12/3 Shore's WWE Smackdown Live Coverage: MVP's last match, Jack Swagger vs. Kofi Kingston for an IC title match, and Kane vs. Edge to determine their match stipulation at TLC
Dec 3, 2010 - 07:00 PM

By Chris Shore

Smackdown on SyFy
Taped on 11/30/10 in Norfolk, Vir.

[Q1] The opening video aired, followed by the pyro, and Micheal Cole, Todd Grisham and Matt Striker welcomed us to Smackdown…Rey Mysterio's music hit and he made his ring entrance. Rey stared at every table, ladder and chair as he made his way to the ring. He cut a promo on Alberto Del Rio costing him a chance at King of the Ring last week. A video recapped Del Rio's interference.

Rey said that everyone knows he doesn't complain. He said he took care of business. A video recapped his interference on Raw. He climbed the ladder and said being a king meant climbing so high you aren't afraid to fall. Whatever that means. He said Del Rio liked riding around in fancy cars, he preferred to fly. He opened his arms like a bird.

Del Rio's music hit and he drove in. He paid a security guard to stand by his car and took a mic. He said the reason Rey climbed ladders was to be on his level, but that wouldn't happen. He asked if Rey rmembered what happened last time they were around chairs. Rey said he wasn't afraid because he had been hurt by men twice as good as Del Rio. He said maybe they should take care of business now.

Del Rio climbed the ladder and said it wasn't going to happen. Mysterio said it was going to happen because Teddy Long booked them one on one for TLC. Del Rio said it still wasn't going to happen because he had no reason to fight Rey. Rey knocked him off the ladder. Del Rio pushed the ladder over and attacked Rey. They battled on the ropes and Rey hit a hurricanranna onto a table and then hit a seated Senton to smash Del Rio through the table…

Shore’s Slant: A decent opening. Del Rio is very good on the mic, and Rey did OK here. His flying comment was a little predictable, but still nicely done. I hope this is the blowoff for this feud. I like both these guys in the ring, but it feels really stale for some reason.

[Q2][C] A video from recorded earlier showed Vickie and Dolph Ziggler walking backstage. Vickie was talking about how happy she was NXT was over and she couldn’t believe her rookie won. She looked up and saw Kaitlyn. She asked what she was doing there and Kaitlyn said Teddy picked her up. Vickie flipped out and screamed at Dolph to get ready for his match. He started to talk to Kaitlyn and she screamed louder…

Ziggler and Drew McIntyre were already in the ring. MVP and Kaval made their ring entrance wearing the same color ring gear. Aww. Cole made fun of them and then again said he would address the Jerry Lawler situation on Monday…

1. Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre defeated MVP and Kaval in 11:30. McIntyre and MVP started. MVP hit a couple of hip tosses and tagged in Kaval. Kaval hit a big kick and tagged MVP back in. McIntyre escaped and tagged Ziggler. MVP hit a drop toe hold and then knocked McIntyre to the floor. He tossed Ziggler to the floor, tagged in Kaval and got on all fours. Kaval hit a springboard plancha off MVP's back…[C]

Back from commercial, Ziggler hit several strikes on MVP in the ring. MVP stormed back and hit several face buster moves on Ziggler. He followed with the Ballin' Elbow and Drew tried to interfere. The ref stepped over to stop it and Ziggler hit a chop block. Ziggler tagged in McIntyre who worked the leg, even pulling the knee brace down to attack the "exposed" knee. It's the little things people. Ziggler tagged back in, but MVP got the hot tag. Kaval bounced all over the ring and Ziggler. He covered, but McIntyre broke it up.

[Q3] MVP cleared McIntyre from the ring, but McIntyre drove MVP into the announce table. Ziggler lifted Kaval in a suplex lift, but Ziggler reversed into what Striker called a Dragon Sleeper (I think) but Kaval was on his back. Vickie distracted the ref and Drew knocked Kaval off. Ziggler followed with the Zig Zag for the win…

Post-match, Kane's pyro popped and he stormed to the ring. He chokeslammed MVP and then Tombstoned Kaval. He grabbed a mic and said the show was stopped until he got Paul Bearer back. Edge appeared on the Titan Tron and said he was right, it needed to end. He said Paul Bearer was in the loading dock. He snatched the tape off and walked away. Bearer screamed for Kane and Kane ran to the back…[C]

Shore’s Slant: Good match here that mean absolutely nothing to any of these men. The only person it didn't hurt was MVP. Of course that's because he doesn't work there anymore. It just seems a waste to have a two segment match that doesn't elevate a soul.

A video recapped Nexus and John Cena from Monday…Backstage, Kane searched for Bearer. Off in the distance, Bearer screamed for Kane and Edge ran away with him. Kane followed and looked around. He looked under a truck and saw some legs and a wheel chair. He went to the end of the truck and saw Bearer in the wheel chair. A huge set of speakers fell on Bearer and it was another mannequin. Bearer screamed again and Edge ran off with him. Kane chased again…[C]

Shore’s Slant: Please kill me. Please

[Q4] Kofi Kingston made his ring entrance and it was announced that this match was for the number one contendership for the Intercontinental Title. Jack Swagger was out next…without the eagle…

2. Kofi Kingston defeated Jack Swagger to become the number one contender for the Intercontinental Championship in 16:00. Swagger took Kofi down quickly and then ducked the next tie up. They finally locked up and held for a while. Kofi hit a standing monkey flip and they faced off again. They rolled around with mat wrestling and Swagger tried for the ankle lock. Kofi escaped and just missed Trouble in Paradise.

Swagger went right at Kofi and beat him down. Kofi ran the ropes on a whip and hit a stiff dropkick for two. He tried to toss Kofi from the ring, but Kofi held on and kicked Swagger in the face twice. He went to the top rope, but Swagger ran up and tossed Kofi to the mat. He covered for a near fall, and Kofi rolled to the floor to recover…[C]

Back from commercial, Swagger covered for a near fall and worked a rest hold. Kofi escaped, but Swagger hit a low block and worked Kofi's leg. Swagger switched to the arm for some reason, and then switched to an abdominal stretch. Kofi escaped and dragged Kofi to the ropes. He went to the floor for some move, but Kofi kicked away and drove Swagger down. Swagger tried to drive Kofi into the steps, but Kofi jumed over and then hit a Superman Punch off the stairs.

[Q5] Both men made it back before the count, and Kofi hit his flipping finisher for a near fall. Swagger went after Kofi in the corner and Kofi hit a hangman followed by a huge crossbody for a great near fall. Kofi setup for Trouble in Paradise. Swagger ducked the first attempt and then grabbed the leg on the second. They battled for the ankle lock and Swagger pushed Kofi to the floor. He tried to go out and get Kofi, but Kofi hit TiP through the ropes and rolled back in for the pinfall victory…

Kane was running through the arena concourse. He saw Edge with Paul Bearer and gave chase. Edge push Bearer down some stairs. Kane ran down the stairs and you guessed it, another mannequin. Oh that crafty Edge! Bearer screamed again and he and Edge were at the top of the stairs…[C]

Shore’s Slant: Wow. That may have been better than last week's. I don’t know, I'll need to take a second look. They told a great story and really put on a show. That's how you do quality TV matches folks.

Chris Masters finished his ring entrance, and then "Dashing" Cody Rhodes made his entrance…

3. "Dashing" Cody Rhodes defeated Chris Masters in 2:55. Swagger immediately went for the face and Rhodes went to the apron. Masters locked on the Masterlock but had to break in the ropes. Cody hit a reverse hangman and went to work on Masters. Cody worked submission holds on the arm. Masters powered back and worked chops in the corner. Cody reversed a whip into the corner into the Beautiful Disaster kick. He followed with the Cross Rhodes for the win…The announce team hyped the main event…[C]

Shore’s Slant: Squash match. That is all. Cody is ready for the big time. OK, so maybe that wasn't all.

[Q6] A video recapped the stupid Edge abduction of Paul Bearer, including tonight…Rosa Mendes made her ring entrance. I am afraid to report that the rope jumping has not helped her face. Team LayCool was out next…

4. Layla defeated Rosa Mendes in 1:30. Layla made fun of Rosa. Rosa slapped Layla. McCool complained on the apron. Rosa pushed Layla into McCool for a rollup for two. Layla hit the Lay Out for the win. Post-match they tried to attack Rosa, but Hornswoggle made the save. LayCool dropped to their knees and danced to make fun of Horny. Beth Phoenix came out and beat up both of them. The Eagle came out and beat up Hornswoggle. Beth hit the Glamslam on the Eagle and Hornswoggle hit the Tadpole Splash…[C]

Shore’s Slant: I hate each and every one of you who cheered for this. I'm just sayin.

[Q7] A video recapped Miz vs. Lawler from Monday…Cole repeated that he would not address it until Monday. The crowd gave a huge "Cole you suck!" chant as he spoke…Kane's pyro popped and he made his ring entrance…[C]

Edge made his entrance without Bearer. Kane was crazy in the ring…

5. Edge defeated Kane to determine their match type at TLC in 13:30. Kane went right at Edge and they played cat and mouse. Edge hit a dropkick on the floor, but Kane grabbed Edge and slammed him into the apron. Kane worked strikes on Edge but missed a kick in the corner and Edge clipped the leg. Kane hit a big punch and then a sitdown dropkick for two. He hit several big elbows and worked a rest hold…Edge escaped and hit a spear that sent Kane to the floor…[C]

[Q8] Back from commercial, Edge was climbing to the top, but Kane swept the legs. Kane tried for a superplex, but Edge blocked and hit head-butts until Kane fell. Edge jumped off, but Kane punched him out of the sky for two. Kane tossed Edge to the floor and followed. Edge turned it around on the floor and hit a clothesline from the steps. He rolled Kane in the ring and hit an awkward shoulder block from the top for two.

Edge hit his reverse DDT for a near fall and the crowd didn’t even react. Kane reversed a whip for a sidewalk slam and he went to the top. He hit his clothesline from the top and called for the Chokeslam, but Edge reversed into the Impaler DDT. Edge setup for a spear, but Kane hit a clothesline. He called for the chokeslam, and then Paul Bearer's voice screamed in the arena.

Kane looked at the big screen and there was Paul Bearer. He screamed for Kane to find him and Kane left the ring. Kane went half way up the ramp and then ran back to the ring. Edge hit a spear as he ran in for the win. Edge quickly walked up the ramp and took a mic. He said their match at TLC would be a TLC match. That's convenient isn’t it? He said since he got what he wanted, he would bring Bearer out.

Edge went to the back and came out with a wheel chair and a guy in it. He walked backwards so we couldn't see the face. He left and Kane yelled Paul happily as he ran up the ramp. Much to Kane's surprise, and no one else's, it wasn't Paul. Kane kicked the guy over and started to attack him. Paul was on the big screen again, still in his wheelchair, but chained to the back of a flatbed. Kane ran to the back to find him. He did, but Edge drove away again as Kane cried out…

Shore’s Slant: I hate this angle. An OK match, but the whole thing is dragged down by the stupidity around it. I have had enough with the wheelchair. I'll have more to say tomorrow on the hitlist. Thanks for reading and I'll see you then.
