May 14, 2010 - 07:00 PM

By Marv Hermanstyne

WWE Friday Night Smackdown on MyNetworkTV
Taped in Buffalo, NY

[Q1] The show started with highlights of Drew McIntyre beating on Matt Hardy, being stripped of the IC title and getting fired. The opening montage aired and McIntyre was still in the montage so you already know something is up…

The announcers hyped Rey vs. Punk for later tonight. Teddy Long was in the ring with the IC title. Kingston came out first to a decent pop. Christian came out to a better pop and Striker mentioned that the title changed hands 3 times in Buffalo.

1. Kofi Kingston defeated Christian to become the new Intercontinental Champion in 12:00. Christian had the early advantage with a shoulderblock for a one count. Kingston hit a leg drag for a nearfall. Kingston had a side headlock applied and Christian rammed him off and flipped him over but Kofi flipped him over. Christian hit a crossbody to Kingston outside of the ring. [C]

The show returned with both guys running into each other after Christian hit a crossbody to Kingston outside of the ring. Christian took over the match and got a nearfall on Kingston. Kingston hit a kick in between the ropes and hit a crossbody to Christian for a nearfall. Kingston hit a dropkick and a flying shoulderblock to Christian. Kingston went for the Boom Drop but both guys countered with rollups for a nearfall. Christian hit a reverse electric chair for a nearfall. Both guys again went for covers for nearfalls. Christian again went to the top rope and missed a flying crossbody and Kingston hit a flying crossbody for a nearfall.

[Q2] Kingston hit the Boom Drop and went for the TIP but Christian countered with a inverted DDT for a nearfall. Christian placed his weight on Kingston and went for the Killswitch, but Kofi hit a inverted leg sweep for a nearfall. Kofi hit some blows but Christian countered with a flying elbow. Christian went for the Killswitch but Kofi countered. Christian went for a cover but Kofi countered and hit the TIP for the win and the championship.

Post match, both men showed sportsmanship and Long awarded the title. Drew McIntyre came out to some better than usual heat. Long said he doesn't know what he is doing here but he will have security to escort him out of the building. Drew brought a letter to Teddy Long and Long read the letter and told Kofi he was sorry. Teddy said he has to take the title from him and Kofi pleaded his case but Long continued to apologize to him. Long said that Kofi has to give him the title and give it back to Drew. [C]

Mind of Marv: Four star match that I will watch again over the weekend. These guys work very well together and we got a treat of an opening match. But what destroys the credibility of this title is to have Drew get stripped of the title and give it right back to him. This was an EPIC FAIL of an attempt to get Drew cheap ass heat. This was a hell of a disappointment and the IC title isn't shit to me any more for the moment, real talk.

The show returned with Striker reading the letter and it was basically saying that Long was wrong of stripping him of the title and he overruled the decision and Drew McIntyre is still the IC champion and is reinstated. The letter was signed by Vince. Video was shown of Big Show owning Swagger the past two weeks. Backstage, there were guys unloading all of Swagger's awards in boxes.

[Q3] Shad came out to his simple ass music and his cheap ass haircut.

2. Shad Gaspard squashed Jesse Guyver in 2:00. There is nothing to discuss, Shad beat the shit out of the jobber.

Mind of Marv: Yawn, drink more beer my friends…

Footage was shown of the Punk and Mysterio feud…[C]

Ugh, The Dudebusters….kill me now!

3. MVP and JTG defeated The Dudebusters in 4:20. JTG and Boretta started the match. JTG hit a sitting bulldog and the faces eliminated the DBs. The DBs suddenly took advantage of JTG. Crock applied a headlock to JTG and the DBs worked on JTG. Boretta hit some kicks to JTG's head and the DBs showed some classic tag wrestling strategy with quick tags. Crock applied a side headlock but JTG broke out and tagged MVP. MVP hit instant offense while Striker was being lame with a NBA Jam reference. MVP hit the 305 on Crock to end this match…

Mind of Marv: Forgettable match. I truly hate the Dudebusters and they should be reduced to Superstars so Chris Shore can cover these dudes. MVP really needs a heel turn because this babyface run has run its course.

Backstage, Punk and the SES was conferencing about last week. Punk said his feelings were hurt because of the SES attempt to turn on him and he talked about Rey poisoning in their minds. He said that he doesn't need them for his match tonight. He said it was a long road to Rey's salvation and what doesn't kill them makes them better than everybody. Meanwhile, the guys were brought all of Swagger's trophies out to the ring. [C] [Q4]

The trophies were setup in the ring and Swagger made his entrance to the ring. Swagger said forgive him because he will never forgive himself for this moment. He did pushups for cheap ass heat, ugh. Striker was kissing ass and Swagger said that he accomplishes more in one day then the average person. He said he called his father and told him to bring all his trophies and accomplishments since his childhood and he was rubbing it in to the Big Show. They cut to commercial…[C]

Swagger talked more about his father giving birth to a 15 lb, 2 oz future world champion and he showed a picture of himself. Damn that's a big ass baby…he started to commend himself and said that at age 5, he was better than children then and presently. He talked about his Eagle Scout achievements and started to bore the hell out of me and the crowd.

[Q5] He said he doesn't suck and bragged about his 3rd state wrestling championship. He said he was the King of his high school and it looked like he stole Jerry "King " Lawler's crown. Then he bragged about his prom, his dancing skills an all his offers from Division 1 schools but he stayed true to Oklahoma and had a picture of him and Bob Stoops. He talked about his college achievements at OU, being a certified Lifeguard and called the crowd mediocre. He said he was a national hero and he said the Perry deli named a sandwich called the "Swaggie". He said no one compares to him because he was a National Scrabble champion, a national chess player and Big Show interrupted this boredom…

Show told Swagger to relax and called his Swaggie. Show said that his achievements are impressive and talked about his Scrabble championship. Swagger called Show's fingers Vienna sausages and Show stumped on his trophy. Swagger told Show to leave because these achievements are important and not to destroy any of these trophies. Show started to dance with the ballroom trophy and broke it. Swagger attacked Show but Show countered by throwing him out and destroying all his trophies.

Swagger tried to get in but Show kept breaking shit. Show punted a football into the stands…nice 40 yard punt. Show took a baseball bat and beat on all the pictures. Show snapped the bat in half and begged Show not to break more stuff but he didn't listen. Show held the world title and more footage was shown of Rey and Punk for their match, later…[C]

Mind of Marv: God damn this segment lasted longer than it should. This segment put the nail in the coffin in this meaningless feud. Swagger needs achievements to get cheap heat and Show is already over so why should I care? I want my time back to do something else, but there is no more NBA until Sunday…

[Q6] Rosa Mendes was in the ring and Buffalo gave Beth Phoenix got the homecrowd reception. Beth had a kneebrace on her leg and Vickie came out and got the bitch go away heat. Vickie told Rosa to leave the ring amd said that she was the GM of Raw and consultant to SD that she wanted to have LayCool wrestle Beth Phoenix for the Women's championship.

Mind of Marv:Has Layla's ass gotten bigger? DAMN…

4. Michelle McCool and Layla pinned Beth Phoenix in a handicap match to win the WWE Women's Championship in 2:05. Both heels attacked Beth's knee. McCool applied a neck succors off the top rope but Bath hit a double Samoan Drop to LayCool.

Beth grabbed her knee and McCool went for the cover for a nearfall. The heels knocked each other out and Layla got back in the ring and covered and won the championship. [C]

Mind of Marv: For the record, I am declaring Layla the new Women's champion because she actually pinned Beth even though its confusing because McCool was entitled to the rematch clause but why would she be the champion if Layla got the pin? By the way, according to some reports, Beth Phoenix suffered a ACL injury which will keep her out of action for a while, so I understand the title change. I can see a LayCool split next week to make Layla a face because they need McCool to be the top heel on the brand. But back to the match itself, this is a reason why I hate handicap matches like the Chicago Cubs, I'm just saying…

[Q7] 5. Kane beat Chavo Guerrero. Kane went for a chokeslam early, but Chavo went to the top rope and got a uppercut,. Chavo hit a dropkick to Kane and went for a crossbody, but Kane caught him and hit a chokeslam to end the match. [C]

Mind of Marv: It’s the 5th match out of 6 and if you watch WWE regularly, it's usually a throwaway, meaningless match. Nothing else to discuss…we got a WM rematch that no one cared about.

The show returned with a recap of the IC tournament final, with the controversial ending of Kingston giving the belt back to McIntyre. Backstage, Long and McIntyre confronted each other. Long thought Drew was spoiled and said he had a change of heart. Long said next week, Drew will face the Big Show and he smiled. The Over the Limit card was ran down and Rey was coming to the ring, next…[C]

[Q8] 6. Rey Mysterio defeated C.M. Punk by Disqualification in 10:35.Punk got the early advantage, but Rey countered. Punk took over after Rey missed a baseball slide. Rey tossed Punk out of the ring an Punk got the upper hand by attacking Rey outside of the ring. [C]

The show returned with Punk applying a stretch to Rey. Rey hit a drop toe hold to Punk in the corner. Punk applied his weight and hit a kick to Rey in the turnbuckle for a nearfall. Punk applied an abdominal stretch to Rey. Punk hit elbows to Rey's stomach. Rey went for the 619, but Punk grabbed him and threw him outside of the ring and kicked him in the gut. Punk hit a springboard to Rey for a nearfall. Punk applied an armbar to Rey and Rey countered with a bulldog. Rey hit a springboard bit Punk countered for a nearfall. Punk went for a electric chair but Gallows came out to distract and Punk covered for a nearfall. Rey hit the 619 but someone who came out in the hooded mask and it was Serena. Then someone else (Mercury) came out and attacked Punk. The SES beat on Rey and Punk hit the GTS on Rey. Punk raised Rey's hand and did the Straightedge Pledge with him…

Mind of Marv: Good ass preview to the PPV match. We already knew it was a dirty finish, so what's new. Overall, the opening match should have been the main event and it would have been worthy of a B+, but the confusing women's title match and everything brought the show down…it wasn't bad, but it didn't top last week's show. Chris Shore will have the Hitlist for you in the morning…
