9/7 Twilling's WWE NXT Live Coverage: All Divas roster to debut in the third season premiere; who will Vickie Guerrero replace Aloisia with?
Sep 7, 2010 - 09:00 PM |
By Rich Twilling
WWE NXT on the Syfy Network
Taped earlier tonight in Baltimore, MD
[Q1] A new opening video aired with a more female friendly song that "Wild and Young." Michael Cole and Josh Mathews welcomed us to the show. Matt Striker introduced the Pros and Rookies. Kelly Kelly introduced her Rookie, Naomi.
The Bella Twins introduced Jamie, who did some ring announcing during season two. Primo introduced his Rookie, A.J. Cole and Mathews described the girls like they were on a dating website. "She enjoys (insert random crap here)."
Alicia Fox and Maxine headed to the ring next. Maxine should be a good fit for Alicia. Goldust introduced Aksana. This could be a fun pairing. Vickie Guerrero brought up the rear. She said she fired Aloisia...
Twill's Two Cents: Vickie is The Miz of this season. She gets the most reaction from the crowd and Cole will kiss her ass.
Vickie's new Rookie is Kaitlyn. Everyone stood in the ring and did that diva search dance. Striker is smitten with Kaitlyn. Striker said each diva would get a chance to introduce themselves...
Kaitlyn went first and sounded like she was trying to cut a babyface promo, but she came more across as a cocky heel. She played the "everything girl," where she was the girl next door and the girl that gave guys a wedgie. Vickie stepped in and made her do it again.
Aksana did her best Maryse impression. She called herself a billion dollar baby from Lithuania. She started speaking her native tongue, but it didn't matter because her English was just as difficult to understand.
Maxine stepped up and immediately had mic presence. She gave an old school Kurt Angle type promo. She said she had three different senses and was a triple threat in a skirt. She said the only position for her was at the top.
A.J. made everyone want to vomit because she was too sweet (and not in a good way). Jamie stepped up and started to introduce the next match. Just kidding. He did kiss WWE ass during her promo. She instructed everyone to look at her. I'd rather not, thank you.
Naomi was the last one to speak. She reminded me of that black chick from the American Gladiators from way back in the day. She said her actions would speak for her. Solid promo by Naomi, who also has the most unique look... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: Maxine had the most presence and Naomi had the most charisma. The rest of them seemed to be a dime a dozen and I hate to say it, but none of them seemed to have the 'look' most of the WWE Divas have. Maybe that's a good thing. Too early to tell.
[Q2] It is time for the first Rookie challenge. The Rookie who wins the most challenges between now and the first elimination, in week four (WEEK FOUR?!?), will be immune...
Twill's Two Cents: Week four? What in the hell do they plan to do for three weeks? What if three Rookies all win one competition?
The first contest is a dance-off. Striker brought Cole into the ring to be the dance partner. Cole was wearing leg warmers. Striker called him "Jennifer Beal." Surprising Striker got a name wrong, because it is Jennifer Beals.
Cole is actually a ballroom dancer. He danced with Naomi and Jamie and was sent to the sidelines. Tony Chimmel took his place. Riveting. A.J. was the first one to do a striptease type of dance. Maxine did the same and pretended to strip, but she didn't get very far. Good thing.
Aksana and Kaitlyn danced with Mathews. Josh and Aksana did a very tame ballroom dance. Kaitlyn and Josh did the robot. Cole called him a nerd. The crowd chose their winner. Naomi and A.J. received nice reactions.
Twill's Two Cents: That wasn't kissing contest bad, but it was diva contest bad, which is what this competition is going to amount to. Ugh.
[Q3] Cole got booed. Striker said, "Not as an announcer, as a dancer." Funny. Naomi won the contest and Cole got off on it. There is actually going to be a match. Kelly Kelly and Naomi vs. Alicia Fox and Maxine and it will be on the other side of the break... [C]
1. Kelly Kelly and Naomi defeated Alicia Fox and Maxine in 3:53. I was taking luggage to the car, so I missed the match. My fault. When I got back, Chimmel announced Kelly and Naomi as the winners, so good for them...
There is yet another challenge for tonight's show and it is a capture the flag race... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: I feel like this is Field Day at my old elementary school.
The first part of the race was to see who could grab one of five flags. Jamie could not. She was eliminated. This continued...
[Q4] Naomi and Maxine were the last two. Naomi grabbed the last flag in the ring. So, she won her match and both competitions. She just kicked the crap out of the other divas on the show. Can they just name her the winner now?
She tried to cut a promo afterward and said she was a better athlete than the other girls. The crowd likes this girl. Goldust and Aksana vs. Primo and A.J. in a mixed tag will close out the show... [C]
Cole and Mathews plugged Cena's movie, "Legendary." Mathews said, "Only a select number of theatres have the privilege of being able to show the movie." Um, yeah, What he meant to say was, "This movie pretty much blows and it was a stretch to get it into any theatre at all." ...
Cole and Mathews rand down the current card for the Night of Champions pay-per-view...
Jamie was the subject of the first longer video package introducing each Rookie. She's buff. She is well spoken...
Goldust and Aksana made their entrance... [C]
[Overrun] 2. Primo and A.J. defeated Goldust and Aksana in 1:44. Why do they do all of this crap during the show and then start a match in the overrun? Aggressive offense by Aksana in scoring a couple of nearfalls. Botched spot, but they went right back to it and A.J. hit a bulldog for the win...
Twill's Two Cents: Well, that was probably the in ring peak of the show.
Vickie and Kaitlyn came to the ring. Vickie wanted her to give her intro again. Primo said it was A.J.'s moment. A.J. told Vickie to leave. Vickie told Kaitlyn to get A.J. A.J. whipped Kaitlyn into Vickie. Vickie bitched and moaned...
Twill's Two Cents: Vickie is no Miz, but she is going to be all over this show, and that is not a good thing. Imagine a Vickie Guerrero type character who is actually hot though? Kaitlyn is sweet and all of that now, but I wonder if a transformation is in the works.
That was, well, there. I wasn't too impressed at all due to the fact that I know we are going to get silly competitions more than once a week because the young Rookies cannot carry longer matches. We'll see how they fill the gap between now and the first elimination.
