9/27 Twilling's WWE Raw Live Coverage: Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho with a future WWE Champion match on the line, The Cutting Edge returns
Sep 27, 2010 - 10:00 PM

By Rich Twilling

WWE Raw on the USA Network
Taped last Monday in Indianapolis, Ind.

[Q1] Footage aired of the beating delivered to Daniel Bryan by The Miz and Alex Riley last week, with Miz's declaration that he would once again become the United States Championship played over the footage...

Twill's Two Cents: Nice that Bryan, Miz, and the U.S. Title led off the show as it was the definite highlight of last week's show.

The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the stage. Michael "Please sit C.M. Punk next to me full time" Cole and Jerry "I don't have a new nickname, so I'll stick with 'The King'" Lawler welcomed us to the show and hyped Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho...

The Miz and Alex Riley made their way to the ring. Miz cut a promo on his way to the ring. He said Daniel Bryan gets embarrassed by The Miz every Monday night. Bryan's music interrupted The Miz's catchphrase.

"That's your big interruption? You and your Superman music? You have to be kidding me!" Before Miz could finish his catchphrase again, John Morrison's music interrupted him. Twice in one night. For a woman in a relationship, twice in one night is, ironically The Miz is out there, awesome...

1. The Miz and Alex Riley defeated Daniel Bryan and John Morrison in 5:12. Morrison overwhelmed Riley early but Riley took control of the match before giving way to Miz. Riley and Miz traded tags and scored a few nearfalls.

Bryan received the hot tag and successfully took Riley out of the match. He hit an impressive snap German suplex and a running dropkick in the corner to Miz. Miz countered a LeBell Lock with the Skull Crushing Finale for the win...

After the match, Miz attacked Bryan again but Bryan fought back. Morrison got involved and everyone started beating on everyone, including Morrison and Bryan on each other. The general manager emailed and booked Bryan vs. Morrison vs. Miz for the U.S. Title at Night of Champions in a triple threat, submissions count anywhere match...

Twill's Two Cents: Odd booking of the match in that with Morrison being the "mystery partner," I figured he would look better in the match, but he didn't get much in offensively at all. The post match stuff made the segment and although the submissions stipulation seems odd, it will definitely stack the deck in Bryan's favor. I also like that Miz doesn't have to take another singles loss to Bryan.

The babyface divas walked past the heel divas backstage... [C]

[Q2] 2. Natalya defeated Maryse, Tamina, the Bella Twins, Eve, Gail Kim, Melina, Jillian, and Alicia Fox in a battle royal to become the number one contender for the Divas Championship in 4:13. LayCool joined the announce booth. Millions of televisions just went to mute.

Eve, Maryse, Jillian, Alicia, and Natalya were the final five. Maryse and Eve went out next. Alicia and Jillian double teamed Natalya. Alicia then eliminated Jillian. Natalya eliminated Alicia with a backdrop from the apron...

Twill's Two Cents: Can Natalya just kick LayCool's asses right now?

Highlights of John Cena promoting 'Legendary' were shown. "John Cena is everywhere!" Well, everywhere but on the big screen. Nice cameo by ESPN's Brian Kenney and NBC's Jimmy Fallon...

The Cutting Edge was hyped and Edge's guest will be the anonymous general manager. Yes, they had a graphic of the computer screen. I would love to see the robot from Rocky IV... [C]

Footage was shown of Eve and R-Truth defeating Maryse and Ted DiBiase last week. The big news was the secret love affair between Ted and the Titantron being exposed...

[Q3] Maryse was pissed because "Ever cost her the battle royal." Ted said he did not care about the battle royal...

Twill's Two Cents: You aren't alone there Teddy.

There was a knock at the door. DiBiase opened the door to a bag of flaming dog shit. Not really. There was a note there, however. Maryse read it. "Next week, you will be mine." Maryse walked away and Ted had a pondering look on his face...

Sheamus made his way to the ring. He told a tale of two princes racing to Ireland with the winner being the first to put his hand on the kingdom and becoming king. The younger prince was behind but he cut off his own hand and threw it toward the kingdom, winning the throne...

Twill's Two Cents: Wow, I bet that guy got so laid.

Sheamus said he was the fiery red hand of the WWE. So, unless you want severed his hand flying by you, don't challenge and start beating him in a race... [C]

Back from commercial, nobody accepted Sheamus's challenge. Not true. The Great Khali came out and fans groaned all over the world...

Cole sent a shot out to Mick Foley and mentioned his new book, "Countdown to Lockdown." Cole mentioned Foley talks about announcing for WWE in the book. Sounded like King took a jab at Foley but I didn't hear it completely...

Twill's Two Cents: Weird to hear WWE mention Foley and his book by name, given that he is currently with TNA.

3. The Great Khali (with Ranjin Singh) defeated Sheamus by disqualification in 1:09. Sheamus beat Khali to the floor and then threw a chair at him, causing the referee to call for the bell. He continued the onslaught...

Twill's Two Cents: Effective in making Sheamus look strong and unpredictable heading into Sunday's pay-per-view.

The Cutting Edge was hyped... [C]

[Q4] Edge made his entrance in his ring gear. I guess he expects the GM to put him in a match. The podium and computer took their place in the ring in preparation for an interview with Edge. They elected to stand.

Edge thanked the computer for coming on the show and said the voice would be disguised to keep his identity a secret. "Why are you such a spineless coward," asked Edge. The GM's voice was horrible and creepy. Edge agreed.

The GM said if his identity was revealed, everything would change. "Your decision making is worse than Lindsay Lohan's on a bender." Nice. Edge compared his feud with the computer to Vince McMahon vs. Steve Austin.

Edge said he would just go ask Chris Jericho. The computer said Jericho was bluffing and Edge had a match tonight. Edge started to leave, but the creepy voice brought out Edge's opponent, John Cena... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: That voice is going to give people nightmares. That was creepy as hell. Edge was funny here poking fun at himself for arguing with a computer, and then continuing to do it. It was also funny that he said he was going to ask Jericho. Why didn't he do that first?

4. John Cena defeated Edge in 7:48. Good back and forth action early on as the announcers put over both Cena joining The Nexus and The Nexus disbanding. Edge scored a close nearfall as the crowd was down the middle cheering for both men.

[Q5] Cena came back and tried to set up a top rope Attitude Adjustment. Edge slipped out of it and hit a spear moments later. He scored the three count but Cena's foot was under the ropes. We know where this is going...

The GM had something to say. That horrid voice was back. He showed Edge the replay of Cena's foot and ordered the match to be restarted. Edge went for another spear but Cena locked in the STF. Edge fought but was forced to tap out...

Twill's Two Cents: Fun match between two old rivals. Of course, the result and the match itself took a back seat to Edge vs. Creepy Computer GM. Edge approached the computer. The computer said, "Don't look at me like that."

Edge was warned, but he pushed the podium over. He then broke the computer in half and beat on it with a chair. Finally, the end of the anonymous general manager. Wait? It's not? Oh, I forgot there were Apple stores out there...

Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho was hyped... [C]

In case you missed, Edge destroyed the GM computer and apparently, computers do feel pain...

The Nexus made their entrance and if there is any interference, Cena will automatically win Sunday's match...

[Q6] 5. Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel (with Wade Barrett, Michael Tarver, and David Otunga) defeated Mark Henry and Evan Bourne in 3:18. Bourne took an early beating but tagged in Henry, who had his way with both Gabriel and Slater.

He set up Bourne for the Shooting Star Press, but Slater broke it up. Gabriel then went for the 450, but Bourne moved out of the way. Bourne then hit the Air Bourne. Slater broke up the pinfall and actually pushed Gabriel into a pinning position, giving his team the win...

Henry was disposed of on the floor. Bourne took one of the original beatings we used to get from The Nexus all of the time. Wade Barrett asked nicely for a mic. Actually, he was pretty rude about it.

"You're either Nexus or against us. After Hell in a Cell, John Cena will become property of The Nexus." He said they didn't need Cena, but they had a plan for him. Otunga said they were invading Smackdown. He warned the Smackdown roster. He gave the mic to Tarver.

Tarver said they were the bad news and nobody could stop them. Cole said they would be marking their territory on Smackdown this Friday. I guess that means they are going to pee all over the place. Smackdown should put down a bunch of those pet pads...

Twill's Two Cents: Obviously, that was meant to make Barrett and Nexus look strong, but it failed to put across that message. They scored a fluky win over Henry and Bourne. Then they beat down Bourne. Not the best we've seen from The Nexus.

Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre made their way through the backstage area. Cody stopped to look into a mirror... [C]

6. Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre defeated The Hart Dynasty (with Natalya) to retain the Tag Team Championships in 3:11. Cody hit the "Beautiful Disaster" kick and tagged in Drew. Cole said Tyson Kidd had some charisma but David Hart Smith needed a charisma transplant. Yes, that's true.

[Q7] Kidd hit a reverse spin kick and was able to tag in Smith. He hit a nice suplex on Cody but Drew broke up the pinfall. Smith kept control and Kidd was trying to hit the springboard Hart Attack, but Drew thwarted it again. Cody hit the Cross Rhodes on Smith for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: Well, I guess it is going to be a long time before the Harts get another title shot. Speaking of Thyme, does anyone out there grow and dry their own herbs? I know someone that does and I suggest it. Okay, that was random. It's the tag titles, so my mind was on cooking. Sue me.

Smith yelled at Kidd on the floor as Natalya tried to calm them down. Smith got pissed and walked away. Hopefully he never turns back and Kidd can start a singles career...

Chris Jericho and Randy Orton were shown split screen style backstage... [C]

Cena was shown backstage. R-Truth approached him and they man hugged. Truth said he always had Cena's back. Cena said he was the man to go to and mentioned wins and losses. Shot at Jericho? Cena said he gets crunk and would do so on Smackdown this Friday...

Twill's Two Cents: Nice setup for Smackdown this Friday as both Cena and The Nexus will be there. By the way, getting crunk does not mean smoking crack while drinking. Good thing too as that would not be very PG.

Cole and King ran down the current Hell in a Cell card...

Jericho made his entrance and they gave him pyro. He hasn't had pyro in a long ass time. Jericho said he would win tonight and go onto become the WWE Champion. He put over Randy Orton as a viper. He then called himself a "viper killer."

Jericho ran down a list of current and future Hall of Famers he has beaten. He was still listing wrestlers as the show went to break... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: How awesome would it be if he was still naming names coming back from the break? Memories of the "Man of 1,004 holds" promo.

Nice. He was still going and named some old WCW competitors, followed by some Japanese guys. He named Kevin Nash three times by naming his various gimmicks. I even heard a "Villano I, II, III, and IV" in there. Classic...

7. Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho in a non-title match ended in a no contest in 13:17.Or Jericho violently punched and kicked Orton early on. Orton fought back with right hands of his own before closelining Jericho to the floor. Orton followed but Jericho turned the tides... [C]

Back from commercial, Orton was back on top, stomping Jericho multiple times. Sheamus walked out to the stage, presumably to get a closer look, but in reality, watching on a HD monitor backstage would be the best view.

Jericho began working on Orton's upper back and neck, but he missed a couple of moves. Orton tried the RKO, but Jericho countered with a backslide for a two count. He followed with a dropkick for another two count.

Orton fought back but took another dropkick. Jericho continued to score nearfalls. Cole mentioned Foley again by talking about his infamous HIAC match with Undertaker. Closelines and a snap powerslam by Orton. Jericho countered a RKO and hit a lionsault for a two count.

[Overrun] Jericho countered Orton's rope hanging DDT with the Walls of Jericho. Orton didn't tap out. I wonder if he would tap out if he was tickled mercilessly. Orton slithered out and hit his DDT. He set up for the RKO but Sheamus hit the ring. The referee called for the bell...

Orton set Sheamus up for the punt kick, but Jericho intercepted Orton with the Codebreaker. He then grabbed a chair. Jericho swung the chair as if Orton was ten feet tall and Orton hit the RKO. The crowd called for and received a punt kick by Orton to Jericho.

Twill's Two Cents: Yay! Kids can cheer for Orton, a babyface, putting out Jericho, a heel, by kicking him in the head. "Let's try this at school tomorrow guys!"

Sheamus and Orton stared each other down as they brought out a stretcher for Jericho. Sheamus looked very concerned for his own future well-being as Orton marveled at what he had just did...

Twill's Two Cents: Actually, a very good segment. Sure, Orton could punt kick a guy in the mid-card, but that wouldn't mean as much. Jericho established himself as a title contender in this match, and then he was taken out (and will be out for awhile). Sheamus's facials were well done. Nice way to set up a very dangerous Orton vs. Sheamus for Sunday, and gives Jericho a built in feud with Orton when he comes back.
