8/3 Twilling's WWE NXT Live Coverage: Fallout from Eli Cottonwood's elimination last week and the pull-apart brawl that closed out the show
Aug 3, 2010 - 09:00 PM

By Rich Twilling

WWE NXT on the Syfy Network
Taped in Laredo, Tex.

[Q1] Footage aired of Eli Cottonwood being eliminated last week and then starting a huge brawl amongst the other NXT Rookies...

The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the stage. Michael Cole and Josh Mathews welcomed us to the show. The Pros were shown sitting on the stage and Matt Striker welcomed us to the show from the ring. He introduced the Rookies. They all headed out to the ring...

Striker said they needed to "kiss and make up" after what happened last week, so they were going to have a kissing contest. He then said they needed some Divas. Cole said he wanted to join in...

Twill's Two Cents: If the contest was kissing The Miz's ass, Cole would win in a landslide.

LayCool headed out to the ring. They wanted to see a softer, sweeter side of the Rookies. They asked the Rookies if they were cool kissing LayCool. They acted like they are actually going to kiss these guys...

Twill's Two Cents: Are we going to get a Mae Young appearance?

Michelle pretended to be interested in kissing Husky Harris, but instead, they introduced Laredo's own, "Margarita." Margarita was really fat and had a huge cold sore on her lip. Husky dipped her, broke his back in doing so, and planted one on her as everyone else winced.

Call me crazy, but this is a contest I definitely would not enter. McGillicutty almost barfed. Lucky Cannon actually turned on the romance. Percy Watson looked scared; perhaps they should get a man for his character to kiss? He took off his glasses. Blurry is good here.

[Q2] Kaval mouthed "Save me" as his turn came up. Layla then planted a huge kiss on Kaval. Dot Net's own Marvin Hermanstyne just passed out wishing he was Kaval. Alex Riley really wanted to have immunity because he got into it.

Margarita chose Lucky Cannon as the winner. They said Lucky won a bunch of diseases, including "Cooties." Nice... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: What the hell was that? Ravishing Rick Rude is turning over in his grave right now. Is this what Vince McMahon envisioned when he introduced "the next revolution of WWE television?" Sadly, it is probably exactly what he envisioned.

1. Husky Harris (with Cody Rhodes) defeated Kaval (with Layla and Michelle McCool) in 3:14. Cool spot early with Husky trying to launch Kaval in the air, but he landed feet first on Husky's shoulders, and then dropkicked him. Husky then ran Kaval into the fan barricade on the floor.

Back in the ring, both men countered each other impressively, but Husky's power was too much. He hit his backsplash for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: Fun three minute match with a surprise finish, Husky defeating Kaval two weeks in a row. Kaval is so impressive in that he is just as powerful as he is fast and agile. Husky looked impressive too.

The Miz reiterated his thought that Michael McGillicutty is mediocre...

Backstage, McGillicutty and Lucky Cannon argued over who would get The Miz in the ring first. Miz commented on this and said they should fight each other. Kofi Kingston set up Lucky vs. McGillicutty with the winner facing Miz tonight. He mocked Miz and Miz accepted... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Lucky looks too much like a nice guy to get up in someone's face. It just looks awkward when he does it. The idea of Miz wrestling on this show just might take the visual of that kissing contest out of my mind. Okay, it won't, but it is a start.

[Q3] 2. Michael McGillicutty (with Kofi Kingston) defeated Lucky Cannon (with Mark Henry) in :59. Michael made short work of Lucky and won with the McGillicutter (snap neckbreaker)...

Alex Riley vs. Percy Watson was hyped for tonight... [C]

The announcers ran down the current SummerSlam card. So far, all we have is Team WWE vs. The Nexus, Sheamus vs. Randy Orton, and Kane vs. Rey Mysterio...

Striker interviewed the Pros and asked who was the worst Pro. Kofi said it was LayCool because they made Kaval come out in a pink snuggie. LayCool said Kofi. Mark Henry said Zack Ryder. Cody Rhodes said Kofi.

The Miz interrupted Ryder and said every Pro was the worst. John Morrison tried to jaw with Miz, but that was ill-advised. Miz said since he has done everything and Morrison has done nothing since their team broke up. Miz and Alex Riley headed to the ring... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Miz just told it exactly like it is. Morrison should just shut his mouth now.

[Q4] 3. Alex Riley (with The Miz) defeated Percy Watson (with a reluctant MVP) in 3:29. Percy cut a promo that can be viewed on WWE.com about how Riley bumps into him without apologizing. He then called him the "Junior Varsity Villain" as opposed to the "Varsity Villain." Creative.

Riley hit Randy Orton's DDT on the ropes, but from the other side, driving Percy's face into the apron. Percy's glasses flew off. He just lose them permanently while wrestling. Riley took control and hit his finisher (fireman's carry into a Diamond Cutter) for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: Decent, but too short to be anything special. Percy could actually be something if he stopped overdoing his mannerisms. Less is more. Riley is polished and could be another story like Miz moving forward.

McGillicutty and Kofi headed to the ring for McGillicutty's match with The Miz... [C]

[Overrun] 4. The Miz (with Alex Riley) defeated Michael McGillicutty (with Kofi Kingston) in a non-title match in 4:33. Anyone notice when they put the camera on the Pros, they all start writing something down in unison? Miz dominated with minor flashes from McGillicutty.

McGillicutty hit a nice belly to belly suplex and tried a low dropkick, but Miz moved out of the way. He went for and hit the Skull Crushing Finale for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: Fun match with an ending I liked. I was dreading the "pulled it out of his ass" victory for McGillicutty, but Miz scored the clean victory. McGillicutty's effort can be praised and it can be said he looked good in defeat.

A show with nothing advertised that started the way it did actually turned out to be decent for a non-elimination show. I would have liked to see Miz vs. McGillicutty built up and advertised in advance. Thanks for following along and I'll see you back here next week.
