6/18 Shore's WWE Smackdown Live Coverage: The Go Home show for Fatal Fourway, Christian and MVP vs. Vance Archer and Curt Hawkins, Drew McIntyre vs. Teddy Long, and Jack Swagger and C.M. Punk vs. Big Show and Rey Mysterio
Jun 18, 2010 - 07:00 PM

By Chris Shore

Smackdown on MyNetwork TV
Taped on 6/15/10 in Raleigh, NC.

[Q1] A video package recapped Kane's attacks last week. The opening video aired, followed by the pyro, and Todd Grisham and Matt Striker welcomed us to Smackdown. They hyped the main event and Drew McIntyre vs. Teddy Long...CM Punk's music hit and he made his entrance while cutting a promo on winning the title at Fatal Fourway. He said he would be the four time Straight Edge champion and that would be sweet, but it would be sweeter if Undertaker was there to see it. He said he was the only person in history to make Taker tap out. He said he would make Taker tap again if he wasn't in his vegetative state.

He said the crowd knew a lot about vegetative states, and that wasn't his fault, just like Taker's wasn't his fault. He said he wished he had been there. He said he wished it had been him, but it wasn't. He said when the person is revealed, he will be the first to step up and shake their hands. The lights went out, and when they came back on, Undertaker was standing in the ring. Punk scurried back, but Taker just stood there. Punk approached cautiously and pushed Taker. He did it a few times and grinned. Taker finally ripped off the hat and wig to reveal that it was Luke Gallows. They laughed, and Punk stomped and squished the Taker hat.

Kane's pyro popped and he started towards the ring. Swagger attacked him from behind, and then he, Punk, Gallows, and the masked man beat on Kane. They rolled him in the ring and Gallows hit a splash. They held him again, and Swagger hit three of his corner splashes. Rey Mysterio and Big Show ran down and made the save. The heels retreated up the ramp. Kane tried to stand with the ropes help, and Rey hit a 619, and Big Show followed with a choke slam. Rey looked scared of Show and left. Show got in Kane's face and said, “for the last time,” that he was not involved with what happened to Taker. He said nobody would stand in his way of being the next World Heavyweight Champion...

Shore’s Slant: Cool opening spot with the faces getting in their shots too. The crowd was a little confused, which means it's a primarily Chapel Hill crowd. They suck. I am convinced more than ever that this will turn out to be Kane because WWE always screws these things up. When they do, try and remember moments like this and maybe you won't be so heartbroken at haven falling for it again.

[Q2][C] A video recapped the Vince introduction of Drew McIntyre last year. The announce team hyped his match with Teddy Long...MVP made his ring entrance. A video recapped his beat down from Curt Hawkins and Vance Archer. Christian was out next, along with a video of his beat down from last week. Archer and Hawkins were introduced by their names and not The Gatecrashers. Thank God for small miracles...

1. Curt Hawkins and Vance Archer defeated MVP and Christian at 7:41. Hawkins and Christian started. Hawkins pushed Christian and Christian slapped him. Hawkins charged and Christian hit a drop toe hold into an arm bar and tagged in MVP. MVP hit a knee drop for two. Hawkins drove MVP back to his corner. MVP alternated punches and elbows to the two men. He hit a face buster on Hawkins, and then a big boot to Archer to drive him to the floor. Hawkins charged and MVP tossed him over the top. Christian ran over and they hit double planchas. The ref pushed Christian back to his corner, and Archer attacked MVP from behind and drove him into the steps...[C]

Back at 4:10, Hawkins worked a chin lock on MVP. He tagged in Archer and they worked a double team move, and the Archer worked the arm on the ropes and with knee drops. Hawkins tagged back in and worked the arm. MVP just escaped and tagged in Christian. Christian worked his offense, and the crowd popped huge for his every move. Christian hit a crossbody, but Archer broke the count. MVP took him out, but Hawkins drove him into the post. Christian tried for the Kill Switch, but Archer ran in and pulled Hawkins away. He hit his reverse DDT, and Hawkins followed with the elbow drop for the win. Post match, MVP tried to fight the men, but they hit the combo moves on him as well...

[Q3] Backstage, LayCool were walking with Kaval holding the belts nearby. Rosa walked up and said she wanted to be in the groop. She said they could be “LayCoolRosa.” It all fell apart after that with the Real Housewives of WWE punking Rosa and making her walk off crying...A video package recapped Teddy Long expunging Drew McIntyre's first loss in March. The announce team hyped their match and reminded us that Teddy would be fired if he didn't compete...[C]

Shore’s Slant: Wow, very good match for Hawkins and Archer. They look very good together and I am thrilled that they went over MVP and Christian. Good things ahead I hope. And LayCool has officially turned the corner from terrible to f-ing terrible.

Backstage, Chavo came up to Vickie Guerrero and said it was great Las Guerrero was back together again. Vickie said, “You look great.” Dolph Ziggler walked in wearing cut off jeans and a tool belt. Chavo tried to talk to Vickie and she told him to go get ready for his match. He said he didn't have a match and she said it was next. He stormed off and she asked Ziggler to hang a photo of them in her office. He climbed up on the couch and struggled to get the picture centered while Vickie stared at his ass. Chris Masters walked up and tried to ask a question, but saw Vickie's face and walked off...

A video recapped Teddy Long firing Drew McIntyre from a few weeks ago...JTG made his ring entrance...[C]

Shore’s Slant: Ugh. This angle was terrible when it was Edge. You think Ziggler is any better?

Chavo Guerrero made his ring entrance while still trying to tape his wrists...

[Q4] 2. JTG defeated Chavo Guerrero at 2:37. Chavo still had one boot untied. The crowd died almost immediately. JTG won with his weak finisher...Kofi Kingston was interviewed backstage. He put over his Fatal Fourway match, and his winning. He said he had a problem with the McIntyre vs. Long match, but he didn't have a problem winning at Fatal Fourway...A video recapped more of the McIntyre/Long feud. Their match is next...[C]

Shore’s Slant: Hmm? What? There was a match? No there wasn't. No, two guys got in the ring and then stunk up the joint. That wasn't a match. Sorry, you're mistaken.

A video recapped the McIntyre/Long feud from last week...McIntyre made his long ass ring entrance. Teddy was introduced and his music played, but he didn't come out. Drew got a mic and announced that if Teddy didn't come out, he would be fired. Teddy's music hit again and he made his entrance in his suit. McIntyre said he was going to tear Teddy apart. He said to prevent any interference from Kofi or Matt Hardy, he had hired his won security force. The goons came out and surrounded the ring. Drew had the ref check Long for weapons.

[Q5] Drew backed Teddy in the corner and yelled at Teddy to hit him. Teddy refused and McIntyre told him his career was on the line. He said if Teddy listened, he might get out of there OK. He told Teddy to get on his knees. When he resisted, Drew reminded him of his wife and family who would go hungry if he didn't listen. Teddy got on his knees. Drew made him say he was the chosen one, and then told him to crawl to the center of the ring and lie on his back. Teddy did...

3. Drew McIntyre defeated Teddy Long at 0:10. McIntyre put his foot on Teddy's chest and told the ref to count to three. The ref did, and Teddy went to leave the ring, crying. Drew grabbed him by the shoulder and let him cry for a moment before turning him around and hooking him for the Future Shock DDT. Kofi's music hit and Drew let go of Teddy, who beat a hasty retreat. Kofi was interrupted by security. They held him until McIntyre came down and beat Kofi up. Hardy ran in through the crowd and attacked Drew. Security pulled him off and Drew beat him up. Security rolled both men in the ring, and Drew hit his DDT on both...[C]

Shore’s Slant: That was...uh...well....uh. Did anybody see X-Pac? I didn't, but it sure did sound like he was out there.

Back from commercial, team LayCool made their ring entrance and McCool almost fell down doing their stupid entrance. At least Kaval didn't have to sit through this shit. Kelly Kelly and Tiffany made their entrance next...

[Q6] 4. Kelly Kelly (w/Tiffany) defeated Layla (w/Michelle McCool) at 2:21. McCool distracted Kelly, allowing Layla to pull her from the second rope. Tiffany took out McCool, and Layla took out Tiffany. She tried for the Lay Out, but Kelly reversed into the K2 for the win...

Backstage, Josh Mattews interviewed Jack Swagger about his match tonight and at Fatal Fourway. Swagger told another crazy story about his dad pushing him hard. He said he was dedicating his win on Father's Day to his daddy. He said all the others would fade away, but his name would live forever...[C]

Shore’s Slant: Wow, for a show that started out pretty good, this has taken a turn for the worst. Kelly is terrible, and even with all of Layla's improvement, she can't carry her. I wonder if we will see Swagger's dad at some point? Could be cool if done right.

A video recapped Ziggler vs. Christian last week...Ringside, Vickie Guerrero came out and did her bit. She introduced Dolph Ziggler while talking about all of his...uh...”assets.” Chris Masters was out next...

5. Dolph Ziggler defeated Chris Masters at 2:59. Masters hit three big clotheslines and tried for the Masterlock. Ziggler escaped and Masters hit a sidewalk slam for two. Masters lifted Ziggler, and Ziggler floated over and locked in a sleeper. Masters powered out and locked in the Masterlock, but Ziggler got his foot in the ropes. Masters broke and Ziggler kicked him in the knee, and followed with a Zig Zag for the win...

[Q7] The announce team hyped the tag team main event...[C]

Shore’s Slant: OK while it lasted, which wasn't long. I just feel like we are seeing the Edge/Vickie angle all over again. And for what? Ziggler needs to stay heel, and he doesn't show any interest in Vickie, so is she going face? Of course not, which means there will be no good to come from this angle.

The Raw Rebound video aired...The announce team ran down the Fatal Fourway card...Rey Mysterio made his ring entrance...[C]

[Q8] Big Show made his ring entrance, followed by Punk with the SES. Swagger was out last...

6. Rey Mysterio and Big Show defeated CM Punk (w/ the Straight Edge Society) and Jack Swagger at 9:48. Punk and Swagger started. Swagger picked up Rey and drove him into the corner. He tagged in Punk and hit a few elbows before Punk took over and worked Rey in the corner. Rey escaped and hit a leg drop for one. Punk tried for a sunset flip, but Rey rolled through. He started to hit the knee, but stopped and grabbed the mask. Punk escaped and rolled tot he floor. Mysterio followed, but Gallows hit a big clothesline on the floor...[C]

Shore’s Slant: I guess the ref was “obstructed.”

Back at 6:15, Rey tried to pull Rey's mask off. Rey fought back, but Punk whipped him into the corner. Mysterio hit an elbow on Swagger and tried to run to Show, but Punk hit a body slam for two. Swagger tagged in and tossed Rey all over the ring. He hit his corner splash for two. Mysterio reversed a lift into a face plant and tagged in Show. Show took out Swagger and Punk and called for the choke slam. Swagger reversed into a DDT. Mysterio got the tag and went to the top, but Swagger moved on the corssbody attempt. Swagger lifted Rey for the gut-wrench powerbomb, but Rey reversed into a backslide slam combo for the win.

Post match, Kane's music hit and he came to the ring. He knocked out Gallows with one blow. He choke slammed Swagger and Punk. He knocked Big Show to the floor. And then he closed with a tombstone on Rey. He took the mic and said one of them was already in hell. He said that Sunday would be a fatal night for one of them. He popped his pyro, and closed the show doing Undertaker's one knee pose facing the ramp where the casket had been rolled out...

Shore’s Slant: This has been a very good angle, but I do see one major flaw with it. Does anybody care who wins the title now? And the world title should always be the most important thing going into a PPV. Sure, Undertaker/Michaels was bigger two Manias in a row, but I think they are the exception that proves the rule. Unless you have some gigantic feud, which this isn't, the title should be the highest priority. I'll have more to say tomorrow on the hitlist. Thanks for reading and I'll see you then.
