7/30 Hermanstyne's WWE Smackdown Live Coverage: Christian vs. Drew McIntyre, Kofi Kingston vs. Dolph Ziggler, Rey Mysterio vs. Jack Swagger in a no DQ match
Jul 30, 2010 - 07:01 PM

By Marv Hermanstyne

WWE Friday Night Smackdown on MyNetworkTV
Taped in Corpus Christi, TX.

[Q1] The show started with Kane's promo from last week and highlights of the number one contender's main event from last week. Kane was already in the ring with a casket. He said for the past 60 days, he has been by Taker's bedside and he wondered who beat him to the vegetative state. He said that Taker moved and opened his eyes. He said that Taker spoke and he managed to say two words which was his salient. He said that attacker of Taker was Rey Mysterio. He asked why Rey did it. He said he had the most to gain. He said after the fatal four way match months ago, he won an opportunistic won a battle royal to get in the fatal four way match and eventually won the world title.

He said that he brought the title back to the dark side and beating him will not satisfy him. He is going to open the casket and stuff him in. He said he will damn him to eternal hell were the fires of hell and eternal pain as he scream in agony. He said he will be praying to him and not God. He said Rey will cease to exist and his fate will be sealed and soul as his soul. He said the last thought that will go through his mind is repent on what he did to Taker. He said the only thing left is the darkness and he slammed the casket…[C]

Mind of Marv: More good work from Kane. The mortifying music gives his promos and kick and it's fun to listen to. Good start to the show…

Every 7-11 designed coffee cup with John Cena's face bought, an donation will go to the Make-A-Wish foundation. The main event is Rey vs. Swagger in a No DQ match later tonight. Footage of the tag team main event was shown from last week.

[Q2] 1. Christian defeated Drew McIntyre in 12:45. Christian got the early advantage and went for a early rollup, but Drew blocked it and stomped Christian. Christian tossed Drew out and missed a baseball slide. He caught his balance and dropkicked Drew into the ring. Drew crawled under the ring and grabbed Christian's arm and pulled it into the steel of the ring. Drew applied a keylock submission to Christian and clotheslined Christian outside of the ring.

The show returned with Christian almost getting counted out. Drew hit a shoulderbreaker on Christian during the commercial break and he continued to work on Christian's arm. Drew then applied an armbar and a scoop slam to weaken Christian's arm. Drew taunted Christian and went for a cover for a nearfall.

Christian hit a uppercut and missile dropkick to Drew. Christian hit a drop toe hold on Drew and hit a inverted hangman to Drew's neck. Christian hit a crossbody and Drew switched to a rollup for a nearfall. Both men tried their finishers but Christian converted a inverted DDT for a nearfall. Drew switched up and went for a cover after twisting Christian's arm for a nearfall.
Christian went for a cover for a nearfall and a flying uppercut to Drew. Drew threw Christian into the ring post again. Drew went for the Future Shock but Christian hit an inside cradle rollup to Drew for the win.

Mind of Marv: Very good match all around for both of these guys. This will be a good feud for now since Christian is buried in the mid-card and they cooled off on the McIntyre push.

The women's title is on the line later tonight and we get ANOTHER Dashing Cody Rhodes commercial about blackheads. He had an avocado mask on during this boring ass commercial. [C][Q3]

Mind of Marv: Is WWE trying to reach the metrosexual audience with this crap?

Another Alberto Del Rio vignette is shown…

Backstage, Punk bitched to the SES about letting him down. He asked to smell Serena's breath and thanked her for showing up sober. He threatened Mercury and Gallows for losing his mask and being in a sling. Mercury talked about his mask and Punk taunted him, funny. He called the rest of the SES nothing and told them to do something because if they don't they can all pack their bags…

Mind of Marv: Punk made the SES look like punk bitches…hilarious segment.

Big Show came out for his match against Gallows, next…[C]

The Smack of the Night was Big Show unmasking Punk and Joey Mercury…

[Q4] 2. Big Show beat Luke Gallows by DQ in 1:40. Gallows tired to get some punches in, but Show used him like a toy. He asked Tony Chimel to bring a mic to the ring so he can slap Gallows chest. Punk told him to get up and Gallows crawled until the entire SES beat on Show to get the DQ finish.

Punk and Serena's stomped Show's hand while Mercury and Gallows hold him and choked him out by the ring steps. [C]

Mind of Marv: The SES isn't shit anymore, so they got to salvage themselves someway somehow. Here's an idea, have the SES face Big Show at Summerslam…

The show returned with everything that happens moments ago…

3. Dolph Ziggler (w/Vickie Guerrero) defeated Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston by DQ in 14:00. The first minute was extra technical with takedowns. Dolph came to Kofi with punches and kicks. Kofi hit Codebreaker type move and punched Dolph for a nearfall after the cover. Dolph used the rope as leverage to get the advantage. Dolph hit three scoop slams for a nearfall. Kofi hit a half hurracrana to Dolph on the ropes. Dolph countered with a modified snap neckbreaker on the ropes for a nearfall.

[Q5] Kofi hit a dropkick to Dolph in the corner and he missed and crossbody. Dolph hit an inverted body slam for a nearfall. Dolph tried for the sleeper but he slammed Kofi into the ring. Dolph hit a jumping elbow to Kofi for a nearfall. [C]

The show returned with Dolph hitting a neck toss and a key lock submission to Kofi. Kofi came back with some brief offense but Dolph hit a neck break to Kofi for a nearfall. Dolph applied a bridge crossface to Kofi which was cool as hell. Kofi hit a chinbuster to Dolph and Dolph went for the Zig Zag but Kofi countered by catapulting Dolph into the corner. Kofi hit his offense and went for the Boom Drop but he was still selling the injuries. Dolph hit the Famasser to Kofi for a nearfall. Vickie slapped Kofi and Kofi got pissed off and beat the hell out Dolph afterwards causing him to get DQ'ed...

Afterwards, Kofi got ape shit crazy and beat the shit out of Dolph! Since Dolph won by DQ, he gets a IC title shot next week. Rey vs. Swagger is still to come…[C]

Mind of Marv: Kofi beating the hell out of Dolph reminded me what he did to Orton when he was on Raw. With Smackdown having the better writers, Kofi being an angry black man can actually be good to elevate him to the main event and fizzle out this gimmick of his. Additionally, he can become a damn good heel if they wanted to pull the trigger on him…

[Q6] The Raw Rebound was shown and the Summerslam card was ran down…

Backstage, Swagger was interviewed and said that his father was still in the hospital and he should be asked what he will do in the No DQ match and Swagger said that he break his arms and legs. He started ripping him and said that he will throw him in the Gulf of Mexico. He said if Rey can't walk, he can't swim and if he can't do either he won't make it to Summerslam. The Blondtourage (Kelly and Tiffany) was coming to the ring and Tiffany is in a women's title match, which is next…[C]

Kofi vs. Dolph is set for next week for the Intercontinental Championship…

[Q7] Vickie came out to her REAL heat and said that Michelle McCool will replace Layla in the matchup.

4. Michelle McCool (w/Layla) defeated Tiffany (w/Kelly Kelly) to retain the WWE Women's Championship in 2:35. McCool did her GI Jane bit and Tiffany hit her with a dropkick. Tiffany attacked McCool in the corner. Tiffany hit a superplex for a nearfall. Layla and Kelly fought outside of the ring. McCool buried Tiffany with the Styles Clash to retain the belt she technically claims.

Mind of Marv: This has to be one of the worst matches of the year. Tiffany doesn't know what the hell she's doing and this match was plodding and numbing.

Teddy Long on the Titantron said that it will be one women's champion and if they don’t decide by next week, he will. Another Alberto f'n Del Rio vignette was shown. The No DQ match is next...[C]

Mind of Marv: They finally want to break this pair apart…cool because this shit was getting old. Just make Layla the title holder and let her stay so damn sexy while McTaker can attend to her allegedly vegetative husband…

[Q8] 5. Rey Mysterio fought Jack Swagger to a no-contest in a No DQ match in 15:00. Swagger pounded on Rey in the corner and hit an Irish whipped him. Rey hit a dropkick to Swagger and went for the 619 but Swagger crawled out. Swagger went for the ankle lock but Rey slung him into the ring steps. [C]

The show returned with Swagger going for a superplex but Rey knocked him off an hit a canton. Rey went for an crossbody, but Rey missed. Rey hit a hurracanrana to Swagger into the security ring. Swagger tossed Rey into the crowd and they both fought in the crowd. Rey hit a facebuster and kick to Swagger's face. Rey kicked Swagger in the back and pushed him into the stair rails. Rey went for a canton but Swagger rammed Rey into the railings.

Swagger dragged Rey and threw him into the wall. Swagger then took Rey and threw him into the merchandise table. Swagger threw Rey into the door and threw him outside. Swagger continued to kick Rey's ass in the street. Swagger carried Rey and they almost got hit by an car. Swagger went by the Gulf of Mexico and Rey got out and threw Swagger over a railing. Rey hit a cinton on Swagger and kicked him.

Swagger got back on the advantage and said that he is the champion and not half the man he is. Swagger looked at the Gulf and picked Rey up. Swagger pressed Rey and Rey hit an hurracanrana on Swagger tossing him in the water. Afterwards, Kane chokeslammed Rey into the water and he stared at the camera to end the show.

Mind of Marv: Good ending to another strong show. Besides the Diva filler crap, we got another good show from Smackdown. I'm not going to give away any spoilers from next week show because it's been taped already but we should get three weeks straight of good programming from the blue brand.

Chris Shore will have the Smackdown Hitlist in the morning and if you have questions and comments, send them to my new address dotnetmarv@gmail.com and I'll see you next week.
