9/14 Twilling's WWE NXT Live Coverage: The Rookies participate in two more challenges as they all strive to earn immunity from the first elimination
Sep 14, 2010 - 09:00 PM

By Rich Twilling

WWE NXT on the Syfy Network
Taped earlier tonight in Detroit, Mich.

[Q1] The opening video aired right away. No fireworks. Michael Cole and Josh Mathews welcomed us to the show. He said the first elimination would take place in three weeks...

Twill's Two Cents: Wait just a minute. Three weeks from now would be week five and last week, they said the first elimination would take place in week four. By the way, Jason Powell and Marv Hermanstyne are discussing the show in the Dot Net Member's Forum. Head over there to interact with them.

Vickie Guerrero did her "Excuse me!" line and addressed the crowd. She said Kaitlyn embarrassed her last week, so she invited Dolph Ziggler to the show. Ziggler, Vickie, and Kaitlyn headed to the ring. Primo and A.J. came to the ring for a mixed tag team match...

1. Dolph Ziggler and Kaitlyn (with Vickie Guerrero) defeated Primo and A.J. in 2:49. After some back and forth between Primo and Ziggler, Ziggler scored the pinfall victory. After the match, Vickie looked distraught because Dolph and Kaitlyn were celebrating together...

A video package aired for Maxine, Alicia Fox's Rookie...

Mathews hyped a "Joke Off," in which he said would "tickle our funny bone." Cole quipped, "That was cute." ... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: If one of them simply said, "NXT season three," they would win the Joke Off hands down.

Matt Striker stood in the ring with Kaitlyn and A.J. He introduced the remaining Rookies. It's hilarious to see Goldust sitting all normally at the top of the stage...

[Q2] In explaining the competition, Striker tried to say, "whichever Diva," but it came out "whicheva Diva." Yes, I'm stretching for entertainment value.

A.J.'s joke completely bombed and the crowd let her know it. Aksana told her joke in her native Lithuanian. She translated. "What's the difference between a wife and a girlfriend? 25 pounds." Seriously, what the f---?

Jamie was actually pretty creative. She did a knock knock joke with the crowd. When it came to the crowd saying, "Aksana Who?" and she said, "Exactly." Naomi asked, "What do you call a dog without legs? It doesn't matter because it isn't coming to you."

Maxine said she had five jokes in the ring with her. She called A.J. a girl scout, gave her twenty bucks, and told her to go the back and get her some Thin Mints. They brawled and it looked relatively good.

Kaitlyn said it was her turn to pick on A.J. She did a knock knock joke with her. It was the "KGB" one that Dwight did on "The Office." Kaitlyn couldn't get out the punchline and A.J. attacked her too. "Get A.J. a sedative," screamed Cole.

Jamie won the competition because the crowd liked her best. Cole started pounding on a gong...

Twill's Two Cents: Why in the hell is there a gong at the announce table? I wonder if they brought in a gong guy or just found one at Walmart or something.

Cole said every wannabe Diva should be gonged, the fans who purchased tickets should be gonged, and the entire show, with the exception of him and Mathews, should be gonged...

Twill's Two Cents: I'm with Cole on this. Not sure if listening to Cole and Mathews banter for an hour would be any good, but it couldn't be worse than this. I'm guessing this is the beginning of the show going away in a few weeks.

Aksana vs. Jamie was hyped... [C]

Dot Net reader Jason Palermo just emailed me and said Naomi picked up the $20 bill and hid it in her pants. Awesome! That girl is just running away with this thing...

The Bellas made their entrance and Jamie was already in the ring. Goldust did the same, and Aksana was already in the ring as well...

[Q3] 2. Jamie (with The Bella Twins) defeated Aksana (with Goldust) in 2:04 Surprisingly good chain wrestling early on with Jamie working on the arm of Aksana. Aksana fought back and hit a couple of impressive closelines. She missed a charge into the corner and Jamie school-girled her for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: That wasn't bad at all. It was very basic and methodical, but they did not embarrass themselves at all out there. Pleasantly surprised here.

The Naomi video package aired. She used to be a "dunking dancer" with the Orlando Magic. She's a great athlete...

The second competition of the night will be an obstacle course... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: I wonder if anyone will have an "Eli Cottonwood" moment.

In hyping Night of Champions, a history piece chronicling the past between Kane and The Undertaker was shown. There was an Eric Bischoff sighting on WWE TV as they showed Kane chokeslamming him...

Twill's Two Cents: That was a damn good video package that put over the history between the two, their personal vendetta, and (gasp!) the World Heavyweight Championship. We don't see videos like these much anymore but WWE used to do an awesome job on them.

The announcers ran through the rest of the Night of Champions card. Also, you can go to WWE.com tomorrow to watch a replay of this show...

Twill's Two Cents: Why in the blue hell would anyone want to do that?

Footage from earlier, when Dolph and Kaitlyn celebrated, was shown. Backstage, they congratulated each other. Vickie came up and sent Kaitlyn packing. She said if he pulled that again, he would "lose all of this (she shook her hips and body)." ...

Twill's Two Cents: That should be incentive for Dolph to chase Kaitlyn down and plant a huge kiss on her.

The obstacle course was shown. Cole continued to verbally crap on the show... [C]

[Q4] This obstacle course is the same as it was for the season two crew, but the cart to push at the end was smaller. Kaitlyn was about to being, but Vickie's fat ass mouth came out to interrupt the festivities.

She said Kaitlyn embarrassed her last week. She then said she would run the obstacle course herself. Wow. "How much time do we have left?" asked Josh. "This couldn't end soon enough," responded Cole. "What Cole said," replied Rich Twilling.

Vickie actually ran the course and frankly, she did a pretty nice job until she tripped after running the balance beam. She then absolutely freaked out. She cried and screamed. Gee, I see what Ziggler sees in her. She ran off... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: I give her credit for doing what she did and looking decent in doing so. I cannot believe how long this show lasts.

Looks like we are getting an overrun tonight...

[Overrun] Kaitlyn went first and finished in 36.5 seconds. Aksana was next and finished in 37.2 seconds. A.J. was next. She finished way behind the pace. The referee screwed her (not literally) by not accepting a few of her pushups.

Maxine started off very well but fell off of the balance beam. Kaitlyn still had the time to beat. Cole said, "I called Cena vs. Orton last night and now I'm sitting around for this." Classic. Jamie nearly beat Kaitlyn's time but barely missed out.

Naomi brought up the rear and had trouble with the tires and the referee made her do all of her pushups over again. Um, why didn't he stop her after the first bad one instead of making her do all of them crappy? Vickie hugged Kaitlyn after the contest.

Cole hit the gong again. "This whole show is ridiculous. It violates my journalistic integrity. I was a war correspondent! I am done. I am done with this show." Cole took off and received the biggest pop of the night...

Twill's Two Cents: Well, Cole is out and again, I think it is going to play into the fact that as of now, it is not scheduled to be broadcast outside of Canada beyond the September 28th broadcast. Thank you for following along with me tonight.
