5/18 Twilling's WWE NXT live coverage: Who will be the next NXT rookie to be eliminated from the show? Will any already eliminated rookies appear?
May 18, 2010 - 09:00 PM

By Rich Twilling

WWE NXT on the Syfy Network
Taped earlier tonight in Ottawa, Ont.

[Q1] Footage aired of last week's show and the eliminations of Michael Tarver, Daniel Bryan, and Skip Sheffield...

The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the stage. For those who are wondering, the same opening video was used and not a new one to update who is still on the show. Michael Cole and Josh Mathews welcomed us to the show. Cole sent it to Matt Striker...

Striker brought out the WWE pros to the stage as opposed to the rookies. Six pros made their way out. Carlito and R-Truth were missing from the group. The pros sat in chairs on the stage. Striker asked them what they are looking for from the rookies.

Miz said he was looking for the it factor. He wanted someone that would intrigue someone in the ring. William Regal said he was looking for adaptability. C.M. Punk did not care to answer the question.

Christian agreed with The Miz and wanted someone who had the it factor. Regal told Christian he hasn't seen 'it' from him in ten years. Funny. Matt Hardy said he wanted someone that can make it in the locker room as well.

Chris Jericho wanted someone that will make him pay money to see them. Only one rookie has done that for him thus far...

Twill's Two Cents: Nice change of pace from the normal beginning of the show. Christian mentioned someone is still in the competition that he does not see the it factor in, so I'm curious to see who he is talking about, because his guy would be the top candidate.

Darren Young made his ring entrance... [C]

The pros sat with notebooks at the top of the stage. When Wade Barrett made his entrance, Jericho stood up and walked to the ring with him. C.M. Punk did not do the same thing for Darren Young. Footage aired of Barrett's pie face to Young a couple of weeks back...

[Q2] 1. Wade Barrett (with Chris Jericho) defeated Darren Young in 3:11. They battled to the floor and Barrett focused on the lower back. He followed with a big boot for a two count.

Young fought back with an awkward right hand. Young went to the top but Barrett took out his legs. He hit hard in the corner. Barrett picked him up for his finisher and the win...

Twill's Two Cents: Really sloppy and the crowd was not into it at all. Perhaps they weren't sure who to cheer for, which is normally not the case in Canada. Notice how backwards the match was. The referee counted with his right hand instead of his left, and Barrett hit his finisher with his opponent in an opposite direction.

The pros commented on David Otunga. Truth, Jericho, Regal, and Miz loved him. Punk, Christian, and Hardy hated him. Punk said he was going to hurt himself. Hardy wanted to slap his sunglasses off. Christian said Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson were "the same thing." Good stuff... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Punk's line about Otunga hurting himself was accompanied by footage of David awkwardly falling into the ropes. I'm guessing that was as shoot of a comment we are going to get on this show.

Striker stood in the ring with Daniel Bryan and Michael Tarver. Footage was shown again of both guys being eliminated. Striker asked Tarver how he felt about being eliminated.

Tarver said he thought the Pro's Poll would result in an elimination. He called the "WWE Management" unprofessional and said they were afraid of someone like him. He asked, "If eight limousines pulled up in front of you, and one was a different color, which one would you notice first?" He went on to say he was different and brought something different to the show...

Twill's Two Cents: So, because Tarver is black, he thinks he should have been kept?

Danielson went off about the politics in WWE and how Vince McMahon likes big guys. He said WWE likes their own guys and not those who made a name for themselves outside of the company. Danielson pointed out a few pros and then said he is better than The Miz.

[Q3] Miz went crazy and asked Danielson what he has done besides eliminating himself. Danielson told Miz to come down to the ring and prove it. Striker started to speak and Danielson said the one thing he does not miss about NXT is Striker interrupting him.

He turned his attention to Michael Cole and said he was a parrot with McMahon's voice in his ear. He approached Cole and yelled at him that he "was a poor man's replacement for JR." He attacked Cole and Striker had to pull him off. Danielson was restrained... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Wow, that was awesome. That reminded me a lot of the promo Joey Styles cut on Raw years ago. Danielson said a lot of taboo things but things we know to be true. I'm impressed he was allowed to go out there and say some of that stuff. That was the single best segment of this show's entire run by far.

Footage was shown of the previous segment. Normally I don't like it when they do that, but I was cool with it. Cole was licking his wounds. Cole said that was ridiculous and Danielson should be arrested. He was pissed he could not take criticism and asked what would happen to Danielson in the locker room when someone criticizes him...

Justin Gabriel made his entrance and was joined by Matt Hardy. Heath Slater was joined by Christian for his entrance. Cole said he was going to press charges. He said he was done and left the announce booth. A few fans yelled "Poor man's JR" at him...

2. Justin Gabriel (with Matt Hardy) defeated Heath Slater (with Christian) in 2:43. Slater hit a huge pancake for a nearfall. He followed with an impressive spinebuster for another two count. Gabriel came back and hit the 450 for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: Much better match than the first one, although the crowd didn't care much about this one either. Gabriel's 450 is a damn good looking move. He needs more than just that though.

Skip Sheffield spoke and said he was eliminated because the pros saw him as a threat. They were intimidated by him. He compared it to the biggest threat being eliminated first from the show 'Survivor.' ...

Twill's Two Cents: I'm liking the segments involving the eliminated rookies. I doubt anyone is actually intimidated by Sheffield, but he can cut an intense promo. By the way, is it bad that all I notice about him when he is on camera is his snaggle tooth?

Mathews hyped the next Pro's Poll... [C]

[Q4] A video package hyping John Cena vs. Batista in an "I Quit" match this Sunday was shown...

Michael Cole rejoined the announce booth and said he was not going to allow "that creep" to keep him from doing his job. He said it was an important week in WWE and he helped Mathews run down the card for Over the Limit...

Twill's Two Cents: This Cole persona is so much better than anything he has portrayed on television in the past. He needed an edge.

The pros commented on Darren Young. Punk said he was not Young's friend and he had a different way of teaching than the other pros. Jericho does not like the haircut and glittery headband. Miz said there is something about him he likes but hasn't seen it yet...

Twill's Two Cents: I agree with Miz. I think Young does have something and I could see him being on one of the main rosters. I especially liked it when he acted a heelish for a couple of weeks.

Striker instructed the pros to get together to finalize their poll... [C]

[Overrun] The rookies took their spots at ringside facing the ramp. The pros remained seated at the top of the stage. Striker reminded us what the winner of the show earns and then put up the new list.

Wade Barrett was number one again and David Otunga was number two again. Heath Slater leapfrogged into the third spot. Justing Gabriel earned the number four slot and Darren Young was eliminated.

Striker gave the mic to Darren Young and instructed him to tell the Pro's Poll what he thought. He walked up the ramp and thanked the fans. Young walked by each pro and said he had respect for each of them. He said he was not going to holler and cry. He thanked the pros.

The crowd sang the "Goodbye" song to Young as he just looked out at them. He said it was not the last we will see of him. Striker thanked everyone for watching and Danielson attacking Cole was shown again. Mathews and Cole signed off...

Twill's Two Cents: I'm not surprised to see Young go but I think it should have been Slater and then Gabriel. Tell you what, I appreciated his exit promo more than anyone else's. Sheffield and Tarver acted like they were owed something. Young took it like a man. He also loves to include everyone in his promos (first with the rookies and now with the pros). I like him and expect to see him back.
