4/16 Shore's WWE Smackdown Live Coverage: Drew McIntyre vs. Kane, R-Truth vs. Dolph Ziggler, and with Randy Orton as the number one contender what will happen with Chris Jericho and Edge?
Apr 16, 2010 - 07:00 PM

Smackdown on MyNetwork TV
Taped on 4/12/10 in London, England.

[Q1] The opening video aired, followed by the pyro, and Todd Grisham and Matt Striker welcomed us to Smackdown. Chris Jericho’s music hit and he came to the ring. Jericho whined about Orton getting the title shot at Extreme Rules since Orton is on Raw. He said Teddy Long should resign and ensure he faced the winner of Orton vs. Swagger as soon as their match was over at the PPV.

Edge’s music hit and cut Jericho off. He made his entrance and said he agreed with Jericho. He said the title should stay on Smackdown and Chris deserved a rematch. He said that Chris should want his rematch though because he was in no shape after all the spears he had been hit with. He said Jericho couldn’t beat Swagger or Orton. Edge said he could and if Jericho wanted to argue, he could spear him right there.

Teddy Long’s music hit and he came to the ramp. HE said Jericho should quit hating. Jericho mocked him and said Teddy should do his job. Teddy said he was, and since Jericho was due a rematch, he would get it tonight. He went on to say that he thought Edge could win the championship too, so he made it a triple threat. Edge looked happy and Jericho screamed at Teddy…[C]

Shore’s Slant: Anybody really think Swagger doesn’t win this after all the time they have already invested in Swagger vs. Orton? Yeah, me neither. Which makes this match, and thus, this promo, irrelevant.

Back from commercial, a video package recapped the Matt Hardy vs. Drew McIntyre feud…Drew McIntyre made his ring entrance. McIntyre cut a promo about why the people hated him. He said it was because he was the chosen one. He said he didn’t like the people either.

[Q2] Kane’s pyro popped and he made his ring entrance…

1. Drew McIntyre defeated Kane by disqualification at 3:10. McIntyre went right at Kane, but Kane tossed him around and locked in a side head lock. He broke the hold and hit the sit-down drop kick for two. Kane whipped McIntyre to the corner and charged. Drew moved and hit a big boot, followed by a neckbreaker for two. Drew worked strikes in the corner, but Kane hit a big boot and the sidewalk slam for two. Kane hit the clothesline from the top and called for the chokeslam. McIntyre rolled to the floor and started to back up the aisle. Matt Hardy ran down and pushed McIntyre back into the ring, causing the DQ. Kane chokeslammed McIntyre, and then chokeslammed Hardy for costing him the match…

Backstage, Jack Swagger ran up on Teddy Long. He asked Teddy who he thought he was and said this was Teddy’s most unfair decision…ever. Teddy said he was the Smackdown GM and if Swagger was going to hold that belt, he better get used to his rulings. Teddy walked off leaving Swagger all pissed off…[C]

Shore’s Slant: Not a bad match, but boring. Everything below the top feud is just giving it half at this point until the draft is over. Maybe Drew goes to Raw to be with Vince. Who knows?

Back from commercial, Dolph Ziggler made his ring entrance. A video replayed Ziggler putting Josh “How’s that feel” Matthews to sleep. Ziggler got a mic and said Teddy forced him to make an apology. He said, “From the bottom of my heart…blah, blah, blah...I sincerely apologize to Josh Matthews.” Truth made his lame ass entrance. Truth said Ziggler had no heart or soul and didn’t mean a word he said. He said Ziggler was about to find out that the Truth hurts. I swear to god…

2. Dolph Ziggler defeated R-Truth at 2:12. Ziggler went to shake hands and punched Truth in the mouth. He hit an inverted body slam for two and locked in a rest hold. Truth escaped and did his split duck for the clothesline, followed by the heel kick and a hip toss.

[Q3] Truth went for the lie detector, but Ziggler ducked. Ziggler went right for the sleeper and held on for 50 seconds and the win…[C]

Shore’s Slant: Almost one half of this match was one move. You tell me how I am supposed to say something good about that? I got nothing.

Back from commercial, Mickie James made her ring entrance. Glad to see she is healthy. Simply Flawless were out next…

3. Michelle McCool (w/Layla and Vickie Guerrero) defeated Mickie James at 4:19. Mickie took control early and tried for a tornado DDT, but McCool tossed her over the rope and into the post. McCool locked in a figure four head lock. She broke it and hit several knees to the head. Mickie came right back and hit a flying head scissor. Mickie covered and Lay climbed up on the ropes. Mickie kicked Layla off the ropes, and turned into a big boot for the McCool win.

Post match, LayCool worked on Mickie. Beth ran out to make the save and chased LayCool over the announce table, across Matt Striker, and into the crowd. The heels left that way, and Beth got in the ring to help James up…

[Q4] The announce team hyped The Harts and CM Punk vs. SES for later…[C]

Shore’s Slant: This Smackdown is so sleepy. Nothing excites me. Though I am looking forward to the six man tag. The Divas just lost me a long time ago, and they aren’t doing much to get me back.

Back from commercial, the announce team setup a video that recapped Swagger’s title win…Backstage, Gallows got in Young’s face. He said not to let the win go to Young’s head. He said when he gets the chance, he was going to beat him up and shave his head. Young asked him what it was like to lose to a rookie. Punk came out and broke them up. He said if they wanted to fight, they would fight out there in front of the world. They made their ring entrance…[C]

Back from commercial, The Miz had joined the announce team. The Harts made their ring entrance. Rey was out next…

4. The Hart Dynasty and Rey Mysterio defeated The Straight Edge Society and Darren Young at13:20. Punk and Smith started. Punk tagged Gallows and he started with strikes. [Q5] Smith tagged in and he tagged Rey. They did a suplex/West Coast Pop triple team move and Rey covered for two. Punk came right back and stomped Rey in the corner. Rey reversed a lift into a bulldog. He hit a low dropkick and went for 619. Punk escaped and the heels strategized into the break…[C]

Back at 8:18, Young broke dirty in the corner with Rey. But Rey ducked and tagged in Smith who worked Young in the corner. Kidd tagged in and they hit a double shoulder block for two. Young drove Kidd back to the corner and tagged in Gallows. Gallows kicked Kidd out of the air off a springboard jump. He hit several elbows for two and tagged in Young. Young hit a big neck breaker for two and tagged in Punk.

Punk hit a backbreaker for two and slapped on a figure-four head lock. Kidd bridged into a pinning predicament and Punk broke at two. He tagged in Young. Kidd hit an atomic drop on Young. Young tagged Punk and he took out Mysterio. Kidd took out Punk and tagged Smith. Smith hit a shoulder tackle on Punk, and then kicked Young to the floor. He tried for Gallows, but Gallows slipped to the floor. Kidd ran over and took out Gallows. Smith hit a drop toe hold on Punk in the corner, Mysterio hit the 619 around the post, and Smith followed with the powerslam for the win…

Backstage, Jericho was talking to Wade Barrett. He said tonight was his night. He said he would win his lucky number seven title. He said when Barrett gets that chance someday, he should seize it…[C]

Shore’s Slant: That was as exciting as I had hoped. Miz was really distracting on commentary. I wanted to watch the match, and he kept bickering with Grisham. But a fun match that had little in televised rest holds.

[Q6] Back from commercial, the Dudebusters were in the ring. JTG made his ring entrance…

5. JTG defeated Dudebuster 1 (w/Dudebuster 2) at 3:13. They don’t get names until they get an entrance. Shad walked out, and that distracted JTG. DB1 went on the offense, but JTG hit his roll the bones finisher for the win. Post match, Shad hit a big clothesline and said JTG was nothing without him. He whipped JTG and charged. JTG moved and hit his facebuster in the corner. He hit several blows and closed with a dropkick. Shad rolled out and they yelled at each other as Shad backed up the ramp…

Backstage, Edge was talking with Josh Matthews. He said he could relate with Swagger. He said Swagger cashed in MITB just like he had, so he could relate. He said he was leaving as champion tonight…[C]

Shore’s Slant: I still don’t care about Cryme Tyme. And putting them with guys we care even less about is not going to pique my interest. They need to end this feud and split them up.

Back from commercial, the Raw Rebound video aired…

[Q7] The announce team ran down the Extreme Rules card. Jack Swagger made his ring entrance…[C]

Back from commercial, Jericho made his entrance, followed by Edge. Old school intros for the title belt? Nice…

6. Jack Swagger defeated Edge and Chris Jericho to retain the World Heavyweight Championship at 15:56. Jericho was the first tossed to the floor. He played possum while Edge and Swagger battled in the ring. Edge spilled Swagger to the floor and Jericho attacked from behind. Jericho missed a splash on the ropes and Edge ran the ropes. Swagger grabbed Edge’s feet and Jericho hit an elbow. Jericho and Swagger took turns hitting moves on Edge, and then they whipped him. Edge grabbed the ropes and Jericho charged. Edge tossed him over, and then pulled the rope down for a charging Swagger.

Edge hit a baseball slide on both men and whipped Jericho to the rail. He worked on Swagger and rolled him in the ring. When Edge tried to get in the ring, Jericho took him out. Jericho and Swagger tried to suplex each other across the rope. Edge grabbed Jericho’s feet and dropped him and Swagger across the ropes. Everybody recovered into the break…

[Q8][C] Back at 7:35, Edge missed a tackle in the corner and Swagger covered for two. Jericho was shown on the floor as Swagger locked in an arm bar. Edge escaped and Swagger hit a back breaker for two. Jericho tried to get back in and Swagger knocked him back down. Swagger hit the splash in the corner for two. He kicked Edge to the floor and posed. He went for Edge, but Edge drove him into the announce table. Jericho took Edge and Swagger out and rolled Edge back in the ring.

Jericho hit a back suplex and locked in a chin lock, Edge escaped by backing Jericho into the corner. Swagger ran in and Edge pushed him into Jericho. He hit a double clothesline from the second rope, and attacked both men. Edge drove Swagger to the floor. And Jericho tried for a school boy. He knocked Edge down and tried for the Lionsault, but Edge moved. Jericho landed on his feet and Edge hit a slam for two. Edge setup for the spear.

Edge charged, and Jericho reversed into the Walls of Jericho. Edge almost made the ropes, but Jericho pulled him back to the middle of the ring. Swagger ran in and Jericho put the Walls on Him. Edge recovered and hit the DDT on Jericho. He hit the DDT on Swagger and setup for the spear. He charged, and Jericho hit Edge from the blindside. He covered for two. Swagger tried to hook a roll up. Jericho kicked out and then hit the Codebreaker on Swagger.

Swagger rolled to the floor and Jericho setup for the spear. Edge leapfrogged the attempt, hit the rope, and then hit the spear. Swagger pulled Edge off at two and drove him to the rail. Swagger jumped in the ring and covered for the win. Post match, Swagger rolled Edge into the ring. He hit the powerbomb and then posed with the belt before leaving the ring. Jericho got back in the ring and attacked Edge’s foot. He placed the foot between the steps and the post, and then kicked the stairs. Edge screamed to end the show…

Shore’s Slant: I’ll admit it, it was a good match. But it lost something because we knew Swagger was going to win. And I’m not talking spoilers. You don’t book a match like Swagger vs. Orton and then break it up like this. So the end was anti-climactic. I am happy the Edge/Jericho feud continues…as long as we are done with the spear shit. I really can’t handle any more. Second hour better than the first tonight. I’ll have more to say tomorrow on the hitlist. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you then.
