is still champion. Kofi said he doesn’t deserve to be champion because he wants a rematch. Swagger said he wanted a rematch and Dolph balked and said that they are the guest of honor at Teddy Long’s party. All men fought and Kofi cleared house.

Teddy Long came out and said that they will face each other in a triple threat match tonight and they are all invited to his Holla Holla holiday party. The tag team match was hyped again....[C] [Q2]

Mind of Marv: This was a decent segment that sets up the main event but besides Swagger, the other guys plain suck on the mic. This has potential to be a great match but if they want to make these guys main eventers, they all need improvement.

1. Big Show beat “Dashing” Cody Rhodes by countout in 2:50. Show dominated early in the match by tossing and punching Cody. Show gave Cody a stinkface and Cody checked himself out in the mirror and Show grabbed him and destroyed him. Show tried to toss his weight but Cody countered with flash kick. Show hit a shoulderblock to Cody and Show tried to knock Cody out but Cody walked out and got counted out.

Mind of Marv: This was a glorified squash that did nothing but make Cody look even more weak.

Backstage, everyone was partying and Rosa and Horny was up to their comedy bullshit. Alberto Del Rio’s rookie was acting crazy towards Rosa and Horny. Teddy Long welcomed everyone to the party and said that people should make resolutions. Drew McIntyre said that his resolution is to be champion and a better person. Chavo came up drunk with some champagne and said that everyone was ignorant and they were jokes. Teddy said that the champagne was non-alcoholic and everyone looked like they wanted to kick his ass. [C]

Mind of Marv: Simple but funny segment...

[Q3] 2. Drew McIntyre defeated Trent Barreta by referee stoppage in 4:40. Trent threw Drew into the corner and Drew countered into a neck toss. Trent had a neck takedown of his own and hit arm drag takedown. Drew powerbomber Trent into the corner and smacked the hell out of him. Drew clotheslined Trent three times and covered for a nearfall. Drew applied an armbar to Trent and Trent countered with punches. Trent hit a standing enziguri for a nearfall. Trent hit a missle dropkick to Drew outside of the ring.

Trent missed a suicide dive and laid unconscious. Drew hit a Future Shock to Trent and told him Happy New Year. The main events were hyped again...[C]

Mind of Marv: This match was pathetic because of the way it ended. It looked like Trent was legitimately hurt and the need to add cheap heat to McIntyre was deplorable. There is no rebuilding to McIntyre because his character is already damaged.

Chavo was crying to the Eagle and they hugged. LayCool, Natayla and Beth argued backstage at the party and Teddy Long said that the four ladies will face each other in a tag match tonight. Long told the Eagle that it was a close one....

Edge made his entrance and he will be teaming with Rey Mysterio to face Del Rio and Kane, next...[C] [Q4]

Mind of Marv: Sorry for the inconvenience with the 45 minute delay...the website wanted to take a 45 minute shit, but I’m back and better than ever....

3. Rey Mysterio and World Heavyweight Champion Edge defeated Alberto Del Rio and Kane in 12:45. Rey and Del Rio started the match. Rey setup the 619 early but Del Rio moved and Edge tagged in. Edge got some early offense on Del Rio and Kane tried to interfere but Edge hit a dropkick to Kane. Edge did an innovative move to setup a spot splash by Rey. [C]

The show returned with both heels attacking Edge and Edge countered with some blows to Kane in the corner. Del Rio tripped Edge and tagged in to a dropkick to Edge’s head for a nearfall. Del Rio pressed his weight on Edge and kicked him for a nearfall. Kane got back in the match and stomped out Edge. Kane covered for a nearfall and Edge countered with a boot to Kane. Rey tagged in and hit a sitting senton to Kane and hit his instant offense to Kane.

Rey went for a crossbody but Kane hit a sick uppercut to Rey and threw him out. Del Rio got a cheap shot to Rey and Kane continued with the attack by throwing Rey into the security railing. The heels attacked Rey and Del Rio hit a super kick to Rey in the midsection for a nearfall. Del Rio hit a gut buster for a nearfall and he applied a body scissors to Rey. Rey got out of the body scissors but Del Rio hit a tilt-o-whirl backbreaker for a nearfall.

[Q5] Kane got back in the match and hit a sidewalk backbreaker. Rey hit a inverted DDT to Kane and Edge tagged in. Del Rio got in the match also and Edge hit his instant offense with a flapjack and an Impaler DDT. Edge setup for the spear but Kane interfered and got thrown out and dropkicked.

Rey hit the 619 and Edge speared Del Rio for the win...

Mind of Marv: Excellent tag team TV match...if we get more matches like this, I would be more satisfied.

Backstage, Chavo was talking to Kaitlyn and he thought that he had helium when he really didn’t. Chris Masters and Horny was pec flexing, ugh. Big Show said that Kelly should be careful with Drew McIntyre. Cody said he was the face of the brand and Show said he would break his nose. Teddy said that Del Rio will face Rey Mysterio in a 2 out of 3 falls match and Edge will face Kane for the world title in a last man standing match...[C]

Mind of Marv: Good deal to load up SD for 2011...this should be must see TV next week since this will be the blowoffs to these feuds...I hope.

[Q6] LayCool got the jobber, no TV entrance and the Sisters of Destruction made their way to the ring...

Mind of Marv: Natayla and Beth self-proclaimed this on Twitter, by the way...

4. Divas Champion Natalya and Beth Phoenix defeated LayCool in 9:40. Beth picked up McCool and the babyfaces worked on McCool. McCool tried to hit the Faith Breaker on Nattie but Nattied countered out and caught a big boot from McCool...[C]

The show returned with Layla and Natayla in a position that would turn most guys on...but anyway...Layla fell on Nattie for a nearfall. Layla hit a dropkick to Nattie. Beth attacked Layla but McCool used her legs to make Beth tumble out of the ring. LayCool took turns working on Beth. Layla applied a crossface to Beth and Beth tossed her off. Nattie tagged in and hit multiple clotheslines to Layla.

Nattie setup for the Sharpshooter but Layla broke out and Nattie still found a way to apply it but McCool kicked the crap out of her. Beth got back in the match and McCool eat a Glam Slam for the win...

Mind of Marv: Michelle McCool doing jobs make me so happy! But anyway, nice match between the Divas and I have high hopes for the ladies since Awesome Kong is coming to WWE!

Teddy Long congratulated everyone for a great year and for the first time in WWE history, they had a party that didn’t have a fight. Chavo said that the party was lame and Show poured punch on him. Chavo slammed Horny into the cake and of course a fight broke out and Chavo said that what they call a party. Horny slammed caked in Chavo’s face...

Mind of Marv: Enough with the “sports entertainment” shit! Where’s my drink??? I kid...I can wait 35 minutes.

[Q7] The Raw Rebound was shown and ring introductions were done for all the participants in the triple threat match for the IC title...[C]

5. Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler defeated Kofi Kingston and Jack Swagger in a Triple Threat match to retain in 16:15. All three men attacked each other until both heels took advantge by attacking Kofi. Swagger pressed Kofi’s face into the ring and the announcers were annoying talking nothing about this match. Swagger slammed Kofi’s knee into the ring and pressed his weight on Kofi. Dolph hit a jumping elbow and Swagger hit a leg drop to Kofi. The heels continued with the attack to Kofi...

Mind of Marv: Well we get to watch the black guy get his ass kicked for the first four minutes of this match...ugh.

Kofi came back by hitting offense to both heels to knock both out of the ring. Kofi hit a suicide dive to both heels to the commerical break. [C][Q8]

The show returned with Kofi applying a armbar to Swagger and Dolph was outside of the ring. Kofi hit a jumping clothesline and went for the Boom Drop but Dolph dragged Koif out of the ring and clotheslined him. Swagger pulled Dolph’s hair and Dolph hit Rocker Dropper to Swagger for a nearfall.

Dolph hit a neckbreaker to Kofi for a nearfall. Dolph hit his boring elbow again for a nearfall to Kofi. Vickie was being annoying outside of the ring and the crowd chanted for Kofi. Dolph shoulderblocked Swagger into the security railing and applied a headlock to Kofi. Dolph missed a splash to Kofi in the corner and Kofi hit his offense to Dolph and hit the Boom Drop.

Kofi hit the Boom Drop but went for the TIP but Swagger interfered. Swagger hit some offense and Dolph went a superplex but Swagger hit a powerbomb for a nearfall. Kofi hit a crossbody to Swagger for a nearfall. All three men went for their finishers and Dolph hit his for a nearfall because Kofi broke the three count. Kofi and Swagger exchanged blows and Kofi hit a DDT to Swagger for a nearfall because Vickie was distracting Kofi.

Swagger went for the gutwrench but Kofi hit the Trouble in Paradise. Dolph ran in schoolboyed Kofi for the win. The announcers hyped the matches for next week.

Mind of Marv: This was a ho-hum main event to close 2010. These guys can work their ass off, but this match didn’t click with me at all. This has potential to be a world title feud for all three of these guys and it was just treated as mid-card bullshit. I figured because the IC title would shine because you have three of the better workers featured, but as the match went along, I didn’t care.

Overall, this was a slightly above average show which featured its share of campy comedy that does ZERO for this viewer. I can go on and on about how this brand can change, but I’m not doing audio. Chris will have members exclusive audio of the show sometime tomorrow...

Chris Shore will have the Smackdown Hitlist tomorrow and I want everyone to have a Happy New Year! Please be responsible and you can follow me on Twitter @TheMEFACreator and/or find me on Facebook at facebook.com/mr.hermanstyne. I will see you next week...
