5/6 Twilling's ECW Live Coverage: Delaney vs. Estrada for an ECW contract, Kane & C.M. Punk vs. Chavo & Bam Neely, Adamle & Tazz situation addressed?
By Rich Twilling May 6, 2008 - 09:00 PM

ECW on SciFi
Live May 6 from London, Ont.

[Q1] A video aired of highlights from the past year in ECW. The regular opening video then aired. Tazz welcomed us to the show. Tony Chimel introduced Mike Adamle. Tazz said he walked off last week in support of Adamle.

Adamle walked to the ring and had trouble rolling into it. Adamle also had trouble remembering the day the show was taped. He then apologized to Tazz and the fans.

He went on to name off all of his accomplishments, both as a NFL player and as an announcer. He said the job was much more difficult than he thought it was going to be. He sounded very sincere, but the fans booed him anyway. He thanked the fans for listening, even if they despised him.

Twill’s Two Cents: That is it?! All of that intrigue and they give us that?

1. Mike Knox defeated Tommy Dreamer in an Extreme Rules Match in 6:30. Stevie Richards joined the announce booth. Adamle pointed out that Stevie was in the first ever ECW match, back in 1992. Dreamer brought out a shopping cart full of weapons.

Dreamer and Knox fought to the floor. Knox hit Dreamer with a cookie sheet.
Back in the ring, Knox hit a vertical suplex. Knox grabbed hockey sticks and the fans popped for it. Dreamer dropkicked Knox to the floor.

Tommy beat up Knox with two kendo sticks. He then threw the actual shopping cart in the ring (those are awkwardly heavy). Tommy went for a suplex, but Knox bodyslammed Tommy on the shopping cart.

Knox went the top but Dreamer crotched him and put him in the tree of woe. Tommy lined up the cart and a garbage can in front of Knox’s head. He then hit the running drop kick. Dreamer went outside and picked up a table.

Tommy tried a bulldog into the table in the corner, but Knox reversed it into a belly to back suplex for the first nearfall of the match. Knox grabbed a chair, but Tommy used it first. Tommy went for the DDT, but Knox gave him a lowblow. Knox hit a corkscrew (Adamle called it the “Knox Out”) for the win…

Twill’s Two Cents: Good Extreme Rules Match. Stevie was great on commentary. If anyone cared about Knox, it may have been more interesting.

[Q2] They plugged Delaney vs. Estrada. Kelly’s Expose also returns to the show tonight. Finally, they showed highlights of The Sandman vs. The Zombie, who gave the single greatest promo in the history of professional wrestling… [C]

Back from commercial, Kelly Kelly’s Expose took place in the center of the ring. She danced to the Timbaland song the divas did the video for. All of a sudden, Layla jumped in the ring, and they had a dance off. After they both looked hot for awhile, Kelly attacked Layla. More hotness ensued before the referees broke it up…

Twill’s Two Cents: Kelly and Layla are both very hot.

They showed highlights of the great match between Hardcore Holly and RVD from 2006. They plugged Kofi Kingston vs. Matt Striker for later in the show… [C]

Back from commercial, they showed highlights of Matt Striker’s birthday, where The Boogeyman spit worms in his mouth. They followed that with highlights of the Punk vs. Palumbo match from last week. Backstage, Lena screwed up her question, and Chuck told Punk to stay out of his business…

2. Kofi Kingston defeated Matt Striker in 1:00. Shelton Benjamin joined the announce team. Kofi hit a huge dropkick; he outleaped Striker completely.

[Q3] Striker threw Kofi into the ropes, but Kofi came up with a counter I have never seen before (like Tajiri’s), and hit his finisher for the win. Shelton Benjamin attacked Kofi and left him laying…

Backstage, Colin Delaney made his way to the ring. C.M. Punk met him and began to applaud. The camera panned back and the entire face roster clapped for Colin as he walked through them… [C]

Twill’s Two Cents: I like the fact the feud is continuing, but Shelton has to be the guy to give Kofi his first loss. I actually like Striker, so I do not like to see him squashed like this.

Back from commercial, they showed the highlights of the Extreme Rules Match after Wrestlemania 23 between The New Breed and the ECW Originals…

3. Colin Delaney defeated Armando Estrada in 2:23 to earn an ECW contract. Estrada came out looking very athletic. Colin rolled up Armando for a nearfall early. Armando took over and talked a lot of shit.

Delaney’s opening came at 1:27 when Armando missed a charge into the corner. Colin hit a dropkick, but Armando used his leverage to throw Colin to the apron. Out of nowhere, Colin hit a sunset flip for the pin. It looked like the referee counted to four.

Colin ran around the ring and slapped the hands of the fans. Tazz called over Colin for an interview. Colin thanked Tommy Dreamer, the fans, and all of the people that believed in him…

Twill’s Two Cents: I watched the replay, and it still looked like the referee counted to four. Maybe that can be Delaney’s gimmick, like when King Kong Bundy used to make referees count to five in his matches.

[Q4] They aired the Smackdown Rebound. Vickie Guerrero stripped The Undertaker of the World Heavyweight Championship…[C]

Back from commercial, Adamle welcomed The Miz and John Morrison to the broadcast booth. Miz gave Tazz his “Chick Magnet” shirt. When Miz first came to the company, did you think he would ever have his own shirt?…

4. Kane and C.M. Punk defeated Chavo Guerrero and Bam Neely in 13:18. Kane started with Neely, who was wearing tights this week. Punk came in, as did Chavo, and the two traded offense. Punk backdropped Chavo into Neely on the floor as the show went to commercial... [C]

Back from commercial, Punk and Neely were in the ring. Miz said to Adamle, “Why don’t you go Jamaican yourself crazy?” Ugh. In the ring, Chavo worked over Punk with some nice mat work. Punk tried to come back, but Chavo backtripped him, and then tagged his partner.

[Overrun] Miz continued to mock Adamle by calling Tazz, “The Tazz.” After Neely pounded on Punk, Chavo tagged back in and continued the onslaught. After Neely reentered, Punk finally turned the tables with the springboard closeline.

Kane received the hot tag as Bam tagged Chavo. Kane pounded Chavo in the corner, and hit a huge backdrop. Kane then hit a side suplex. After knocking Bam from the apron, it looked like he tried to crotch Chavo on the top rope, but it looked botched.

Kane favored his knee and tagged in Punk. Punk hit the big knee in the corner. He tried the bulldog, but ended up hitting a ensiguiri instead. All four men entered the ring, and amidst the melee, Punk hit the GTS on Chavo for the win.

After the match, Punk and Kane celebrated. They stared down Miz and Morrison. Kane held up the ECW Title, Punk held up the briefcase, and Miz and Morrison held up the tag belts. Adamle called it a memorable 100th show… [C]

Twill’s Two Cents: Decent match. Despite a couple of bad lines, Miz was great on commentary. Morrison was not. I wonder if the win here, and the staredown after the match, will finally eliminate Chavo and Neely from this feud. To me, this was actually a decent show, but I would have loved to see a surprise appearance by RVD or The Sandman. Oh well. I do not remember anything vividly regarding Mike Adamle, so that means he did a decent job.

What did you think of the show? Do you agree or disagree with me? Your feedback is welcome and appreciated. Rich Twilling can be reached at dotnetrich@gmail.com.
