3/4 Shore's WWE Superstars Live Coverage: Kofi Kingston vs. Chavo Guerrero, William Regal vs. Evan Bourne, Kane vs. Mike Knox, and Chris Jericho vs. Goldust
Mar 4, 2010 - 07:00 PM |
Superstars on WGN America
Taped in Oklahoma City, Okla. and Wichita, Ks.
[Q1] The opening video aired, followed by the pyro, and Michael Cole and Jerry “The King” Lawler welcomed us to Superstars…Kofi Kingston made his ring entrance. Chavo was out next…
1. Kofi Kingston defeated Chavo Guerrero at 6:38. Good mat wrestling to start led to a flying elbow from Kofi for two. They rolled around for a moment, and then the ref stopped the fight to stop Chavo’s eye from bleding. Chavo attacked when the match restarted, but Kofi scored a leg scissor takedown. Kofi tried to show off with a flip and Chavo hit a kick for two.
Michael Cole admitted a girl broke his nose when he was five. I shit you not. Chavo tossed Kofi to the floor and hit a plancha. He rolled Kofi back in the ring and hit a splash for two. Chavo went to a hammer lock that Kofi almost immediately snapmared out of. Chavo went to the floor, and Kofi hit his own plancha. He hit a high cross body for one, and then a standing drop kick. He did the Boom-Boom leg drop, and setup for Trouble in Paradise. Chavo slid low and rolled Kofi into a half crab. Kofi escaped and hit TIP for the win…The announce team hyped the Jericho vs. Goldust main event…[C]
Shore’s Slant: I guess it was nice to see Kofi get some air time, but beating Chavo on the “L” show is not exactly a big deal. It was a decent match. The stoppage for a tiny amount of blood was a little much, but it’s what we can expect for a while from WWE. I’m pretty sure Gail Kim wearing Hello Kitty on her tiny ass shorts is far more PG than a little bit of blood in a physical event. And is Jericho vs. Goldust a middle finger aimed at me for complaining last week that the show needed star power?
Back from commercial, two Wrestlemania hype videos aired…
Shore’s Slant: Who’s editing this show?
[Q2] Back in the ring, William Regal was already in the ring. Ouch. Bourne made his ring entrance…
2. Evan Bourne defeated William Regal at 4:54. Bourne hit a flying head scissors and a dropkick early, but Regal stayed in control, working ground and pound, for several minutes. At 4:17, Bourne ducked a clothesline and hit a stiff kick to the back. Regal came right back with a slam, but missed the knee trembler. Bourne hit a high knee instead, and followed with Air Bourne for the win…A hype video for the new HBK DVD aired…[C]
Shore’s Slant: Well that was pretty boring. A ton of wrist locks, and then three seconds of offense before the money shot. See, that even sounds like I’m reviewing a porn movie. Dreadful match that almost put me to sleep.
The last commercial was for NXT, and featured David Otunga and R-Truth…Back ringside, Mike Knox was already in the ring. Double Ouch (one for him, one for the beard). Todd Grisham and Matt Striker took over on the headsets as Kane made his ring entrance…
3. Kane defeated Mike Knox at 2:43. Knox started out with punches. Kane returned the favor with a sitting drop kick for two. And then Knox hit the flying bear on Kane for two. That never gets old. Kane came right back and kicked Knox in the face. He hit the clothesline in the corner, and the sidewalk slam for two. Kane went to the top, but Knox hit a big boot to drop Kane to the apron.
[Q3] Knox whipped Kane to the corner and charged. Kane caught him by the throat and hit the chokeslam for the win. Kane popped his pyro and left the ring…The announce team hyped the main event…[C]
Shore’s Slant: Ugh. A two minute big man match from two big man who can actually work. What a shame. I’m so tired of seeing Knox under used. He is so good in the ring, and his promos have not been terrible. I just don’t understand why he is the jobber big man.
Back from commercial, a CM Punk/Straight Edge Society hype video aired…The announce team setup the Raw Rebound video…The announce team ran down the current Mania card…Jericho made his ring entrance…
[Q4][C] Back from commercial, Goldust made his entrance…
4. Chris Jericho defeated Goldust at 9:54. They traded arm drags and Goldust clotheslined Jericho over the top…[C] Back at 5:20, Jericho hit a running insaguri kick for two. Jericho set Goldust on the top rope and tried for a superplex. Goldust fought out and jumped off the top. Jericho drop kicked him out of the air for a great near fall. Jericho locked in a rest hold that Goldust escaped almost immediately. Goldust ran his move set and tried for the bulldog. Jericho pushed off and hit his own bulldog.
Jericho tried for the Lionsault, but Goldust moved. Jericho landed on his feet and hit the ropes. Goldust hit a powerslam for another near fall. Goldust lifted Jericho for the Curtain Call, but Jericho slipped out and locked on the Walls of Jericho for the win. Jericho celebrated up the ramp with his title belt to end the show…
Shore’s Slant: The match started slowly, but built nicely by the end. The live crowd was really hot for the last three or four near falls, and a hot live crowd always makes a match one notch better. The two best matches opened and closed the show. I’ll have more tomorrow on the hitlist. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you then.
