ECW on the SciFi Network
Taped in Grand Rapids, MI
[Q1] The SciFi voiceover guy said some other show was coming on next. Luckily he was wrong because I do not want to do a live report of whatever show that was. Anyway, a video aired showcasing Colin Delaney’s improbable rise to becoming an official member of the ECW roster…
Live backstage, Armando Estrada told Colin Delaney he was lucky and he would become a bigger target now than he ever was before. Armando handed Colin the contract and he was cheesing big time as he signed it. Estrada then booked a match between Delaney and Mike Knox…
Twill’s Two Cents: All contract signings should be short and sweet like that.
The opening video aired, fireworks went off, and Mike Adamle welcomed us to the show in less than spectacular fashion. Someone should turn up his microphone…
1. The Miz defeated C.M. Punk in 5:38. Turnabout is fair play and Miz sent Morrison to the back, just like Morrison did to him last week. Punk gave Miz a chain wrestling clinic early on. Adamle said, “Punk doing a good job riding the Miz.” Nice.
Miz gained the advantage and hit multiple elbows to Punk’s shoulders. Adamle called a chinlock! Baby steps Mike, nice job. Miz showed a very aggressive style. Miz hit a huge closeline on Punk in the corner. He followed that up by locking a modified camel clutch, all the while hitting Punk’s face with forearms.
Miz went for covers often. Punk hit a snap powerslam for a nearfall at 4:00. Punk landed some high impact kicks. He attempted a bulldog but Miz countered. After an irish whip combination, Punk went for the GTS, but Miz countered it with the Reality Check for the clean victory…
Twill’s Two Cents: You are probably expecting me to write that I think this finish was bad booking. I disagree. I have always preferred clean wins, especially by heels. It is pretty clear Punk is not cashing in the briefcase anytime soon, so he will win high profile matches before he does. However, they can use this win to elevate Miz. Not only do I not have a problem with it; I sort of liked it.
After the match, Morrison came out and congratulated Miz. Adamle plugged Kane vs. John Morrison. Backstage, Michelle McCool, Kelly Kelly, and Cherry were on their way to the ring. Adamle said he had “diva feva.”… [C]
[Q2] 2. Michelle McCool, Kelly Kelly, and Cherry defeated Layla, Victoria, and Natalya in 3:46. The heels almost engaged in a three way kiss before the match.
Natalya and Michelle started the match. After an awkward exchange, Natalya gained the advantage and tagged in Victoria. Michelle, despite being in a wristlock, backflipped off the top rope, hit an armdrag and a dropkick. Cherry tagged in.
Adamle made reference to Jim Neidhart playing for the Oakland Raiders. Victoria hit a nice flipping leg drop over the rope onto Cherry. She attempted the shimmy backflip, but Cherry put her knees up.
Victoria knocked Kelly off the apron; she tried to do the same to Michelle but missed. The distraction allowed Cherry to roll up Victoria for the win…
Twill’s Two Cents: Good thing they did not need to work Kelly or Layla into the match because that lasted too long as it was. Michelle and Kelly looked hot though. Natalya did not. She can work though.
Backstage, Lena Yada interviewed Shelton Benjamin. Shelton said Kofi Kingston has been lucky. Kofi approached Shelton and wished him luck. Shelton said, “you better get out of my interview time.” I do not know why, but that made me laugh. Kofi charged Shelton into the steel rolling door… [C]
Back from commercial, Adamle asked The Tazz something about Raw last night. He literally could not get his question out and then randomly said, “John Cena.” Luckily, Tazz interrupted him and introduced a video package featuring Triple H vs. Randy Orton…
[Q3] Backstage, Colin Delaney taped himself up in preparation for his match. Adamle introduced a video of Colin’s journey, culminating in winning a contract last week by defeating Armando Estrada… [C]
3. Mike Knox defeated Colin Delaney in :55 Delaney has entrance music now. It is generic, but I guess it is better than nothing. It is also better than Randy Orton’s old theme (inside joke).
Early on, Knox simply beat the crap out of Delaney. He hit some power moves and then hit his finisher for the win. After the match, Armando Estrada came out. He said he just signed himself to a very lucrative deal and he is the newest member of the active ECW roster. He then told the referee to ring the bell…
4. Armando Estrada defeated Colin Delaney in :30. Estrada mounted Delaney and punched him. He then picked him up and hit a delayed reverse suplex slam for the victory…
Twill’s Two Cents: Estrada is gold. He is great on the mic. He has a great look. He has sweet music. Did anyone else laugh when he said he signed himself to a huge contract, like he just realized now he could do that? I know Colin is supposed to be like a Mikey Whipwreck like character, but at least Mikey had some size to him. It is going to take some doing to make Colin a legitimate threat.
A backstage shot of Kane standing there took us to commercial… [C]
[Q4] 5. John Morrison (with The Miz) defeated Kane in a non-title match in 15:09. Tazz plugged the Dirt Sheet on WWE.com. I agree with Jason that they should make it a TV segment. Second that for Santino’s Casa.
Morrison used his quickness early and kicked at Kane’s legs. Kane displayed his power every time he was able to catch Morrison. He scored the first nearfall at :45.
Kane held Morrison up by the throat, back to back. Nasty spot. After hitting an elbow, Kane sat Morrison up and locked in a rear chinlock. Morrison fought out of it and paid attention to Kane’s leg.
Kane missed closelines in the corner twice and Morrison continued to kick Kane’s legs. Miz distracted Kane, which prompted Punk to come out… [C]
Back from commercial, Kane hit a delayed vertical suplex. Adamle pointed out this being a non-title match. Kane hit a reverse neckbreaker and scored a nearfall. He was relentless in locking in the rear chinlock again.
Kane kept favoring his leg. Morrison reversed a backdrop attempt by kicking Kane and then dropkicking him into the corner. Kane fought Morrison off, but Morrison took out the leg, this time dropping Kane to the mat.
Morrison locked in a single leg lock as Punk looked on with concern. Kane made it to his feet, but Morrison hit a dropkick to the bad leg. He then dragged Kane to the corner and wrapped Kane’s leg around the post.
Adamle said Morrison does not usually show aggression like this, which was true about a week ago, but lately, Morrison has changed his style to become very physical. Morrison mounted Kane and the two traded shots.
Morrison locked in a standing single leg lock. Kane fought him off and stood up gingerly. Kane began his comeback with punches and corner closelines. He hit a side slam for a nearfall.
[Overrun] Kane went to the top and hit the flying closeline. He set up for the chokeslam, but Miz tried to enter the ring. Punk cut him off and the referee was distracted. Morrison hit Kane with the belt and then hit the springboard crescent kick for the win…
After the match, Miz and Morrison continued to beat on Kane. Punk came in for the save, but the numbers were too much for him. The tag team champions left their PPV opponents laying in the middle of the ring. They celebrated with their titles as the show went off the air…
Twill’s Two Cents: That was a decent match. I love Morrison’s new style and he has actually won me over. The beating at the end of the match made Miz and Morrison look very good. They are stars. One has to wonder if this means Kane and Punk will win the titles, but I do not see that happening. This was a largely forgettable show although they did some things to move forward and create new stars. Plus, Mike Adamle was much better tonight. He should have done this before, but at least he prepared for tonight and it showed.
