8/31 Twilling's WWE NXT Live Coverage: Season two finale; who will emerge victorious between Alex Riley, Kaval, or Michael McGillicutty?

By Rich Twilling
WWE NXT on the Syfy Network
Live from Albany, N.Y.
[Q1] Short videos featuring each finalist were shown. An abbreviated opening video aired and fireworks lit up the stage. Michael Cole and Josh Mathews welcomed us to the show. Mathews looks like he is tanning with Hulk Hogan.
Ashley Valence introduced the WWE Pros. The Pros of the finalists came out to their music. The Miz introduced Alex Riley himself. LayCool did the same for Kaval. Kofi Kingston brought up the rear with Michael McGillicutty. All of the Pros and Rookies headed to the ring...
Matt Striker introduced the eliminated Rookies, who were sitting at ringside. Titus O'Neil barked like a seal. Husky Harris did the NWO "too sweet" hand gesture thing. Striker said the Rookies would face each other in a triple threat match tonight.
Kaval pushed Miz to the ground in the ring and a brawl nearly ensued. Cole and Mathews said season three of NXT would be all divas. Kelly Kelly introduced us to her Rookie, Naomi...
Twill's Two Cents: Season three? Son of a bitch.
The finalists prepared for their final NXT match... [C]
[Q2] 1. Alex Riley (with The Miz) defeated Michael McGillicutty (with Kofi Kingston) and Kaval (with LayCool) in a triple threat match in 10:20. A lot of nearfalls early on by all three guys. McGillicutty threw Kaval to the floor, but Riley then did the same to McGillicutty. Riley stood tall in the middle of the ring heading into the break... [C]
Back from commercial, all three men were back in the ring. Cole was difficult to understand because his head was so far up the ass of The Miz. McGillicutty scored a nearfall after a belly to belly suplex on Riley.
Kaval nearly won the match with a springboard kick to McGillicutty. He then met Riley on the top rope. He was pushed off, but then did a cartwheel into a kick into the side of Riley's head. There must be some TNA fans in the crowd because we got a "This is awesome!" chant.
McGillcutty hit a Perfect Plex on Kaval, but Riley broke up the pinfall. In the ring, Kaval hit a rolling Lyger kick on McGillicutty. He attempted the Warrior's Way, but Riley pushed him off the top rope. He then slid in the ring and pinned McGillicutty...
Twill's Two Cents: Entertaining and fun match in which they worked pretty well as a trio. Normally, triple threats include one guy being taken out for much of the match to make it a one-on-one, but they did a nice job incorporating everyone.
Alicia Fox cockily said she was not surprised when she was chosen as a season three Pro. She introduced her Rookie, Maxine...
Twill's Two Cents: Yes genius, since there are so many Divas to choose from. I wonder how many of these women have last names. It's like they are all strippers or something.
The Pros discussed things at the top of the stage... [C]
[Q3] Goldust is a season three Pro. Aksana is his Rookie. Three Rookies, three one name girls. Goldust as a Pro could be interesting...
Paper Jamz is sponsoring the Night of Champions pay-per-view. When I think of a paper jam, I think of Samir from Office Space. "Why does it say paper jam when there is no paper jam?"
Titus O'Neil and Eli Cottonwood said Alex Riley was going to win. Lucky Cannon said the show went down the toilet when he was eliminated. Percy Watson said McGillicutty. Husky said McGillicutty too, because like himself, he was born better...
Twill's Two Cents: Bonus points for Cole in asking about Lucky, "What? He's a bad guy now?" It doesn't matter. Lucky is still yawn inducing.
The first elimination of the night was Alex Riley. Riley said he was not born into sports entertainment and didn't wrestle in bars because he actually went to college. He said everyone should bet the future of WWE on Alex Riley...
Twill's Two Cents: Riley is ready to go, so I'm sure we will see him back very soon.
The Bella Twins introduced their rookie, Jamie, who is the same girl who did some announcing during this season... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: The Bella Twins as Pros? What are they going to teach Jamie; how to hang all over the Raw guest hosts? Or, how to stay employed without doing, well, anything at all?
[Q4] Footage of the first ever WWE trip to China was shown...
Primo is a Pro for season three. His diva is A.J. Wow, now a first name is too much to ask? A.J. looks like an Asian Madison Rayne...
Each Rookie stood in the ring and had to tell the other one why they should be eliminated. McGillicutty tried to be funny and completely bombed. Kaval is small. Haha. Kaval is little. Haha. Creative.
Kaval received a crowd reaction. That is something McGillicutty hasn't received all night. Kaval said he has earned respect all over the world. Even Michael Cole was impressed with Kaval's promo... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: I'm surprised McGillicutty made it this far. I've been saying the entire time he severely lacks the "it" factor and he definitely proved it with that abomination of a promo. Nice mic work by Kaval.
Vickie Guerrero will be a Pro on season three of NXT. Aloisia is her Rookie and she is 6'9". Get her in the ring with the Great Khali...
Matt Striker stood in the middle of the ring and set up the finish. Kaval was revealed as the winner of NXT season two. LayCool rushed to the ring and the three celebrated together. McGillicutty looked upset, or pleased, or confused. Hard to tell.
Twill's Two Cents: WWE probably figured not many people would buy a PPV with McGillicutty challenging for the WWE Championship.
McGillicutty breathed deeply into the mic. He said he didn't know what to say. Cool. Put the mic down then. He told Kaval he was not at his level. He called himself the next big thing. Somewhere, Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar are laughing at that.
Twill's Two Cents: Here is an idea. Let's give McGillicutty a chance to cut a promo. After he murders that chance, give him the mic again about five minutes later.
He said it is now time for "The Genesis of McGillicutty." Did anyone else notice the cold sore on his lip?
[Overrun] Kaval began to cut a promo but the eliminated Rookies started attacking him. The Pros came down and fought for Kaval. Well, sort of. Cannon, McGillicutty, RIley, and Husky all beat on Kaval. Lucky performed his crappy ass finishing hold.
Is this the Genesis of McGillicutty? Is this Diet Nexus? Actually, Percy and Titus were in there too. The Rookies stood over Kaval to end the show and we heard one more "Oh yeah!" from Percy Watson. Hot tub...
A video package chronicling the entire season was shown...
Twill's Two Cents: Kaval was definitely the best of the bunch and was the deserving winner. Alex Riley will most likely be a huge star. I still like Husky Harris and think he will be a big star as well. Lucky Cannon, Titus O'Neil, and Eli Cottonwood don't ever need to be on television again. Percy Watson and Michael McGillicutty could be something. We'll see on them.
Thank you for hanging out with me during season two of NXT. Season three begins next week with a bunch of one named women on the show. I will be back to cover it, so feel free to take that ride with me.
