4/13 Twilling's WWE NXT Live Coverage: Christian vs. Wade Barrett, Daniel Bryan vs. William Regal, Luke Gallows vs. Darren Young
Apr 13, 2010 - 09:00 PM

WWE NXT on the Syfy Network
Taped in London, England

[Q1] Highlights of last week's keg challenge was shown. The opening video aired and there was no pyro. Michael Cole and Josh Mathews welcomed us to the show. Matt Striker introduced all eight rookies from last to first. They all stood in the middle of the ring with a podium. The ring ropes are yellow tonight...

Striker asked Michael Tarver if the pressure was getting to him. Tarver gave the "Adamle" quote of the year. "Whether I win or lose, I will not lose."

Twill's Two Cents: Nice.

Striker asked Otunga about facing John Cena, the WWE Champion. Otunga made the point that he is the only one in the ring facing someone the caliber of Cena. Striker asked Gabriel, who beat Otunga last week, how he would do against Cena. Gabriel said he would like a match with Cena to find out...

Twill's Two Cents: Okay, Gabriel is not a promo guy. That is something he needs to work on.

Striker said tonight's competition would test their originality and creativity based on topics given to them. The England crowd would judge them. The winner of this week's competition would get their own theme music...

Daniel Bryan's topic was "passion." He blew it. Striker interrupted him. Bryan even counted down his own time and yelled "I love England!" Ouch. That sucked. Wade Barrett's topic was "blase." Barrett nailed it and his hometown crowd loved him. Justin Gabriel talked about "flowers" and he was completely lost too...

Heath Slater's topic was "cereal." He named some cereal and said his body doesn't accept cereal. Otunga's topic was "sleep." He said he did not get much sleep because he was always at the gym and he could sleep when the competition was over.

[Q2] Skip Sheffield's topic was "rainbows." Skip got the crowd chanting with him and said absolutely nothing about rainbows. Tarver's topic was "itchy." He did not say a word. Finally, Young's topic was "toothpaste" and he said not many people in the crowd use toothpaste. Funny. He said he would rather be anywhere than England.

Tarver took the mic and yapped about something. Sheffield received huge cheers while Otunga had a lot of heat. Barrett barely beat out Sheffield but Striker called it a tie, so they would have a "talk off."

Sheffield's topic was "bubble gum." Skip screwed the pooch. Wade's topic was "wind." He changed it up by talking about the "winds of change." He said he was going to be the first English WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Barrett won by a landslide...

Twill's Two Cents: Barrett has the size, he has looked pretty good in the ring , and he just won the promo contest by a longshot. WWE has a star in this guy.

Barrett vs. Christian was hyped for tonight... [C]

The Raw Rebound focused on the John Cena vs. Batista and Swagger vs. Orton feuds and their progressions on last night's episode of Raw. The announcers ran down the current Extreme Rules card. The little KFC logo on the match graphics looks hilarious...

[Q3] Footage was shown of the Straight Edge Society getting ready to induct Darren Young. Young changed his mind and Rey Mysterio saved Young a haircut. The Society and Young spoke backstage.

Young apologized and Punk actually said he respected Young for standing up for what he believed in. Luke kept chiming in and Punk gave him unsatisfied looks. Punk said if Young beat Gallows tonight, he would be forgiven. If not, he would have his head shaved tonight... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Good segment. I like that Punk is coming around with the entire NXT concept and the leadership he shows when Gallows annoys him. I also like that while he did not like what Young did, he respected it.

1. Christian (with Heath Slater) defeated Wade Barrett (with Chris Jericho) in 7:46.. Christian hit a nice dropkick early after an Irish whip sequence. Barrett hit a unique move where he took a back suplex positioning, bounced Christian off the top rope, and combined it into a backbreaker. Christian came back and hit a high cross body to the floor... [C}

Barrett scored a nearfall with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Christian praised Barrett to the announcers. Carlito and Michael Tarver were watching backstage. Christian missed a top rope move and Barrett hit a big boot. Jericho distracted the referee and Barrett set up his finisher, but Slater grabbed Barrett's boot. Christian hit the Killswitch for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: Good match. The formula of pro vs. rookie works much better than rookie vs. rookie. I like when the pros get involved too; it keeps things much more interesting.

[Q4] Footage was shown of David Otunga on Access Hollywood. Jennifer Hudson is just as tall as him. Backstage, Miz chastised Bryan for his horrible performance earlier in the show. He called him the "Susan Boyle" of WWE. Funny. He pleaded with Bryan to go out there and "be a star." Bryan looked motivated... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: I like that the pros are taking it personally when their rookies are not performing very well. Miz could be making fun of Bryan, but instead, he shot him some tough love and gave him one hell of a motivation speech.

2. William Regal (with Skip Sheffield) defeated Daniel Bryan (with The Miz) in 1:23. The announcers mentioned that Regal trained Bryan. Bryan hit a full nelson suplex for a two count. Regal countered a guillotine with a suplex. He hit the running knee for the win...

After the match, Miz knocked Regal from the ring with a left forearm. He then helped Bryan up and hit the Skull Crushing Finale. He left yelling back at Bryan and Bryan had a bloody mouth from Regal's knee...

Twill's Two Cents: Couldn't they at least allow Bryan to wrestle a match without losing in less than two minutes? He had a good match with Chris Jericho that went six or seven minutes but since then, he's been squashed. I am enjoying Miz's reaction to him.

[Overrun] 3. Darren Young defeated Luke Gallows (with C.M. Punk and Serena) in 2:02. Gallows dominated the match but Young won with a surprise rollup. Punk entered the ring and raised the hand of Young. Punk, Serena, and Young left Gallows behind...

Twill's Two Cents: No surprise there as nobody thought they would shave Young's head tonight. I like that Punk's attitude toward Young is changing and for that matter, a lot of the pros are acting more personably (good or bad) toward their rookies.
