7/29 Hermanstyne's WWE Superstars Live Coverage: Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov vs. William Regal and Primo, Caylen Croft vs. Chris Masters, MVP vs. Chavo Guerrero
Jul 29, 2010 - 07:00 PM

WWE Superstars on WGN America
Taped in San Antonio and Corpus Christi, Texas

By Marv Hermanstyne

[Q1] The opening montage aired and we were welcomed to Superstars. Kozlmarella got a nice pumped pop from the crowd. Regal got his usual heat and Primo, the regular on this show came out to pumped heat.

Mind of Marv: I'm covering the show tonight because Chris Shore is doing Impact live coverage (join me after Superstars in the Dot Net Forum to discuss the show) and we will be back to reality with double Smackdown live coverage tomorrow.

1. Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov defeated William Regal and Primo in 11:45. Santino and Regal started the match. Santino swung and missed Regal and Regal hit an armbar takedown. Santino put on his comedy and Regal stared. Santino hit a jackknife rollup for a nearfall. Primo got in the matchup and worked on Santino. Kozlov got in the match worked on Primo in the corner. Primo hit a chop block to Kozlov and Regal tagged in. Regal worked on Kozlov's left knee. Regal used the ropes for leverage and Kozlov attacked with a big boot.

Santino hit the cobra on Regal and scared Primo off to the commercial break. [C]

The show returned with Primo hitting shoulder block on Santino. Santino hit some nice offense with hiptosses but Primo countered with a headbutt to Santino's shoulder. Regal got back in the match and got some legit heat. The heels exchanged blows to Santino and Primo Irish whipped Santino in the corner. Regal applied the abdominal stretch to Santino and switched it to an hiptoss. Primo hit a scoop slam and Santino used his knees to counter Primo's next move.

[Q2] Kozlov got back in the match and dominated Primo. Santino chased Regal off with the Cobra and Primo went to the top rope but Kozlov caught him and hit his finisher to end the match.

Mind of Marv: Why was this match almost 12 mintues? Sure it was a comedy match, but it was still a viewable matchup. Regal has legit heat yet he is buried in Raw's undercard. Meanwhile, they really seem to behind Kozlov and Santino as a tag team. Will they get a tag title shot in the future? Hopefully not if they want to keep the little morsel of credibility to the tag titles…

The NXT rewind was shown ad MVP vs. Chavo is the main event. [C]

Video of the Dudebusters attacking Chris Masters was shown during the last couple of weeks.

2. Caylen Croft defeated Chris Masters in 3:25. Masters dominated the first minute of the match until Croft worked on Master's leg. Master's kicked him off and hit a atomic drop and multiple clotheslines. Masters hit a tilt-o-whirl powerslam for a nearfall. Masters clotheslined Croft out of the ring and applied the Masterlock on Baretta by mistake. Croft hit chop block and a DDT to win the match.

Mind of Marv: My god, that was a three and a half minutes wasted of my time. Masters hit some basic offense and Croft hit chopblocks and a weak DDT…what is there to highlight about this match?

MVP and Chavo is the main event…[C]

[Q3] Rey Mysterio was featured in the video package of the week and the Raw rebound was shown. The current Summerslam card was ran down and MVP made his appearance with Percy Watson. [C]

[Q4] 3. MVP (with Percy Watson) defeated Chavo Guerrero in 17:00. Chavo came out the new short trunks for the match. The match started technical and MVP applied a neck scissors. Chavo switched up to a headlock. MVP hit a takedown and a knee to Chavo's back for a nearfall. MVP hit some blows and crossbody to Chavo. MVP clotheslined Chavo to the commercial break. [C]

MVP went for the boot in the corner but he caught his balance. Chavo knocked him off the ring and attacked him outside of the ring and splashed him in the corner of the ring. Chavo applied an armbar submission. Chavo hit an dropkick to MVP in the corner and clotheslined him for a nearfall. Chavo applied an Cobra Clutch and MVP countered with an electric chair to Chavo. MVP hit an exploder suplex to Chavo and hit his offense to set up the Ballin' Elbow. Chavo threw MVP into the corner and hit 2 of the 3 amigos until MVP block the third one and suplexed Chavo.

Chavo went for the frogsplash, but MVP hit a big boot to Chavo for a nearfall. Chavo went for a rollup but MVP hit the Play of the Day for the win…

Mind of Marv: Good main event for this show. Chavo is a proven veteran and can work with anybody. As far, MVP I'm still stupefied on why he is far low on the undercard on the B show. He should be main eventing on SD, but something is telling me that he is in the WWE doghouse or they have no confidence in him as being a world champion…

I will have the Superstars Hitlist available in the morning, join me in the Dot Net forum to discuss TNA Impact (coming up next) and follow Chris Shore's live coverage report. Starting tomorrow night, I will provide my new email address to contact me and I'll be back for Smackdown tomorrow night.
