11/5 Hermanstyne's WWE Smackdown Live Coverage: Edge vs. Alberto Del Rio, MVP vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre, Team SD reunites to face the Nexus in a ten man tag match
Nov 5, 2010 - 07:00 PM

By Marv Hermanstyne

WWE Friday Night Smackdown on SyFy
Taped in Bridgeport, CT

[Q1] The opening montage opened the show and the three man announce team welcomed us to the show. Edge came out to an standing ovation and no pyro...

Mind of Marv: Why do they always screw up his pyro? That’s what makes his entrance cool...

As Ricardo Rodriguez was getting ready to introduce Del Rio but Edge confronted him. Del Rio came out with a Rolls Royce. Highlights from last week’s triple threat was shown with Edge winning the match.

1. Edge vs. Alberto Del Rio ended in a no-contest in 13:00 Edge used his back to toss Del Rio out of the ring and attacked him outside of the ring. Edge continued the domination to Del Rio by working on his arm. Edge ran into the ringpost and Del Rio threw Edge into the ringpost. Del Rio stomped Edge’s arm...[C]

The show returned with everything we saw five minutes ago. Backstage, Long and Hornswoggle was backstage talking and Vickie was bitching to Teddy Long about Dolph and Long said that Vickie has to face Kaitlyn. Meanwhile, Nexus beat the hell of out Rey backstage. [C]

Mind of Marv: This show is becoming TNAesque with too much going on at once. If Vickie is the SD consultant, why is she asking Long for revenge over a NXT rookie? Damn this show has been garbage for 45 minutes...

The show returned with Del Rio attacking Edge’s arm and Edge countered with a rollup for a nearfall. Del Rio used his knee to weaken Edge’s arm and stretched it out on the ropes. Del Rio continued beating on Edge with kicks and strikes to his arm. Edge came back with some punches but Del Rio kicked Edge and he slid out of the ring. Edge dropkicked Del Rio back out of the ring. Edge toss him back in and went to the top rope but Del Rio caught him started to headbutt him.

[Q2] Edge hit a crossbody to Del Rio for a nearfall. Edge hit instant offense to Del Rio for a nearfall. Del Rio hit a German Suplex to Edge for a nearfall. Edge hit a Impaler DDT for a nearfall. The crowd chanted spear and Edge setup for the spear but Del Rio hit the sick kick for a nearfall. Edge setup for the spear again but the Nexus minus Cena and Barrett came out and attacked both men.

Otunga said the last time they came to SD, they dominated and he said that people are either Nexus or against us. Big Show, Kane, and Rey Mysterio eliminated all of the Nexus. [C]

Mind of Marv: Well the match itself, was OK but forgettable in my eyes because it started slow but picked up after the commerical break. As far as Nexus coming out, yawn...they continue to make this faction look so damn weak, I don’t know where to begin.

The show returned with a replay of what just happened months ago and Teddy Long announced that The Nexus will face Team SD in the main event. Dolph Ziggler came out and highlights from NXT was shown with Dolph cheating on Vickie with Kaitlyn...

2. Dolph Ziggler over JTG in 2:15. Both men brawled to begin the match and Dolph hit a nice kick and neckbreaker for a nearfall. JTG hit a dropkick and missed a crossbody. Dolph hit the Zig Zag and then he picked JTG up after the two count. Dolph applied the sleeper to win the match...

Mind of Marv: That was one hell of a throwaway match. This storyline love triangle with Dolph, Vickie and Kaitlyn does nothing for me. Its time to get the belt of Dolph because he’s just not over as a champion...

[Q3] Kaitlyn came out to comfort Dolph and Vickie came out and smacked the shit out of Kaitlyn. MVP, Cody Rhodes and Drew McInytre will face each other in a triple threat match for number one contendership to the IC title. Nexus vs. Team SD is the main event. [C]

[Q4] Backstage, Otunga and the rest of the Nexus were bragging about invading SD and Otunga said that they beat Rey Mysterio because they can. Otunga talked about Barrett heading to the UK and he was in charge.

Mind of Marv: This is becoming more predictable by the week...Otunga is gone from the Nexus next and video was shown of Rhodes and McIntyre splitting up...

3. MVP defeated Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre in a Triple Threat match to become the number one contender to the Intercontinental Championship in 13:20. MVP attacked both heels and got a nice chant from the crowd. Drew told Cody that they will beat on MVP and they can both settled it amongst themselves later. Both heels attacked MVP until Drew threw Cody out and slammed him on the ramp. [C]

The show returned with Drew attacking MVP and applying an armbar. Cody hit a missle dropkick to Drew and dropped his knees on MVP for a nearfall. Cody hit his instant offense on MVP for a nearfall. Cody applied a body scissors to MVP and MVP countered into an electric chair. Cody got up and knocked Drew back out of the ring.

[Q5] MVP missed the Drive By and Cody botched a neckbreaker for a nearfall. Cody threw Drew into the secruity railing. Cody went to the top rope but Drew pulled his leg. Drew looked sadistic and started to beat the hell out of him in the corner. Drew went for a superplex, but MVP hit a double throw from the middle rope. MVP hit instant offense on both heels and hit Ballin’ Elbow and went for the Playmaker but Dre countered with a clothesline.

Cody hit a flying inziguri to Drew and MVP. MVP threw Cody out and hit the Drive By Kick to Drew or the win...

Mind of Marv: I’m not a fan of Triple Threat matches, but this was an exception because I enjoyed it. The heels look strong in defeat and the they will most likely feud with each other if they are sticking to the storyline. I can easily see Vickie costing Dolph the IC title next week...

Team SD vs. Nexus is still to come...[C]

4. Vickie Guerrero beat Kaitlyn in 3:00. The match started slow as expected and Cole was acting like an ass by calling Kaitlyn a wench. Kaitlyn basically dominated the match and Vickie whined thoughout the match. Vickie tried to slam Kaitlyn but she fell on her for a nearfall. Vickie used the ropes to cover Kaitlyn for the win...

Mind of Marv: I need time to clean the blood from my eyes because they were bleeding throughout this match because it was so terrible. Where’s LayCool? No Layla? This show sucks...

Post match, Vickie yelled and said that Dolph was her man and the Stand Up for WWE campaign was shown. The main event was hyped again...[C] [Q6]

Backstage, Kaval and MVP got the hell beaten out of them by Nexus...

5. Tyler Reks beat Chris Masters in 3:00. Both men exchanged blows in and out of the ring. Reks shoved Masters into the ring post and dominated him. Masters hit an atomic drop and instant offense for a nearfall. Masters applied the Masterlock, but Reks hit his finisher, the Burning Hammer for the win...

Mind of Marv: As I grow my Mike Knox beard for the holidays, I can truly say we were blessed with another forgettable match.

The main event is coming up, next...[C]

[Q7] The Smack of the Night was the opening segment of tonight’s show which included Team SD chasing off the Nexus. Nexus made their entrance and yes, we got Edge’s pyro.

Kofi made his entrance and Kofi will be guest star in the Syfy show, Ghosthunters. Michael Cole went on a rampage to call Tomy Chimel a Fred Flintstone look-a-like, haha.

6. Edge, Kofi Kingston, Alberto Del Rio, Big Show, and World Heavyweight Champion Kane (w/ Paul Bearer) defeated The Nexus in 18:45. Kofi and McGuillicutty started the match, and Kofi started with a dropkick for a nearfall. Big Show tagged in and chopped up McGuillicutty. Edge got in the match and beat on McGuillicutty until Gabriel got in the match and worked on Edge. Edge hit a spinning heel kick to Gabriel for a nearfall.

Husky Harris got in the match and covered Edge for a nearfall. Husky hit a flabby crossbody for a nearfall. Wendy...I mean Slater tagged in the match and stomped out Edge for a nearfall. Edge hit a flapjack to Slater and Show tagged in and attacked Slater. Show and Kofi worked together on Slater.

[Q8] Alberto Del Rio left team SD...[C]

The show returned with Slater and Kofi exchanging blows. Kofi hit a crossbody and he tossed Slater on the Nexus. Kofi hit a crossbody on all of the Nexus. Slater pushed Kofi outside on the announce table for a nearfall. The Nexus worked on Kofi one on one with rapid fire tags. Kofi hit a back body drop and Kane tag himself in. Kane beat on all of the Nexus. Edge speared Kane and Otunga and he covered Otunga for the win.

Mind of Marv: This was a mediocre main event because we seen this shit too many times. Yeah the match had Mcgullicutty and Harris, but I’m tired of these big ass tag matches involving the Nexus. Chances are we will see this again in some form at the Survivor Series. Like I said earlier, Otunga is next to be kicked out of the Nexus. Overall, this was a terrible edition of Smackdown...

Chris Shore will have the Smackdown Hitlist tomorrow and any feedback should be forwarded to dotnetmarv@gmail.com and I'll see you next week.
