2/5 Hermanstyne's WWE Smackdown Live Coverage: Elimination Chamber qualifiers, Royal Rumble results, Edge hosts the Cutting Edge
Feb 5, 2010 - 07:00 PM

WWE Friday Night Smackdown on MyNetworkTV
Taped in Memphis, TN

[Q1] The show began with the return of Edge at the Royal Rumble and promoted the return with the Cutting Edge and the guest was Taker. The opening montage was shown and the announcers hyped the elimination chamber matches and the end of Raw after Raw ended. Chris Jericho made his entrance and he said that he should be the Rumble winner. He should be preparing the main event because he was preparing for the last ten months. He said it was take away from him by Edge. He said that the fact that Edge won the Rumble and he didn’t deserve it because he didn’t deserve it. He mentioned how he recovered it and he talked about Edge taking the spotlight. He called Edge a con artist and said the same man that he has no heart and he left him stranded.

He said that he has nothing and he is too good to be left with nothing. He said that Long has to tell him that he had to qualify and he is the face of SD. And he demanded for Long to come out. He said that he will come to see him and he is too valuable. He asked others where was Long’s office and someone with a newspaper was there. Edge was the guys and asked him and said that he eliminated him from the Rumble. He thanked Jericho and said he created a monster. Jericho said he will regret that he came back and Edge said that he will regret that he came back and he will bring back the Cutting Edge. He mentioned that he will have Taker on the show and Jericho threw the paper back at him.

Mind of Marv: Good opening to the show. These guys is automatic money to WWE. I really want this match at WM26.

1. John Morrison defeated Kane and Intercontinental Champion Drew McIntyre in a triple threat match to earn a spot in the Elimination Chamber match in 8:20. All three men attacked each other to start the match. Kane tried to choke both men but they both attacked Kane. Kane threw both men out of the ring. [C]

The show returned with Drew beating on Kane. Kane came back with an uppercut. Kane hit a low dropkick on Drew for an nearfall. Morrison worked on Drew but Drew countered with a til-o-whirl backbreaker for an nearfall. Kane got on the top rope but Morrison countered with a bicycle kick. Drew went for a super plex but Kane knocked him off and Morrison countered with a Double Chuck Kick. Drew and Morrison worked on each other. Morrison hit a DDT on Drew for a nearfall.

Kane hit multiple clotheslines on Morrison and Drew, and Kane hit a sidewalk slam for a nearfall. Kane went to the top ropes an d hit a choke slam. Drew hit Kane with the IC title and a DDT. Morrison hit Starship Pain on Kane to get the win. The announcers hyped the Cutting Edge segment, next…[C]

Mind of Marv: This was a good match to kick the show off. These guys can all work together quite nicely. No problems on this end…

[Q3] 2. R-Truth defeated Mike Knox in an Elimination Chamber qualifier in 1:40. They locked up to start the match and Knox hit a crossbody for a nearfall. Knox dominated for multiple nearfalls. Truth hit a dropkick and hit and his finisher to win the match.

Mind of Marv: What a way to officially bury Knox…sigh.

The Raw rebound was shown and the announcers hyped the video of what happened to Raw on Monday. Batista came back and destroyed Cena on the stairs. The Straight Edge Society was watching and Punk gave a promo. Punk said tonight he will face Batista. He said Batista has the heart, but he will not find the way to win. He asked the SES what will they do to protect him and Gallows said he will stick his head in fire to protect him.

Punk vs. Batista is next…[C]

[Q4]3. C.M. Punk defeated Batista by countout in an Elimination Chamber qualifier in 1:48. Both men were cocky about facing each other. Batista left the ring and got counted out.

Mind of Marv: What the hell was this?? Batista gloated how bad he wanted to be world champ and he left and get counted out??? WTF???

Matt Hardy and Maria ran into each other. Hardy congratulated Maria for being on Celebrity Apprentice. Matt made his entrance. [C]

4. Chris Jericho beat Matt Hardy in an Elimination Chamber qualifier in 7:00. Both men locked up and Jericho shoved Matt. Grisham said that Jericho been in 5 EC matches. Matt took advantage and hit a clothesline on Jericho. Matt tossed Jericho outside of the ring. Jericho kicked Hardy into the ringsteps. Matt struggled getting in the count of nine. Jericho applied an half Nelson to Matt. Matt went for an rollup for a nearfall twice for an nearfall. Matt hit an neckbreaker for an nearfall.

Matt hit an clothesline and bulldog for a nearfall. Matt hit the elbow and went for a clothesline but Jericho countered with a Lionsault for a nearfall. Matt hit the side effect for a nearfall. Jericho went for a rollup for a nearfall. Jericho applied the Walls of Jericho but Matt countered for a nearfall. Matt went for the Twist of Fate but Jericho countered for with the Codebreaker for the nearfall.

Mind of Marv: Good match, I enjoyed it for the most part. It was a predictable winner, but Matt put on a good match with Jericho.

Edge with the Cutting Edge is later…[C]

[Q5] WWE rewind was the McCool vs. Mickie match which showed that Mickie winning the women’s title. Chimel introduced Mickie as the new champion. Mickie said ever since she went to SD, McCool and Layla made her look bad. But she said at the Rumble, she did it and that being real is what a new champion is what goes around comes around…and Beth Phoenix came out. Video was shown of Beth eliminating Khali at the Rumble.

Beth said she made history by being in the Rumble. She said she is in the league of her own and Mickie had her moment in the sun. She basically challenged Mickie for the belt. Mockie said if she wanted a match, she should ask and Vickie came out to interrupt and said the match was not happening and she will determine if the match was happening. She said since they want to compete, McCool and Layla will face Mickie and Beth.

[Q6] 5. Mickie James and Beth Phoenix defeated Michelle McCool and Layla in 2:40. Beth and McCool started the match. Beth pressed McCool and worked on McCool in the corner. McCool started on beth;s leg for a nearfall. Beth knocked Layla out and beat the hell out on McCool and tagged Mickie. Beth knocked Mickie out and stared at McCool and knocked her the hell out. Beth left the match and Layla tried the cheap roll up but Mickie pinned Layla to end the match.

Mind of Marv: Diva filler bullcrap. The storyline continues. But Mickie still looks good overall. Nothing much to talk about here…

Cryme Tyme’s Word Up was shown and the word it…King.

The Kings were BB King, Elvis and Jerry “The King” Lawler and the King popped up.

Mind of Marv: EPIC FAIL for the segment, enough said…[C]

[Q7] 6. Rey Mysterio beat Dolph Ziggler in an elimination chamber qualifier in 10:40. Dolph had the early advantage and clotheslined Rey for a nearfall. Rey went for a nearfall and they both exchanged blows. Rey knocked Dolph out and hit a springboard splash outside of the ring. Rey threw Dolph outside of the ring and went for a splash but Dolph hit a dropkick for a nearfall. Rey set Dolph for a 619, but Dolph moved out of the way. [C]

The show returned with Dolph taking the advantage. Both men exchanged blows and Dolph hit a super plex for a nearfall. Dolph continued with the attack on Rey. Rey hit an drop toe hold on Dolph and hit a cinton on Dolph and kicked the hell out of Dolph for a nearfall. Rey hit a bulldog on Dolph for a nearfall. Dolph took control and countered a power slam for a nearfall. Dolph hit an backbreaker and Rey countered into a rollup for a nearfall. Afterwards, Rey hit an 619 on Dolph.

Mind of Marv: OK match, but again…this was a very predictable outcome. But overall, this is an fresh EC match and it will be better than Raw.

The Cutting Edge is next. [C]

Edge makes a good reaction and he said it was really good to back. He said it feels good to be back. He said back in July, he threw his Achilles and every ounce of energy, was worth to come back to WWE. Punk interrupted and said he was the first to make Taker tap out and he made everyone attempt to challenge to Pledge to Straightedge anthem. He put himself over as the winner of the EC match. Bell Tolls came to ringing and….

Taker beat on Punk and Edge speared Jericho. Taker choke slammed Jericho and Edge and Taker stared at each other to end the show…

Mind of Marv: Excellent ending to the show. All of these guys would make an hell of a fatal four way match for the world title and proves why SD is the dominate brand. Overall, good show and gets an A-. WWE has finally take effort to making this show better than Raw.
