12/13 Twilling's WWE Raw Live Coverage: Three hour broadcast featuring the 2010 Slammy Awards, Diva battle royal to crown the Diva of the Year, will Wade Barrett rehire John Cena or be kicked out of The Nexus?
Dec 13, 2010 - 10:00 PM

By Rich Twilling

WWE Raw on the USA Network
Live from New Orleans, Louisiana

[Q1] The Slammy Awards are more exciting than the Oscars and the Tonys, according to WWE. The show was introduced like a pay-per-view. Fireworks lit up the stage. Michael Cole introduced the show and said everyone in the announce booth had won a Slammy.

CM Punk and Jerry Lawler checked in on commentary. King said he wished he could get his hands on Cole, but Cole reminded him he would be fired...

Twill's Two Cents: Glad they made reference to the situation between King and Cole.

Former WCW Champion (yes, they said that) David Arquette came out to present the first award. He cut a heel promo and said he beat Eric Bischoff. "You all remember him." He called himself one of the best champions of all time and did so with a bad case of laryngitis...

Twill's Two Cents: Nice get for WWE. Arquette has enough history to be a solid addition to a show like this.

The nominees were not announced but were revealed via video package. Arquette was excited to present The Nexus with the award. Wade Barrett came out solo to accept the award. He said The Nexus was there because of him and now they might kick him out.

He said he was also the man with the power to rehire John Cena. He said he was not sure what he was going to do, but he was going to decide by the end of the night. He vowed to create more shocking moments in the future...

2010 Shocker of the Year: The Nexus.

The anonymous Raw GM chimed in. Cole handled the reading of the email. The Raw GM booked a match between Barrett and the Big Show. Show came out, took Wade's Slammy, and headed to the ring...

1. Big Show defeated Wade Barrett by count out in 3:43. Barrett stalled and then poked Show in the eye to gain the advantage. Show quickly righted himself and Barrett continued to to run. He grabbed his Slammy and walked to the back, purposely getting himself counted out...

Twill's Two Cents: Having looked at those two, I could see that being a program down the road. Barrett doesn't look all that small compared to Show, so maybe they could get a few months out of them in the future.

The graphic for "Superstar of the Year" was shown. The Miz, John Cena, Edge, Kane, Rey Mysterio, or Randy Orton will win the award. Predictions? I will go with Cena... [C]

[Q2] Kelly Kelly and Tyson Kidd were the presenters for the "Despicable Me" award. Kelly stumbled a bit with the teleprompter. Kidd "took a detour" and introduced Jackson Andrews. He then congratulated Kelly for "saying more big words in the past few seconds than you ever have."

Twill's Two Cents: Nice. What do you know? Tyson can talk and has the ability to be a heel.

Kelly came back and congratulated Tyson for speaking more than he had in his entire WWE career. They ran through the nominees. Vince McMahon (with Bret Hart), C.M. Punk (interrupting Rey Mysterio singing to his daughter), and others were nominated. Kidd announced Punk as the winner Cole and Punk hugged...

2010 "Despicable Me" Award: C.M. Punk.

Punk said dreams come true with hard work and believing in yourself. Punk said Mysterio wronged him and someone backstage did so as well. "I hold grudges. If you wrong me, I will get my revenge." He never revealed who he was talking about...

Kofi Kingston's music hit and he made his entrance. Daniel Bryan made his entrance and is wearing a new shirt. It is grey with "Daniel Bryan" and a ring on the front, with "Submission Wrestling" on the back. The Bella Twins accompanied him...

[Q3] 2. Daniel Bryan (with Nikki Bella and Brie Bella) and Kofi Kingston defeated Dolph Ziggler (with Vickie Guerrero) and Ted DiBiase (with Maryse) in 3:04. The match was joined in progress with Ziggler on the offensive. He hit a Rocker Dropper on Bryan for a two count.

Ziggler and DiBiase exchanged tags and scored nearfalls. Kofi made the hot tag and hit Ziggler with the boom drop. He hit the Trouble in Paradise on Ziggler. DiBiase tried to break up the fall but was too late. Kofi scored the pin...

Twill's Two Cents: Given who was involved, that was disappointing and an afterthought. That could have and should have been much longer and much better.

The Superstar of the Year graphic was shown again. I still think Cena wins and then we'll get a Miz promo, planting seeds for the two of them at WrestleMania... [C]

Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov came out the introduce the "Guest Star Shining Moment of the Year." Santino made fun of Kozlov being embarrassed by the cast of MacGruber. Kozlov threatened to "crush" Santino. Santino apologized and said he loved him.

Mike Tyson, Pee Wee Herman, Wayne Brady, and William Shatner were the nominees. Santino presented the award to Pee Wee Herman. Pee Wee was not in attendance but gave his acceptance speech, with Slammy in hand, in a pre-taped segment...

2010 Guest Star Shining Moment of the Year: Pee Wee Herman.

Twill's Two Cents: How Shatner doing dramatic readings of the WWE theme songs did not win this award? Ridiculous.

Punk echoed what I just said. Shatner was robbed...

Backstage, David Otunga and The Nexus confronted Wade Barrett. Otunga said The Nexus would be fine without Barrett and Barrett's singles career doesn't look great right now after his match with Show. Barrett smiled and thanked Otunga. "Now I know exactly what I am going to do." ... [C]

[Q4] 3. Cody Rhodes defeated Mark Henry in 2:48. Henry pie faced Cody and Cody got pissed, beating Henry down and applying a chin lock. Henry missed a charge into the corner and Cody his a springboard kick. He followed with a top rope knee to the back for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: Henry used to be in that category with Big Show and Kane, where he was a "punishment opponent" for heels. Now, beating him means next to nothing because Cody made that look simple.

The Holy Shit Move of the Year award was hyped... [C]

Jerry Lawler and Vickie Guerrero came out to present the award. Lawler said he was at the veterinarian all night with his pet lizard. "Reptile Dysfunction." Haha. They traded verbal jabs and Vickie's weight was mocked.

John Morrison, Kofi Kingston, John Cena, and Randy Orton were the nominees. Orton's was for when he countered Evan Bourne's shooting star press with the RKO. Lawler presented the award to John Cena, who won the award for hitting the AA on Batista from the top of a car...

2010 Holy Shit Move of the Year: John Cena.

Twill's Two Cents: Orton got hosed. Bourne too for that matter.

[Q5] Wade Barrett came out to intercept the award and then went to the ring to announce his decision. He teased saying it but left the crowd hanging. He said he was not announcing his decision until John Cena came out to face him.

Cena came through the crowd and slid into the ring. The Nexus surrounded the ring. "Cena, you are officially rehired... On two conditions. Number one, you are agree to face me this Sunday at TLC in a chair match. Number two, you give the whole world what they have been waiting to see. Tonight, you go one on one with David Otunga...

Twill's Two Cents: I've been dying to see that match. No, not really. Is there a Slammy for "Worst Followthrough of a Stipulation"?

The Nexus entered the ring and beat down Cena. Wait, is it July? Did I go back in time? Barrett used a chair on Cena and then left. The Nexus followed him... [C]

[Q6] Footage aired of what happened right before the break. David Arquette changed into some sort of an "Elvis meets the Fourth of July" outfit. He plugged his work and introduced the "Reaction of the Year" nominees, which were still shots of fans reacting. The fans cheered for "Angry Miz girl." ...

2010 Reaction of the Year: Angry Miz girl.

The girl was actually in attendance. She came out her with her dad and her name is Kaylie. She shyly thanked her dad and maybe her sister too. The Miz came out and spoke to her from his knee in a condescending voice. He stole her Slammy and asked to see the look. She flashed the looked and walked to the back...

Twill's Two Cents: That girl received a louder reaction than Drew McIntyre ever has. She could also teach John Cena a facial reaction or two. By the way, even if her dad would have had his ass handed to him, he should have at least attempted to reclaim the Slammy for his daughter.

The Miz came to the ring with Alex Riley and explained why he should be the Superstar of the Year. The GM announced via Cole that both Miz and Randy Orton would face former World Champions. Miz's match is right now and Rey Mysterio made his entrance...

4. The Miz (with Alex Riley and David Arquette) defeated Rey Mysterio in a non-title match 7:02. Mysterio sent Miz to floor and ran the apron to hit a senton splash... [C]

Alberto Del Rio came out and it distracted Rey, giving Miz an offensive advantage. Rey came back and nearly pinned Miz at least five times. He set up for the 619, but the referee occupied himself with Alex Riley, allowing Del Rio to interfere. Miz took the advantage and pinned Mysterio...

Twill's Two Cents: That was weak. Mysterio looked very good, but that didn't do many favors for Miz. There is a difference between booking a vulnerable champion and a weak champion, and Miz looks weak right now. Luckily, he gains heat for himself with his promos and actions.

[Q7] Cole took the podium and read the next GM email. Randy Orton will face David Arquette and Alex Riley in a handicap match tonight...

The Diva of the Year battle royal was hyped... [C]

Edge came out to present the next Slammy. He teased Kane as his co-presenter, but said he had issues of his own. He needed a co-presenter and needed someone he knew well that he had chemistry with. Christian came out with his left arm in a sling.

Christian said he hoped Del Rio would win the award and said he didn't forget Del Rio putting him out of action. Alberto Del Rio, Big Show, Edge, and Batista were the nominees. Christian made the announcement and Edge won for destroying the Raw GM computer...

2010 Meltdown of the Year: Edge.

Edge said he was calm, and started to lose it. Christian started playing with his phone and teased he was the Raw GM. Christian said he was trying to ease the tension and calm Edge down. It worked. Edge calmed down and called Cole a "giant tool." ...

Twill's Two Cents: Nice to see Edge and Christian on camera again. The tease was pretty cool too. Maybe they will end the GM thing soon.

King Sheamus and John Morrison made their entrances...

[Q8] 5. King Sheamus vs. John Morrison ended in a double disqualification in :35. They brawled out of control the referee called for the bell...

Twill's Two Cents: What the hell for? They were fighting during a wrestling match. Call for the bell!

The Raw GM made another announcement. Sheamus vs. John Morrison in a ladder match to become the number one contender for the WWE Championship was booked for Sunday's PPV.

Sheamus was pissed. He grabbed a ladder and hit Morrison in the chest with it. He continued the attack and left Morrison laying on the floor...

Twill's Two Cents: Morrison in a PPV number one contender ladder match? They have to sell this as the best opportunity of his career.

John Cena vs. David Otunga was hyped... [C]

JTG and William Regal presented the "Knucklehead Moment of the Year." JTG yelled some ghetto stuff as Regal shook his head. JTG said, "LayCool beating Mae Young," but of course, it was the other way around...

2010 Knucklehead Moment of the Year: Michelle McCool and Layla.

The Diva of the Year battle royal will begin after the break... [C]

[Q9] 6. Michelle McCool won a Divas battle royal to become the 2010 Diva of the Year in 3:27. The ring cleared quickly and although it looked like everyone was going to team up to take out LayCool, it didn't happen that way.

Beth Phoenix eliminated Melina was a Glam Slam over the top rope. Nice. She then eliminated Layla, but Layla jumped back up and helped Michelle eliminate Beth. Michelle then finished the job by eliminating Natalya...

2010 Diva of the Year: Michelle McCool.

Twill's Two Cents: If this surprised anyone, you haven't been paying attention.

The GM checked in yet again and booked Natalya and Beth Phoenix vs. LayCool in a tag team tables match at the TLC PPV...

Edge was shown walking backstage. Apparently, the GM had the power to book him in match against Jack Swagger tonight... [C]

Footage aired of the Edge and Paul Bearer crap from Smackdown...

7. Edge defeated Jack Swagger in 4:43. Swagger controlled Edge early with punches, kicks, and knees. He worked hard on Edge's neck followed by his ribcage region. He scored the first nearfall of the match.

[Q10] Edge fought back for a few moments, but Swagger hit a modified Rock Bottom for another two count. Edge countered Swagger's corner splash but Swagger countered that counter with an ankle lock. Edge rolled through and nearly pinned him. He set up and hit his spear for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: Solid yet unspectacular. I like that Edge won the match clean leading into Sunday's pay-per-view.

Backstage, Alex Riley amusingly complained about David Arquette being his partner. "He hasn't been in the ring in ten years and when he wasn't even that good." Arquette came in all psyched and "compared" his accolades to Miz's. Miz said not to worry and he just wanted to put Orton through a table... [C]

Big Show came out in a suit to present the "Moment of the Year." He mentioned Hogan slamming Andre, Snuka splashing Muraco, and the birth of Austin 3:16. Free or Fired, Sheamus taking out Triple H, Edge spearing Chris Jericho through the barricade at Mania, and HBK vs. Undertaker were the nominees.

Show presented the award to Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker. Michaels appeared on the Titantron and accepted the award from his "disclosed location." He said he wasn't coming back and thanked everyone for the wonderful ride. "Do I miss it? No I don't. Do I miss you? Yes I do." ...

2010 Moment of the Year: Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker at WrestleMania 26.

Twill's Two Cents: There is no "Match of the Year" category this year, but this basically becomes that award now. Nice to see Michaels on camera again for the first time in a long time. He said he might see everyone soon, but I'd be shocked if he wrestled again anytime soon.

Cena vs. Otunga and Orton vs. Riley and Arquette were hyped... [C]

[Q11] Randy Orton made his entrance. The Miz, David Arquette, and Alex Riley came out together...

8. Randy Orton defeated Alex Riley and David Arquette (with The Miz) in a handicap match in 3:19. Arquette tagged in when Orton was down, but quickly got out of there when Orton recovered. Riley beat Orton into their corner and distracted the referee for Arquette to choke Orton.

Orton hit his powerslam and followed with an Angle slam. He set up for the RKO and hit it for the three count. Miz attacked him right away. Arquette and Miz set up the table. Orton blocked a double supelx and went after Miz, but Arquette hit Orton from behind.

Orton stared at Arquette and then struck. Miz got the hell out of there and watched from the ramp. Orton then powerbombed Arquette through the table. David was put on a board and taken out of there...

Twill's Two Cents: Arquette played the role well and Orton looked stronger than The Miz going into the pay-per-view, which is the right thing to do. Will fans be convinced enough that a title change could take place at the PPV to order the show?

[Q12] John Cena made an announcement regarding the Make-A-Wish Foundation... [C]

The announcers ran down the TLC pay-per-view card...

Cole came out to present the "And I Quote Line of the Year." Too many nominees to point out. NXT season two contestants Eli Cottonwood and Titus O'Neill made appearances. Cole presented the award to himself...

2010 And I Quote Line of the Year: Michael Cole.

Cole said he was surprised but then took out a speech. The Raw music played over him. The Superstar of the Year graphic was shown one more time... [C]

Teddy Long came out to present the Superstar of the Year. In case you missed the nominees, they are Edge, The Miz, Kane, John Cena, Rey Mysterio, and Randy Orton. He presented the award to John Cena. Cena gave a timeline of events that have involved him this year...

2010 Superstar of the Year: John Cena.

[Overrun] Cena reiterated that he was back full time on Raw. He said he would continue to be a man of his word. He said he has two more Nexus members on his list, Otunga and Barrett. He said Otunga will get hurt tonight. He finished his promo talking about Barrett and headed to the ring.

The Nexus came out to the stage. The group that sings their them song, 12 Stones, was shown at ringside. I didn't see, but was that six guys? Is that where they got their name? Anyway, Barrett showed footage of the beatdown on Cena earlier.

Otunga stood on the apron as each member of The Nexus left the stage one by one, just like they all did to Barrett last week...

9. John Cena defeated David Otunga in 1:48. Cena dominated very early. Otunga came back for a few seconds. Cena regained the advantage and made Otunga tap out...

With Barrett watching, Cena took a chair shot to the ribs and then over the back. He begged toward Barrett for help, but none came. Cena went to town with the chair. Barrett just stood there as Cena celebrated with his chair...

Twill's Two Cents: Well, the majority of WWE's fans want to see Cena get to Barrett with that chair, so having Barrett watch Otunga take a chair whipping is a good way to get there. This show built decently to the pay-per-view, but it was a very lackluster show. Not horrible or great, but somewhere in the middle. I'll share specifics during tonight's Members' Exclusive audio show. Thank you for following along with me.
