2/18 Shore's WWE Superstars Live Coverage: Chavo Guerrero and Carlito vs. Evan Bourne and Primo Colon, Gail Kim vs. Katie Lea Burchill, and Rey Mysterio vs. Mike Knox
Feb 18, 2010 - 07:00 PM

Superstars on WGN America
Taped in Des Moines, Ia. and Kansas City, Mo.

[Q1] The opening video aired, followed by the pyro, and Michael Cole and Jerry “The King” Lawler, welcomed us to Superstars. They hyped the Mysterio vs. Knox main event…

1. Evan Bourne and Primo defeated Chavo and Carlito at 11:57. Bourne and Carlito started. Carlito got early control and tagged in Chavo. They worked heel on Bourne in the corner. Chavo did a test of strength with Bourne, and Bourne hit a hurricanranna to escape. Bourne hit some quick flying strikes and covered for two. He tried to tag out, but Chavo stopped him. Primo finally made the hot tag and went on offense. Carlito got a cheap shot in on Primo while the ref was distracted. He tagged in and worked Primo into the break…[C]

Back at 8:05, Chavo had a rest hold on Primo. Chavo took out Bourne and hit the Gory Bomb on Primo. He covered, but Bourne made it back to break it up at two. Primo made the hot tag and Bourne cleaned up. Carlito ran in and Primo hit a backstabber on him. Chavo tried for another Gory bomb on Bourne, but Bourne escaped and hit a knee to the face. He followed with the Shooting Star Press for the win…

9Q2] The Antonio Inoki HOF video played…Gail Kim was shown heading towards the ring…[C]

Shore’s Slant: Fun match to open. I hate covering the quick guys, too much to try and type all at once. This feud doesn’t help anyone, but I’ll take the fun match ups as long as they will have them.

Back from commercial, Gail Kim made her entrance. Katie Lea was out next. Cole announced during entrance that Bret Hart had suffered a broken leg from the accident Monday. He said there would be a review of the event on Smackdown tomorrow night…

2. Gail Kim defeated Katie Lea Burchill at 4:06. Kim started quickly, but Katie Lea tossed her shoulder first into the pole. Katie worked the arm with stomps and rest holds. Kim fought back and hit several clotheslines and a flying cross body for two. She hit her splash in the corner and a missile drop kick for two. Kim tried for her finisher, but Katie poorly hit a running insaguri. Katie whipped Kim to the corner and charged. Kim moved away, Katie hit the corner, and Kim hit her finisher for the win. Post match, Maryse came out and applauded Kim from the ramp…

[Q3] The announce team hyped the main event…[C]

Shore’s Slant: A slow and plodding match, but one of the better Diva’s matches we have had in a while. It doesn’t make me want to see Kim and Maryse on Sunday, but I appreciate the try.

Back from commercial, a Chris Jericho hype video aired…

Shore’s Slant: First Cena and now Jericho? This better be WWE building him up to be credible with a win on Sunday. This spot should ALWAYS go to a mid-card guy, new kid, or injury returning star. Top stars don’t need this hype.

Todd Grisham and Matt Striker took over on commentary and setup a new Elimination Chamber hype video. They then ran down just the EC matches…Rey Mysterio made his ring entrance…[C]

Back from commercial, Mike Knox was finishing his ring entrance.

[Q4] 3. Rey Mysterio defeated Mike Knox 14:01. The first 30 seconds or so were in the last quarter hour. Knox back Rey in the corner with a tie up and broke dirty. Knox pounded on him with stomps and clotheslines in the corner. Grisham said he hoped Mysterio didn’t have pogonophobia—the fear of beards. I shit you not. Rey tried to fight back and Knox hit a big clothesline and leg drop for two.

Knox continued his attack and hit a big boot for two. Rey tried for a springboard attack, but Knox grabbed him and hit a backbreaker. Knox put a knee in Mysterio’s back and pulled the arms back. Rey fought out and hit a head scissor into a 619 setup. Knox went to the floor and Rey tried for a West Coast Pop. Knox caught him and drove him into the post. Rey recovered into the break…[C]

Back at 8:57, Knox was still working the back. A video recapped the powerbomb to the post before the break. Rey fought out, but Knox lifted him in a torture rack and then dropped into a backbreaker for two. Knox worked the back with a bearhug. Rey escaped and kicked Knox. Knox charged at him and Rey pulled the ropes down, spilling Knox to the floor. Rey hit a West Coast Pop on the floor from the top turnbuckle.

He rolled Knox into the ring and hit a springboard leg drop for two. Rey tried for his bulldog, but Knox pushed him off and hit the flying bear for two. He slammed Mysterio, but missed the following knee drop. Rey went on the attack and hit a drop kick to the knee to setup 629. He followed with a springboard splash for the win. Post match, Rey celebrated in the ring…

Shore’s Slant: Not a great match, but very entertaining, and they told a good story. Knox should be world champion. He is better than any big man in the company and one of the best I have seen at his size. Rey Mysterio always does well in these matches, and we saw these two have good matches in their very short feud. Good way to end the show. I’ll have more to say tomorrow on the hitlist. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you then.
