10/25 Twilling's WWE Raw Live Coverage: Bragging Rights fallout, the latest with John Cena and Wade Barrett, Daniel Bryan vs. Dolph Ziggler, Toby Keith guest stars
Oct 25, 2010 - 10:00 PM

By Rich Twilling

WWE Raw on the USA Network
Live from Green Bay, Wisconsin

[Q1] The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the stage. Michael Cole and Jerry "The King" Lawler welcomed us to the show and said they were pissed about Smackdown winning the Bragging Rights elimination match last night...

The Nexus came out to the ring, including the new tag team champions, John Cena and David Otunga. The crowd chanted "Cena!" as Wade Barrett took the mic. He introduced "the most dominant group in the history of the WWE."

He introduced each guy, including Cena. Cena did the "You can't see me" gesture. Barrett said they did the unthinkable and buried The Undertaker alive last night...

Twill's Two Cents: Actually, Vince McMahon once beat Taker, with Kane's help, in a Buried Alive match, so it isn't unthinkable at all.

He said they had their reasons for helping Kane and did not explain further. He said he beat Randy Orton later in the night. He asked John Cena to explain it. Cena said he interfered because Orton was about to win, got Orton disqualified, and Barrett won the match .

Barrett told his side and said he was about to win the WWE Championship when Cena interfered. He said Cena was not fired, yet. The GM checked in and said Barrett officially won the match, earning a future title match, but that match would have a special guest referee.

The GM said the winner of Randy Orton vs. any member of Nexus would decide who that special guest referee was going to be. Barrett said it was going to be Cena vs. Orton. David Otunga then took the mic and said Cena should be fired for his actions last night.

Barrett agreed that Cena and Otunga could not coexist as champions, so he booked a tag team championship match between Otunga and Cena vs. Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel...

1. Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater defeated John Cena and David Otunga to win the WWE Tag Team Championships in 2:48. The bell rang and Barrett got on the mic saying The Nexus do not fight amongst themselves, so he ordered Otunga to lay down for the "greater good."

Otunga argued with Barrett and said he did not want to lay down for anyone. He said he had been loyal to Barrett the entire time. Barrett didn't care and Otunga finally obliged. Slater pinned him. The new champions celebrated as Otunga looked pissed in the corner and Cena took off...

Twill's Two Cents: I've been smelling an Otunga babyface turn for awhile now, or this could be a bigger swerve to keep Nexus strong with Cena in the group. I think it is the former. The only problem is that Otunga is not established enough to make the big turn.

[Q2] Orton vs. Cena was hyped... [C]

Footage was shown of the physical altercation between Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler last week on Raw...

Vickie Guerrero and Kaitlyn came out to the stage. "Why is she here?" asked King. My thoughts exactly. She said Ziggler lost last night due to biased officiating to the Raw side. She introduced Ziggler and they al came to the ring...

Bryan made his entrance. CM Punk then made came out to watch...

2. Daniel Bryan defeated Dolph Ziggler (with Vickie Guerrero and Kaitlyn) in a Champion vs. Champion non-title match in 11:03. Punk joined the announce booth and let Cole know that Bryan is a tremendous wrestler. Bryan locked in a surfboard.

Punk said William Regal was the real person that trained Bryan, while Shawn Michaels "just took three thousand dollars from him." Bryan sent Ziggler to the floor and then followed with a very impressive suicide dive... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: I like that Punk is a heel, but he is honest about why he is out there and honest about Bryan's talents. Not a fan of the overly biased heels that make themselves look stupid.

[Q3] Back from commercial, Bryan hit an impressive closeline and a dropkick to a standing Ziggler. Bryan hit a hurricarana from the top rope, but Ziggler held on for a sunset flip pinfall attempt for two. He then hit a superkick for another two count.

Punk humorously had no idea who Kaitlyn was, even though he once announced an episode of NXT. Bryan broke the sleeper hold and applied the LeBell Lock. Vickie pulled Ziggler's foot under the rope, but the referee didn't see it. Ziggler tapped out and the referee called it...

After the match, Vickie yelled and screamed while Punk stood up and applauded for Bryan. Ziggler tried to attack Bryan from behind but Bryan noticed it...

Twill's Two Cents: Another really good match between the two although I don't think I like where this is going. Ziggler is going to get screwed, and Vickie is going to bitch about it. Can't Ziggler just win matches and get over with his talent? By the way, yes, I too would love to see a Bryan vs. Punk program.

Cena vs. Orton was hyped once again... [C]

The Bella Twins welcomed Toby Keith to the show and presented him with a championship belt. Santino Marella came in dressed like a child in a cowboy Halloween costume, complete with a Kurt Angle badge. He sang a song.

Sheamus approached Santino and said Santino was an embarrassment to Team Raw last night. He wanted Santino to prove he wasn't a complete disgrace by challenging him to a match tonight. Santino accepted but wasn't happy about it...

[Q4] John Cena was pissed at Wade Barrett for making him relinquish the WWE Tag Team Championships. Cena ripped off his armband and was about to quit, but Barrett stopped him. He said if Cena beat Orton tonight, he would have an offer that would benefit both of them. He reminded Cena he would be in his corner... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: I figured they would play the "Cena quitting" card, but I thought they would wait a little longer. I'm guessing if Cena wins, Barrett makes him the referee and if Barrett wins the WWE Championship, he will let Cena out of The Nexus. That's my guess.

3. Michelle McCool and Layla defeated Melina and Gail Kim in 1:06. Layla started the match and struggled. Michelle tagged in and kicked Melina in the head before pinning her...

Twill's Two Cents: Wow, two former Women's Champions only lasted a minute with LayCool? Gail couldn't even tag in? Are they concerned at all about this division and creating potential challengers?

The Miz and Alex Riley were prepared to address last night's Team Raw loss at Bragging Rights... [C]

The Miz and Alex Riley came out. A fan had a sign that said, "Hello, I'm Average." However, that fan had The Miz's new shirt on. Dr. Jekyll, meet Mr. Hyde. Miz said he accomplished more in his career than everyone else in the arena could have ever dreamed of.

Miz said he was not a miracle worker, but he was still awesome. He showed the cover of the new Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 video game, in which he was one of the three (Cena, Big Show) on the cover. He said the Raw team should have consisted of seven Mizzes.

[Q5] He blamed his team, Smackdown, and Rey Mysterio. He challenged Rey Mysterio to face him next week on Raw. Eve Torres came out to the ring. Miz said Eve was there to apologize on behalf of the Divas but didn't have to. He said she should apologize for her horrible taste in men, music, and hair extensions...

Twill's Two Cents: Don't forget her dancing!

Eve called Miz a flash in the pan, stupid, frog faced loser. Miz found it amusing that the locker room sent Eve out to convey the message. Riley stood up for Miz and suggested Eve head to the back and see if anyone else on the team wanted "a piece of the captain."

R-Truth came out. Yes, he sang his new song, which may even suck worse than his last one. He still asked the crowd, "What's up!?" Truth said the truth hurts. The GM had something to say. Hopefully he wanted to get a better opponent out there. Nope. The GM said "ding ding ding" and the match started...

Twill's Two Cents: That was disappointing. I was hoping for Miz's next feud or program and if Truth is it, well, that is a step down for Miz. By the way, why in the hell is Eve coming out to cut a promo? Who thought that was a good idea?

4. The Miz (with Alex Riley) defeated R-Truth (with Eve) in 10:24. Truth closelined Miz to the floor and Cole tried to give Miz a pep talk... [C]

Miz scored a nearfall coming back from break. Truth scored a few nearfalls of his own, but Miz finally gained the advantage working on the midsection of Truth. Miz tried a superplex, but Truth pushed him off and then came back into the ring.

[Q6] Miz tried to kick Truth, but he caught the leg, stepped through and hit a Stunner for a two count. On the floor, Eve slapped Riley in the face. He then took a dropkick from Truth. Truth attempted the axe kick, but Miz moved and hit the Skull Crushing Finale for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: Good to see The Miz get the victory, but other than that, what was this supposed to be. Are we getting a program (again) between these two? I wonder when Miz will get out of this holding pattern they have him in.

Cena vs. Orton is tonight's main event... [C]

Toby Keith and the Bella Twins came out to the ring. Keith put over Green Bay and the Green Bay Packers. He said wrestling. Uh oh! He introduced Sheamus. Not all that well, but he did introduce him. He did a better job with Santino. Santino was very reluctant in coming out...

[Q7] 5. Santino Marella defeated Sheamus in 1:42. Sheamus was kicking the crap out of Santino. John Morrison came out. Sheamus missed a Brogue kick in the corner. Santino rolled Sheamus up and scored the three count... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: So, was this supposed to be similar to when Santino beat Umaga for the Intercontinental Championship? Weird show tonight.

Various WWE wrestlers "stood up for WWE" while sitting down. They put over their experiences and love for the company. Cole and King then did the same...

Backstage, Otunga was pissed at Barrett for embarrassing him earlier in the show. Otunga said he might tell the world why they attacked The Undertaker last night. Husky Harris and Michael McGillicutty came in with "N" shirts.

Barrett said The Nexus was now stronger than ever and they had the liberty of ending anyone's career whenever they wanted. Barrett told Otunga to decide right now if he was Nexus "or against us." David said he was Nexus...

Twill's Two Cents: So much for the name change for Husky and McGillicutty. As for Otunga, he could say he is Nexus now and screw them over later, so the "you have to make a decision right now" comment was illogical.

The Undertaker is having a funeral this Friday. Wear a black suit or dress if you have them... [C]

[Q8] Pee Wee Herman will be the guest host next week. I wonder what the secret word is going to be. From that announcement, they brought out John Cena. So, we went from a known masturbator to the guy that makes a bunch of middle aged women masturbate...

6. John Cena (with Wade Barrett) defeated Randy Orton by disqualification in a non-title match in 15:38. Cena was knocked to the floor and Orton followed him out there. Barrett approached Orton from behind but took a right hand to the chin... [C]

Very slow pacing with Cena showing brief signs of life. He picked up the tempo and hit all of his signature spots. He tried the AA, but Orton slithered out and attempted the RKO, but could not hit it. With Orton on the floor, Barrett approached him and Cena knocked Barrett down.

[Overrun] Cena hit the top rope rocker dropper for a very close nearfall. Cena locked in the STF and somehow ended up in an argument with Barrett. Orton hit a dropkick and hangman's DDT. He beat the crap out of the mat setting up for the RKO.

Orton attempted the RKO, but Cena hit the AA. Orton kicked out, however. Moments later, Orton hit the RKO, but Cena rolled to the floor. He set Cena up for the punt kick, but Barrett pulled Cena out of the ring and closelined him. The referee called for the bell...

Orton attacked Barrett, but The Nexus hit the ring. Cena and Orton began to beat them down, but Barrett ordered the group to the floor. He then made the announcement I predicted earlier. Cena will be the referee. If Barrett wins the title, Cena will be let out of The Nexus. If he doesn't, Cena is fired...

Twill's Two Cents: Predictable, but interesting stipulaton for Survivor Series. It's one or the other. Again though, Randy Orton takes a drastic backseat to the Cena vs. Barrett program. I like how Barrett let Cena wrestle the match, risking the fact that he could have lost, instead of just attacking him for the DQ within the first minute.

Thank you for following along with me tonight. I'll have more to say in a Members' Exclusive audio recap of the show.
