2/16 Twilling's WWE "ECW on Syfy" Live Coverage: The final ECW show, Christian vs. Ezekiel Jackson for the ECW Championship in an Extreme Rules match, NXT roster revealed
Feb 16, 2010 - 09:00 PM

WWE "ECW on Syfy"
Taped earlier tonight in Kansas City, Mo.

[Q1] A few highlights of classic ECW footage was aired. "ECW is over," said the narrator. He plugged tonight's Christian vs. Ezekiel Jackson match. The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the stage. Josh Mathews and Byron Saxton welcomed us to the final episode of ECW...

Twill's Two Cents: Well, if anyone expected a proper farewell, don't hold your breath.

The announcers talked about the first episode of NXT next week and revealed the cast would be announced tonight. In case you missed it earlier, there will be eight young guys paired with eight veterans...

The Miz and Big Show made their way to the ring to defend the unified tag team championships. Highlights of Miz pinning Shawn Michaels to win the belts were shown...

1. The Miz and Big Show defeated Goldust and Yoshi Tatsu for the WWE Unified Tag Team Championships in 9:32. Miz was double teamed by Goldust and Yoshi early on. Show made a blind tag and took control of the match by headbutting an unsuspecting Goldust from behind... [C]

Miz was in control of Goldust coming back from commercial. Show and Yoshi tagged in and Show dominated his smaller opponent. Show and Miz tagged in and out and isolated Yoshi on their half of the ring. Goldust made the hot tag and hit several moves on Miz. With the referee distracted, Show punched Goldust in the stomach. Miz hit the SCF for the win...

Twill's Two Cents: It was nice to see a tag team championship match on ECW for the first time in a very long time. Other than that, there was nothing overly standout about the match. Solid opener.

[Q2] The first rookie for NXT will be Wade Barrett, and his pro is Chris Jericho. Justin Gabriel is the second rookie and Matt Hardy will be mentoring him...

Twill's Two Cents: I wonder if it will be all Smackdown guys mentoring the young guys. This will have some potential because we'll be able to tell right away whether or not someone will be able to get over. I'm glad they are using top guys.

Tiffany addressed the crowd from the back. She started to comment about the NXT show but was interrupted by Zack Ryder and Rosa Mendes. Zack asked why he was not in the main event tonight. Rosa yelled at Tiffany in Spanish. Tiffany said, "I don't care what language you ask in, the answer is no." Zack said he would involve himself because the match will be extreme rules... [C]

A commercial for NXT aired. Skip Sheffield was announced as the third rookie with MVP as his mentor...

Tony Atlas introduced The Abraham Washington Show from the ring. Abe talked about being a free agent and how Raw and Smackdown will have to offer him big money to acquire his services. He introduced his last guest, himself. Tony laughed. Shelton Benjamin's music hit and he came out to the ring.

[Q3] Shelton said everyone was a free agent. Vance Archer came down and told Shelton if they ended up on the same show, Shelton wouldn't have a future. Trent Baretta and Caylen Croft came to the ring. Vladimir Kozlov followed. Kozlov spoke in Russian. Archer said nobody could understand him. Kozlov and Benjamin cleared the ring. They shook hands...

Twill's Two Cents: Was that a ring full of guys that WWE could give their walking papers to? Seriously, Tony Atlas was the most over person in the ring. Hopefully that was the last of The Abraham Washington Show.

Michael Tarver was announced as the next NXT rookie and Carlito will be his mentor. Christian vs. Ezekiel Jackson was hyped... [C]

Daniel Bryan (former ROH Champion Bryan Danielson) will be mentored by The Miz. They said Bryan has the most experience of the "rookies," but did not mention ROH by name...

Twill's Two Cents: I hope they use Bryan as a heel, so him having Miz as a mentor might bode well for his character. Of course, the idea that he needs a mentor is ridiculous.

A video hyping the Elimination Chamber aired. The announcers hyped both championship matches for the pay-per-view on Sunday...

Heath Slater was announced as the next NXT rookie with Christian as his mentor. Christian then made his ring entrance with a shopping cart full of weapons. Christian said he has been back for a year and when he returned to WWE, many felt he should have "made more of an impact."

He said many people felt being in ECW was a demotion for him. However, he did not see it that way. He felt ECW was home to him. He mentioned Tommy Dreamer by name and said he was fighting tonight for every ECW original who "wanted those three letters to mean something." He said it would be an honor to be the last ECW Champion ever... [C]

Twill's Two Cents: Good promo. Christian honored ECW more in that promo than Vince McMahon did throughout the entire run of this show. Honestly, I expected at least a video package from this show, but it looks like WWE just wants to move forward as quickly as possible.

[Q4] C.M. Punk will be mentoring Darren Young on the NXT show. Young has a lot of hair, so I wonder if it will end up getting shaved off...

2. Ezekiel Jackson (with William Regal) defeated Christian to win the ECW Championship in 11:24.. Savannah handled the in ring introductions. Christian hit Zeke in the hand with a kendo stick. Zack Ryder attacked Christian but was pancaked onto a garbage can.

Rosa Mendes slapped Christian. Tiffany, in the world's shortest skirt, hit the ring and speared Rosa. Zack tried to get Rosa out of there as Tiffany yelled at them... [C]

Back from commercial, Zeke pushed Christian to the floor from the top rope. He used the steps to his advantage, but then Christian hit a dropkick into a garbage can Zeke was holding from the steps. Zeke then whipped Christian into a shopping cart.

[Overrun] Christian hit a high cross body for a two count. Zeke went to the floor and pulled out a table, but Christian drop kicked it into both Zeke and Regal. In the ring, Jackson set up a table for a superplex. Christian countered with a tornado DDT attempt but did not hit it.

Christian hit Zeke with a kendo stick and then ran William Regal off. Regal came back and Christian hit him with the Killswitch. Jackson used the distraction to hit the super rock bottom through the table for the win...

After the match, Zeke and Regal posed with the belt. The announcers hyped NXT show. David Otunga is the final rookie and R-Truth will be his mentor. The final shot was Regal holding up Jackson's hand at the top of the stage...

Twill's Two Cents: Well, since they said Jackson is the last ECW Champion, the belt will be retired and I guess Zeke will not be a champion on another show. I guess ECW went out the same way the WWE version of ECW came in, with a whimper. The first WWE ECW show was bad, and this one felt like everyone was halfway out the door already. It looks like NXT will be a "Tough Enough" like show, so I am looking forward to it.

What did you think of the final ECW show and/or ECW in general? Feel free to let me know what you thought about ECW or what you think about the new NXT show by shooting an email to dotnetrich@gmail.com.
