3/26 Shore's WWE Smackdown Live Coverage: The Go Home show for Wrestlemania 26, 10-man tag match featuring the MITB entrants, Beth Phoenix vs. Vickie Guerrero, and Big Show vs. R-Truth
Mar 26, 2010 - 07:00 PM

Smackdown on MyNetwork TV
Taped on 3/22/10 in San Jose, Calif.

[Q1] The opening video aired, followed by the Kane’s pyro, and Todd Grisham and Matt Striker welcomed us to Smackdown. Kane and the rest of the MITB participants made their entrance…

1. Team Smackdown (Drew McIntyre, Kane, Shelton Benjamin, Matt Hardy, and Dolph Ziggler) defeated Team Raw (Christian, MVP, Kofi Kingston, Jack Swagger, and Evan Bourne) at 17:08. Ziggler and Kingston started. Kingston hit a quick elbow and covered. Team Smackdown came in for the save, and Team Raw jumped in as well. They all stared off into the break…[C]

Back at 4:41, Hardy and Swagger were in the ring. Hardy hit a bulldog for two and tagged in Benjamin. Swagger snuck in a cheap shot, but refused to tag out. Benjamin hit a kick to the face, and Sewagger tagged Bourne. Bourne came in and hit some kicks. He went to the top for Air Bourne, but Benjamin pulled him to the mat. Both men recovered into the break…

Shore’s Slant: Morrison’s baby fell down the stairs so I missed a little of the match. She seems fine, thanks for asking.

[Q2][C] Back at 11:13, Benjamin worked on Bourne with strikes and tagged Kane. Kane tossed Bourne around and tagged in Hardy. Hardy dropped a fist and covered for two. Ziggler tagged in and kicked Bourne for two. He hit a series of elbows and covered for another near fall. Hardy tagged back in, hit a leg drop, and tagged Ziggler back in. Ziggler charged and Bourne hit a kick to the head.

Christian got the hot tag and worked his offense on Ziggler. He hit the pendulum kick and set up for the Unprettier. McIntyre came in to make the save, and everybody cleared everybody else out. Christian and Ziggler battled and McIntyre got a blind tag. Christian hit the Unprettier, but McIntyre hit the future shock DDT for the win. Post match, McIntyre got a ladder and set it up in the middle of the ring. He started to climb it, but the rest of the men came back and knocked him off. They slammed the ladder on McIntyre and everyone left to Kane’s music…

A video showed stuff at Wrestlemania Axxess as the announce team hyped the women’s match and a promo from Jericho…[C]

Shore’s Slant: That match was a train wreck. It wasn’t so much that the action was bad, but it had two commercials, and I just didn’t care. The live crowd seemed to agree with me as well. My preview and predictions for Wrestlemania, plus and audio preview with Jason and I are up on the main site, as are Marv’s preview and prediction article and his MITB ranking. It’s a good read and you should definitely check out all the preview stuff.

[Q3] More Axxess footage was shown, commentated by Ole King and Cole. GTFO my show! They setup a video that recapped the Edge vs. Chris Jericho feud…The announce team hyped Jericho’s promo and the women’s match again.

Back from commercial, more Axxess footage aired, including a comic cover that was done by Lawler. Wow, he missed his calling…The announce team setup a video that recapped the CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio feud…

[Q4] Back at Smackdown, Josh Matthews asked ShowMiz if they were confident about winning. Miz ran off at the mouth for a while and said Show would knock out Truth tonight…Vickie Guerrero was shown backstage heading toward the ring…[C]

Back from commercial, the WWE Smack of the Night recapped the Beth Phoenix vs. Vickie Guerrero feud…Back ringside, Beth made her entrance. Vickie came out and did her “Excuse me” bit. She changed the match to a five-on-one handicap match. The rest of her crew came out to McCool’s music…

2. Vickie Guerrero and Michelle McCool, Layla, Maryse, and Alicia Fox defeated Beth Phoenix at 2:23. Layla started with Beth. Beth offered for Layla to touch fists to start. Beth grabbed Layla’s hand and attacked. They traded moves and then Beth dragged all the Divas in the ring. They finally got the better of her and McCool kicked Beth in the face. Vickie tagged in for the win.

Post match, they held Beth down for Vickie to do a frog splash. Before she could hit it, Mickie James and some other Divas ran out to make the save. Everybody cleared the ring except for Beth and Vickie. Vickie tried to run, and Beth ripped her pants off to reveal Vickie wearing granny panties with Excuse Me in glitter on the back. Vickie went nuts while Beth laughed…

Shore’s Slant: What the fu…

[Q5][C] Back from commercial, Jericho was introduced and he made his ring entrance. He cut a promo on winning at Mania. He put over Edge as being tough and always coming back from injuries. Jericho said Edge had everything he needed to win at Mania, except for DNA. HE said his DNA was better than Edge’s, and that assured him victory. He went on and on about the DNA and Edge not being 100 percent. He said he would end Edge’s career at Mania. He said when Edge loses, he should blame his DNA.

Edge’s music hit and he ran to the ring. They traded blows and Edge hit a big boot. He setup for the spear, and Jericho rolled out of the ring. Edge picked up the title belt and posed with it as Jericho mouthed off from the ramp…[C]

Shore’s Slant: Not exactly the best Chris Jericho promo, but I think my malaise is mostly from all the crap videos and then that Divas match. Actually, I’m still throwing up from Vickie’s ass and legs and that makes it hard to get my thought down on paper.

[Q6] Back from commercial, a video package showed a WWE initiative that promoted reading…Ole King and Cole took back over and showed more Axxess footage. They setup a video that recapped the Bret Hart vs. Mr. McMahon feud…[C]

Back from commercial, more Axxess stuff with King and Cole. They setup a video package that recapped Cena vs. Batista…

[Q7] The video for Undertaker vs HBK was hyped for next…[C]

Shore’s Slant: See, I used passive voice there. That is a clear violation of good writing. But I don’t care. I hate the Smackdown before Mania.

Back from commercial, a hype video of the first MITB match aired…The Undertaker/HBK video aired…King and Cole hyped Mania some more and sent it back to Smackdown…

[Q8] John Morrison made his ring entrance. He cut a promo and put over Truth and their tag team. Truth made his lame ass entrance. He got in the ring and put over Morrison. They worked their cheesy mic skills and tried to punk ShowMiz. They promised to win and did the, “Truth, whole truth, nothing but…” bit to close out. Show and Miz finally made their entrance…[C]

3. Big Show (w/The Miz) defeated R-Truth (w/John Morrison) by Disqualification at 3:23. The bell rang as soon as the show came back. Show slapped Truth and threw him around the ring. He clubbed Truth for a while and then squashed him in the corner. Truth fought back, but Show hit a fall away slam and went to the second rope. Show missed a nice elbow. Miz jumped on the apron and Morrison attacked. He slammed Miz into the stairs and jumped in the ring.

Show grabbed both by their throats, but they reversed into a double DDT. Truth followed with the scissor kick, and Morrison hit the flying chuck. Miz ran in and Truth hit the lie detector, and Morrison hit Starship pain to end the show…

Shore’s Slant: The hitlist for this show is going to be basically a 180 from my Superstars hitlist. This show sucked. The wrestling we had was either short and shitty, or long and broken up by commercials. What a terrible go home show. I guess the videos hyped Mania, but we could have had a little real wrestling couldn’t we? I’ll have more tomorrow on the hitlist.

Look for Joe Mathieson’s Wrestlemania predictions (sorry I missed you Joe) from earlier this week, and Twill’s and Jason’s predictions tomorrow. And make sure you stick around after Mania Sunday night to hear the first ever Dot Net Triple Threat audio as Jason Powell, Rich Twilling, and myself break down the event. Thanks for reading and I hope you all enjoy Wrestlemania 26.
