ECW on Sci-Fi Network
Taped in Grand Rapids, Mich.
[Q1] Highlights aired from last week of Colin Delaney beating Armando Estrada to earn an ECW contract... Backstage, Armando asked Colin if he knew how lucky he was to beat him last week. He said he was an even bigger target now that he won the match. He presented Colin with his contract and asked him if he had second thoughts. Colin smiled and signed the contract. "Congratulations, amigo, I'm going to prove my point," Estrada said. He booked Delaney in a match against Mike Knox...
Powell's POV: Well, at least they gave him the contract. I figured Armando would screw with him and give him a contract to fetch Mike Adamle's bottled water or something...
The opening video aired... Speak of the devil, Adamle and Tazz introduced the show at ringside...
1. The Miz defeated C.M. Punk in 5:40. Adamle talked about some type of mythical beating role, which he compared to the ten run rule in youth baseball. Tazz laughed it off. Late in the match, Punk went for the GTS, but Miz slipped out and hit the Reality Check for the win. Afterward, Morrison walked onto the stage and hugged Miz...
Powell's POV: Wow, I didn't see that one coming. I'm sure there will be plenty of complaints, but I'm actually becoming numb to Punk's losses. I'm all for making Miz and Morrison strong, though, especially after they lost on Raw last week. Still, a very surprising finish given that Punk is carrying the Money in the Bank briefcase.
A shot aired of Cherry, Michelle McCool, and Kelly Kelly walking backstage. Adamle said he had a case of "Diva Feva.'" Tazz responded by asking, "What did you just say?"... [C]
[Q2] 2. Kelly Kelly and Michelle McCool and Cherry defeated Victoria and Natalya and Layla in 3:45. There were some good spots when Michelle and Victoria were in the ring together. At one point, Adamle said, "Have mercy," for like the third time tonight. He's desperate to develop a catchphrase. In the end, Cherry rolled up a distracted Victoria for the surprise win...
Backstage, Lena Yada interviewed Shelton Benjamin, who said Kofi Kingston "walks around with a horseshoe stuck where the sun don't shine and I'm going to pull it out." No, really, that's what he said. Kofi must like having horseshoes in his ass because he showed up and confronted Shelton. Benjamin shoved Kofi, who responded with a weird looking shoulder tackle that left Benjamin lying on the ground... [C]
[Q3] At ringside, Adamle tripped over his words while trying to discuss the Raw ending. Tazz took over for him and then they set up a really long WWE Judgment Day pay-per-view video that focussed on Triple H vs. Randy Orton... A backstage shot showed Colin preparing for his match... A video recapped Colin's history in ECW...
3. Mike Knox squashed Colin Delaney in 1:00. Colin finally got his entrance music. Tazz plugged that Judgment Day is sponsored by Rambo. Adamle pondered whether Rambo had ever run into Mike Knox. The match was all Knox, who finished off Delaney with his finisher. Afterward, Armando walked out and announced that he had just signed himself to a lucrative wrestling contract. He kicked Colin and demanded that the referee ring the bell to start their match...
4. Armando Estrada defeated Colin Delaney in 0:30. Adamle referred to Armando as "the calculating Cuban." Quick squash. Delaney was bleeding from the nose after the match... [C]
Powell's POV: Wow, the ECW roster now has 16 male wrestlers. The crowd chanted, "You suck," at Armando. I think they wanted to cheer Colin tonight, but they were given no reason to do so.
[Q4] Adamle said we'll find out next week whether Kofi Kingston can stay undefeated. Yes, he used the "Jamaican Me Crazy" line... Tazz hyped "The Dirt Sheet" and said a new episode airs every Saturday on WWE.com. He said he loved it...
Powell's POV: Should the happy go lucky Tazz character like he heel WWE website show? It's not a big deal, but it just seemed strange that he would endorse it.
5. John Morrison (w/The Miz) defeated Kane in a non-title match in 16:00. Adamle was out to prove that he watched Raw last night because he asked Tazz if Morrison would have the same strategy as Mr. Kennedy had during his match against Snitsky. Miz was a nuisance to Kane early on, so Punk walked to ringside to stand in the corner of his Judgment Day partner just before the break. [C] Morrison worked over the left knee injury that Kane has been selling ever since Chavo attacked it with a chair the week before Backlash.
[Overrun] Tazz said it was impossible to explain the pain a knee injury causes to someone who hasn't suffered a knee injury. Adamle, in what had to be a fed line from Vince McMahon, said Kane was like the one-legged man from "The Fugitive." Of course, the villain of the show/movie was a one-armed mystery man. Well, I'm sure Vince laughed and his cronies pretended to chuckle.
Kane motioned for the chokeslam, which caused Miz to jump onto the ring apron. Punk pulled him down, but Miz fought back and rammed Punk into the ring steps. Back inside the ring, Kane kicked Morrison and then became distracted by the commotion at ringside. Meanwhile, Morrison grabbed a title belt, smacked Kane with it behind the ref's back, and made the scored the surprise pinfall. After the match, the heels teamed up on Kane. Punk ran in, but the heels quickly beat him down. The heels left the babyfaces lying to close the show...
Powell's POV: Wow, that was the hardest push Miz and Morrison have ever received. It makes them look really strong headed into their pay-per-view match against Kane and Punk. At the same time, it didn't exactly make Kane and Punk look strong. Honestly, though, I'm cool with it. Miz and Morrison should be pushed as more than a lucky heel comedy team.
