10/4 Twilling's WWE Raw Live Coverage: John Cena officially joins The Nexus, Edge must apologize to the anonymous GM, Johnny Knoxville hosts
Oct 4, 2010 - 10:00 PM

By Rich Twilling

WWE Raw on the USA Network
Live from Wichita, Kan.

[Q1] The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the stage. Michael Cole and Jerry "The King" Lawler welcomed us to the show. The Nexus' music hit and the group of five made their way out to the ring. They lined up in the ring and Barrett took the microphone...

Twill's Two Cents: By the way, if you did not see the YouTube video of the kid going apeshit over Cena losing last night, check the main page. It was awesome.

Barrett wanted to address a couple of things before bringing out "the newest member of The Nexus." He identified Husky Harris and Michael McGillicutty as the two men that helped him last night and said neither man was asked to do so and neither man was a part of The Nexus...

Twill's Two Cents: I'm glad Barrett can watch it back and figure it out, while Michael Cole and Matt Striker, two NXT announcers, had no idea who they were.

Barrett wondered out loud what David Otunga was thinking last night with his "plan," but it didn't matter, because tonight was a time for celebration. He introduced John Cena. Cena came out to no music, in his usual gear. He looked very sad. Ahhhhh.

Barrett told Cena he would realize joining The Nexus would be the best thing that could happen to him. Michael Tarver took the mic and blew a gasket at Cena. He then handed Cena an armband. Cena has all kinds of crap on his arms as it is.

He removed his own armband, from his left arm, and Heath Slater pointed at his right arm. No matter though, Cena put the "N" armband on his left arm. Slater said the entire group was there for Cena and gave him an "official statement" to read. Barrett said it was non-negotiable.

"I, John Cena, am now officially a member of The Nexus. Any enemy of The Nexus is an enemy of mine. I hope, as my fans, you all stand behind me, because the fact of the matter is, if you are not Nexus, you are against us."

Barrett then said Cena would have a tag match tonight, choosing any member of Nexus he wants to be his partner, against Mark Henry and Evan Bourne. Cena smiled and got in Tarver's face. Barrett said it was official and that there was no time like the present.

Henry and Bourne came out for the tag match. Footage was shown of The Nexus laying out Evan Bourne last week...

Twill's Two Cents: That was quick. They could have teased that throughout the entire show and even questioned whether or not Cena would oblige. Then, they could have booked and hyped the first Cena match while in Nexus for next week. Wasted opportunity.

[Q2] 1. Mark Henry and Evan Bourne defeated John Cena and Michael Tarver in 8:54. Cena shook hands with Bourne. Tarver got pissed because that was not "The Nexus way." He tagged in and dominated Bourne... [C]

Back from commercial, Henry was in charge of Tarver. Cena liked it. Cena's antics on the apron overshadowed what happened in the ring. Tarver almost tagged Cena but Cena pulled back. Henry did the Andre the Giant walk across Tarver's chest. That's like having a really fat girlfriend.

Tarver hit a nice overhead belly to belly suplex. That one surprised me. He went to tag Cena again, but Cena instead signed autographs for people at ringside. Henry then hit the World's Strongest Slam on Tarver for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: I actually prefer this to having Cena reluctantly do the bidding of the group. The stipulation said he had to be in the group; that does not mean he has to do what the group wants him to do. I still think they rushed this though. By the way, Cena has lost three matches in the past week.

Cena took the mic and said he wanted to make a statement of his own. He said the only thing he was going to do was destroy The Nexus from within. He said he will prove you can be both Nexus and against us. He hit Tarver with the microphone.

He then attacked Tarver on the floor and slammed Tarver onto the steel steps. He did it again. He then whipped Tarver into the ring. He took out Tarver's knee and locked in the STF. Tarver screamed like a little bitch.

Twill's Two Cents: Where exactly is the rest of The Nexus right now?

The GM had something to say and Cole took the podium. The GM reminded Cena he had to join The Nexus if he lost to Wade Barrett. He then said The Nexus followed the direction of Barrett, and Cena had to do the same.

[Q3] If Cena did not take direction from Wade Barrett, the GM would have no alternative but to terminated Cena's WWE contract. "No one man, despite his popularity, is bigger than WWE. In other words Mr. Cena, I will fire you."

Twill's Two Cents: Nice business sense Mr. GM. Let's fire the face of the company. You always have another alternative, jackass, especially if you are in charge.

Cena was shocked, appalled, and distraught. Various Cena fans were shown in the crowd. Cena angrily made his way back up the ramp... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: They obviously had to do something to prolong this thing, because at that rate, it would have been over by the end of the night. Remember, Shawn Michaels went to work for JBL too. Something will come of all of this.

2. Natalya defeated Alicia Fox in :38. Natalya applied the Sharpshooter and Alicia tapped out. That was it. Seriously...

Twill's Two Cents: I want congratulate my friend Josh, who became a father for the first time. Note to Josh's in-laws: Back the f--- off. Let him raise his own child.

Cole hyped Edge apologizing to the Raw GM tonight...

Johnny Knoxville was hyped as the Raw guest host. I'm sure eight to ten people out there are thrilled about that... [C]

Knoxville flirted with Melina and Gail Kim. They pretended to be interested in his movie. He pulled the gigantic high five bit on Zack Ryder. Nice use of Ryder's talent WWE. Damn...

Josh Mathews interviewed John Cena. He said he would not leave the WWE. He saw McGillicutty and Harris and chased after them. He ran into Barrett and The Nexus. They all stood together and Barrett said they had huge plans for Cena... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Did anyone actually think Husky and McGillicutty were not with The Nexus?

[Q4] Atom Smash was in the crowd. Don't worry, nobody else knows who they are either...

Daniel Bryan was already in the ring, and Sheamus made his entrance...

Twill's Two Cents: Oh shit. Bryan is about to be served up and Sheamus should not even be wrestling tonight after last night's HIAC match with Randy Orton.

3. Daniel Bryan defeated Sheamus in a non-title match by disqualification in :29. Sheamus would not stop delivering knees to Bryan's skull and the referee called for the bell...

Twill's Two Cents: That could have been anyone but Bryan and it would have accomplished something. Why not Khali again? Why not Santino? Why not some other guy nobody cares about? Using Bryan in that spot was just stupid.

Edge was shown walking through the backstage area... [C]

Footage aired of Cena's interaction from The Nexus from a few moments ago...

Cole and the computer entered the ring. Well, the computer was already there and Cole came into the ring. He said the GM would only communicate via email through the voice of WWE, Michael Cole. Footage aired of Edge destroying the computer last week...

[Q5] Edge made his entrance. Cole stood on the podium like a douche. Edge reminded us he was feuding with stupidity and that he was not going to apologize. He said Cole has been stupid since 1997. "I'd rather listen to a recording of JR than a live Michael Cole." Nice.

He said he would really have attitude when he becomes WWE Champion. The GM then said the new number one contender for Randy Orton's WWE Championship would be determined tonight in a twenty man battle royal...

Twill's Two Cents: They did not think to advertise this ahead of time?

The GM said Edge would not be in the battle royal because he was officially traded to Smackdown. Edge said he was glad and now he did not have to listen to Cole recite the worst catchphrase in WWE history, "Now I quote."

Cole said he demanded respect as the voice of WWE. The Miz's music hit and he came out with Alex Riley. Miz said Edge would not spear Michael Cole because Cole was a visionary and the one guy that saw Miz's awesomeness before anyone else.

Twill's Two Cents: I was there too. Nice job by Miz here as he and Cole will be linked together for a long period of time.

Edge said Miz was an Edge wannabe and the only thing he was awesome at was tapping out to Daniel Bryan. Miz said he would either be in a WWE Championship match at Bragging Rights, or lead Team Raw to victory.

Edge attacked Alex Riley and hit him with a spear, but Miz hit Edge with the Skull Crushing Finale. He left the ring, grabbed his briefcase, and his Alex, and headed to the back...

Barrett gave Cena a pep talk. Wade said he was looking to get rid of Tarver for awhile now. He then said Cena would help him win the battle royal tonight. Otunga said if Barrett was eliminated, Cena would help another Nexus member win. Barrett did not like that and said Cena would only listen to him... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Good segments. Edge to Smackdown is a very good thing and I hope he takes Zack Ryder with him. Miz is becoming Jericho in that he can take losses and get his heat back the next night. Barrett ordering Cena around is a good thing and nobody seems safe in The Nexus. Tarver did suck, so nobody will miss him.

[Q6] Cole hyped Rey Mysterio vs. Alberto Del Rio for Friday's Smackdown. Good to see the cross promotion, although it is odd storyline wise given the upcoming pay-per-view...

They gave LayCool headset microphones. Mother of ass, they gave LayCool headset microphones...

4. The Bella Twins defeated Michelle McCool and Layla in :59. LayCool called their own match. That's a good idea like a gay orgy for a straight man. One of the Bellas pinned Michelle with a crucifix...

Backstage, Maryse thought Knoxville sent Ted DiBiase the secret messages. Ted and Maryse obviously do not watch the show, because they were taken out by the giant high five too... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Weren't we supposed to figure out this week who was after DiBiase?

Footage aired of R-Truth and Eve defeating DiBiase and Maryse two weeks ago. The Titantron love affair began at that time...

Jackass 3D comes out on October 15th. People actually pay to watch this shit. Seriously. Knoxville came out to the ring. He asked everyone to see his movie and was in a hurry. DiBiase and Maryse made their entrance and Knoxville was still in the ring.

Knoxville apologized and said he was only joking by sending those messages to DiBiase. Ted slapped him and took him down. The Titantron then said, "You are mine." The lighting was gold. You know what is next.

Goldust appeared behind Ted and took him down. He got on the mic and said he did not want Ted. He approached Maryse and said he did not want her either. He fondled the Million Dollar Belt and said, "I want you." ...

Twill's Two Cents: What looked like something of substance for DiBiase turned into that? Really? Maybe the next "live sex celebration," like the one Lita and Edge had, will be between Goldust and that belt.

The battle royal was hyped. Darren Young was in the graphic. I bet he doesn't win it...

[Q7] NXT was hyped for tomorrow night. The narrator said, "Vickie Guerrero will take on Kaitlyn in a wrestling match." I'm glad she clarified it will be a wrestling match... [C]

The Make-A-Wish promo aired. If that doesn't tug at your heart strings, check to see if you have a heartbeat, because you don't...

Cole and King focused on the news of the night, which was Edge being traded to Smackdown and John Cena joining The Nexus...

David Otunga consoled John Cena backstage. He said if Cena ever needed to talk, he was there for him. They then had a candlelight dinner. No, not really...

Highlight night continued as they said Chris Jericho would not be a part of the battle royal tonight because of Randy Orton punting him last week...

Twill's Two Cents: That was the first mention of Orton tonight and they said Jericho would be out "indefinitely."

John Morrison, R-Truth, Vladimir Kozlov, Santino Marella, and Sheamus made their entrances. Cena's music played, but he did not come out. All of The Nexus, including Cena, then came out to their music... [C]

[Q8] 5. Wade Barrett won a twenty man battle royal to become the number one contender for the WWE Championship in 19:36. Sheamus had a couple of eliminations early. Mark Henry did as well. Henry was about to eliminate Barrett, but Cena prevented it.

The Nexus got in Cena's face and Cena eliminated Otunga. Barrett got in Cena's face and Cole explained that all Cena had to do was help Barrett win, but nothing was said about anyone else in the group... [C]

Back from commercial, The Nexus, Sheamus, Miz, Morrison, Truth, and DiBiase remained in the match. Morrison eliminated Slater and Tyson Kidd. Cena stood guard for Barrett and made sure he was not eliminated.

Morrison eliminated Miz with a head scissors. DiBiase and Sheamus attempted to work together to separate Cena from Barrett in the match.

[Overrun] The announcers wondered out loud why the Raw guys did not join forces to go up against The Nexus. The final four were Barrett, Cena, Morrison, and Sheamus. Barrett eliminated Morrison while Cena was working on Sheamus.

Cole said the crowd did not know whether to boo or cheer for Cena. Well Cole, nothing is new there. Cena eliminated Sheamus and then went face to face with Barrett. Barrett ordered Cena to eliminate himself.

Cena contemplated it and after moments of serious staring, he went nose to nose with Barrett. He thought against it and eliminated himself...

Randy Orton's music hit and he came out to the ring. He and Barrett circled each other in the ring. Orton held up the WWE Championship. They looked at each other. The show went off the air...

Twill's Two Cents: Predictable, but in this case, predictable was acceptable. They had to explain why Cena would not just do what he wanted to do and they did that by saying he would be fired. It made perfect sense. Orton vs. Barrett on pay-per-view? The WWE Championship is clearly not the most important thing on Raw, and that should not be the case. I'll have more to say in tonight's Members' Exclusive Raw audio recap.
