2/12 Shore's WWE Smackdown Live Coverage: Rey Mysterio vs. C.M. Punk, Three matches featuring the Elimination Chamber entrants, and The Undertaker vs. Chris Jericho in a non-title, no disqualification match
Feb 12, 2010 - 07:00 PM

Smackdown on MyNetwork TV
Taped on 2/9/10 in Baton Rouge, La.

[Q1]The opening video aired, followed by the pyro, and Todd Grisham and Matt Striker welcomed us to Smackdown. They hyped the main event and John Morrison vs. R-Truth…Rey Mysterio’s music hit, and he made his ring entrance. Punk and the SES where out next…

1. Rey Mysterio defeated CM Punk (w/The Straight Edge Society) at 14:55. The men traded moves early. Punk tossed Rey to the floor. Rey rolled through and slid back in the ring. Punk slid out and Mysterio teased a plancha. Gallows and Serena checked on Punk into the break…[C]

Back at 7:02 Punk hit a clothesline for two. Mysterio used his legs to flip Punk over the top rope, and followed a plancha. Gallows distracted Rey, and Punk back suplexed him into the crowd. Punk pushed Rey back in and hit a diving blow for two. Rey crawled to the corner and Punk hit a baseball slid into Rey, into the post.

Rey rolled to the floor and Punk attacked him there. He rolled Rey back in the ring and covered. Rey kicked out and Punk locked in a modified surfboard. Rey popped out and covered for one. Punk lifted him and almost botched a backbreaker for two…

[Q2]Punk charged at Rey in the corner and Rey hit a drop toe hold. He went to the top, but Punk swept the legs and tied Rey in the tree of woe. Punk tried for a baseball slide, but Rey sat up and Punk went balls in to the post. Mysterio went on his offense and hit a springboard cross body for two.

Rey setup Punk for 619, but Serena climbed on the apron. The ref yelled at her and Gallows tried to attack from behind. Rey hit a hangman on Gallows. Punk recovered and lifted Rey for GTS. Rey reversed into a hurricanranna pin for the win. Post match, Gallows destroyed Mysterio before Punk hit GTS. The SES left Rey lying in the ring…[C]

Shore’s Slant: Wow. I was fighting server problems when the show started, but what I saw of that match was really good. This just goes to show why the Smackdown EC match will be better than Raw. And I love the heat Punk and company earned with that beat down.

Back from commercial, the announce team recapped the Mysterio beating…Drew McIntyre made his ring entrance to a new entrance theme and video. He cut a promo on being the undefeated Intercontinental Champion. He said he was unstoppable and didn’t care who his challenger was. Kane’s pyro popped and he made his entrance. McIntyre said he didn’t have anything to prove and Kane could have a match next week. The ref rang the bell…

[Q3] 2. Drew McIntyre and Kane fought to a double countout at 6:56. Kane kicked McIntyre in the mouth and spilled him to the floor. He rolled McIntyre back in and beat on him until McIntyre rolled to the floor to recover…[C] Back at 3:40, McIntyre had an arm bar on Kane. A video showed McIntyre pushing Kane down to the security rail during the break. Kane escaped, but McIntyre hit a clothesline for one.

Kane hit a surprise suplex to retake control. He hit the clothesline in the corner, and the sidewalk slam for two. Kane hit the clothesline from the top and called for the choke slam. McIntyre kicked the knee, but Kane grabbed his throat again. McIntyre slipped out again, and Kane clotheslined them both to the floor. Kane beat on McIntyre and the ref counted them both out.

Postmatch, Kane rolled Drew back in the ring. He climbed in, and McIntyre took him out with a big boot. He grabbed the IC belt and tried to hit Kane with it. Kane grabbed the throat and hit a chokeslam instead. He laid the title on McIntyre and popped his pyro…

Backstage, LayCool found Mickie at the food table. They traded insults and McCool held out a tray of cottage cheese, begging for Mickie to eat it. Mickie slapped it away. LayCool looked shocked and Mickie turned around. Vickie Guerrero stood there covered in cottage cheese. Mickie tried to apologize and Vickie went ape shit. Mickie ran off and LayCool tried to comfort Vickie…[C]

Shore’s Slant: Damn, Smackdown is bringing it two weeks in a row. Fun match with Kane and McIntyre, and I like the feud. The backstage segment was so stupid. I can’t believe Vickie came back for this.

Back from commercial, a video package recapped Mickie’s win of the title. LayCool, or the Beautiful People 2.0, made their entrance…

3. Michelle McCool and Layla defeated Mickie James in a handicap match at 2:59. This started out as Layla vs. Mickie. Vickie came out at 0:39 to announce it was a handicap match.

[Q4] McCool got in the ring and Mickie beat up both heels, but McCool finally hit the Faithbreaker for the win…Postmatch, Batista was shown backstage heading towards the ring…[C]

Shore’s Slant: So Vickie was covered in cottage cheese so she could set up a handicap match the face almost won? Remind me never to work for Vince. He completely buries you if you leave and come back.

Back from commercial, the announce team setup a video that recapped Batista’s beat down of Hart and Cena, and his walking out of the EC qualifier match last week. In the ring, Josh Matthews introduced Batista who made his ring entrance. Striker said Batista had asked for this time.

Josh Matthews took 600 words to ask him WTF. Batista took the mic and glared at Matthews, who promptly left the ring. The crowd chanted for Cena. Batista climbed the turnbuckle and sat there. He climbed down and started to raise the mic, but stopped.

[Q5] Batista left the ring with the mic and walked around the ring until he came to some fan who had a Cena shirt on. The fan did “You can’t see me,” and Batista smiled. He climbed back in the ring, dropped the mic, and left to serious heat. Batista yelled at the crowd and stormd back into the ring. He grabbed the mic, and then dropped it again. He left the ring and went backstage…

The announce team hyped the Truth vs. Morrison match, and the Jericho vs. Taker no DQ match…[C]

Shore’s Slant: That was the best promo I have ever seen from Batista. OK, that’s kind of a shot, but I really mean it. When he came back to the ring, I was yelling at the TV that creative had come so close only to screw it up again. But when he dropped the mic and left, I looked at my wife and smiled. Excellent segment from Batista. I am diggin the heel.

Back room commercial, Teddy Long made his entrance to the ramp. He said since Batista didn’t compete last week, and didn’t want to talk this week, then he would compete against Edge. He said it would happen, “Right here on Smackdown.” But it looks to be next week…

Matt Hardy, Khali, and Mini-Me made their entrance. Hardy wished everyone a happy Valentine’s Day, and introduced his Valentines…Maria. She made her ring entrance. The Harts were out next. Anybody see where this is going…

4. Matt Hardy (w/Maria) and The Great Khali (w/Ranjin Singh) defeated The Hart Dynasty at 2:07. Smith and Khali started. Smith tagged immediately and went to the floor. Kidd asked him WTF, and Khali tossed him into the ring. Khali tagged out and Matt went to work. Kidd reversed a whip and Natalya grabbed Matt’s leg. Maria ran over and attacked Natalya. Everyone stopped to watch and Matt reversed a rollup with one of his own for the win…The Ted DiBiase HOF video package aired…

Shore’s Slant: What’s the word I’m looking for to describe that match……oh yeah……fail.

[Q6][C] Back from commercial, the Raw Rebound video aired…The announce team ran down the EC matches…They setup a video that recapped the Rey beat down from earlier…R-Truth made his lame ass entrance…[C]

Back from commercial, Truth did his, “What’s up,” bit but said, “Who dat?” Cheap heat. Morrison was out next…

5. R-Truth defeated John Morrison by referee stoppage at 0:51. They shook hands to start, and Morrison hit a shoulder tackle. They ran the ropes, and Morrison rolled over Truth’s back. He landed awkwardly, and the ref stopped the match…

[Q7]The announce team hyped the main event…[C]

Shore’s Slant: Before anyone freaks, we have confirmed that the ankle injury was either a tweak or a work because Morrison has been wrestling since then. This could be the way Shawn Michaels gets in the EC, or he could have just rolled it and thought it was worse than it was. We’ll have to wait and see.

Back from commercial, Edge was introduced and came to the ring. He cut a promo on being the Rumble winner. He put over different people who could be champions after the EC. He called CM Punk the love child of Brutus Beefcake and Charles Manson. He specifically called out the Undertaker and his streak. He said he didn’t know who he would face then, but that he would face Batista next week.

Jericho’s music hit and he came to the ring. Jericho said Edge never mentioned him as a potential opponent at Mania. He said he knew why, he was a bad luck charm for Edge. He said he didn’t know what it was like to make a triumphant return from injury because he doesn’t get injured. He said he won championships and carried the company on his back. He said Edge should pick the Raw winner and stay away from him, because otherwise bad things would happen to Edge again.

[Q8]Jericho said if there was any doubt, watch what happens when he bates the man Edge was destroyed by at Mania two years ago. He said he would beat the Undertaker tonight. Hell’s Bells tolled and the Undertaker made his long ass entrance…[C]

Shore’s Slant: Jericho vs. Edge is going to steal the show at Mania. You heard it here first.

6. Chris Jericho defeated The Undertaker in a no disqualification match at 7:33. Edge joined on commentary. Jericho ran and Taker gave chase. He finally caught Jericho and did the leg drop on the apron. He worked Jericho on the floor and rolled him back in the ring. He worked the arm while Striker tried to get Edge to say what title he would go for. Edge refused to answer.

Taker tried for Old School, but Jericho swept the legs. Jericho climbed up and hit a second rope superplex for two. Jericho locked on a rest hold that Taker punched out of. Taker whipped Jericho to the corner and hit Snake Eyes, the big boot, and the leg drop for two. He called for the chokeslam, but Jericho rolled to the floor.

Jericho stood at the announce table and mouthed at Edge. Taker attacked from behind and stared at Edge. Edge stood and Taker nodded. Taker grabbed Jericho and tossed him at Edge. Edge moved out of the way and yelled at Taker. Taker rolled Jericho back in the ring and then hit a big boot on Edge. In the ring, Jericho took the padding off the turnbuckle after attacking Undertaker on his way back in the ring. He turned into a chokslam attempt. He reversed into a rollup. Taker kicked out and Jericho hit the exposed turnbuckle.

Taker lifted Jericho and hit the Last Ride. He turned, and Edge speared him. Edge left the ring with a small cut on his cheek. Taker sat up and grabbed Jericho. Jericho reversed into a Codebreaker for the win. Jericho left the ring quickly and celebrated up the ramp. A replay of the ending closed the show…

Shore’s Slant: A really good match to close the show. They did a lot with the time given, and Edge’s tweener character is perfect right now. This way, if Taker or Jericho wins, we can see a feud with Edge. Nicely written. I’ll have moiré to say tomorrow on the hitlist. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you then.
