[Q1] A video showed the garbage ending to Alberto Del Rio vs. Sheamus at SummerSlam, as well as the Del Rio vs. Randy Orton match on Raw...The show opened cold with Randy Orton's music. Michael Cole checked in on commentary as Orton made his way to the ring. Orton cut a promo and said it was too bad that Del Rio thought his loss om Raw was tainted. He said he deserved to face Sheamus at Night of Champions. Orton said some people on Twitter didn't agree with him, and he dared any of them to come out and disagree with him.
Sheamus's music hit and he came to the ring. He said he wasn't out there with Orton. He said Del Rio had had and blown every chance. He said not only did he agree that Orton should be first in line, he wanted him to be first in line. Booker T's music hit and he came to the ring. He put over how big Orton vs. Sheamus would be and asked if the fans wanted it. He started to tell Orton he would always have a place in line, but Del Rio cut him off with no music.
Del Rio came to the ring complaining and went on and on, cutting Booker T off several times, about how Sheamus was a criminal and cheater and Orton was a snake. He said Booker was just like Sheamus, a criminal and a cheat. Booker finally calmed him down and said to let him finish. He said Orton would always have a place in line, but the next person in line was Del Rio.
Del Rio applauded and Booker said, "That was until you came out here running your mouth and flapping your gums." He said instead, they would have a rematch from Monday of Del Rio vs. Orton, and the winner would be the number one contender. He said his catch phrase to Del Rio and left. Del Rio left Sheamus and Orton in the ring...
Michael Cole was alone on commentary and showed Josh Matthews tweet and the video of Kane killing him... Ryback made his ring entrance...
Shore's Slant: Fine beginning but it isn't a very exciting story. I appreciate the effort to get the title over, but Sheamus and Del Rio are stale and bland, and Orton still thinks he is a heel. Hopefully this leads to a turn for him.
[Q2][C] Teddy Long joined Cole on commentary and said there would be a different announcer for each match. Jinder Mahal made his ring entrance as a video showed Mahal jumping Ryback on Raw...
1. Ryback vs. Jinder Mahal. Long and Cole bickered like hell to start the match while Mahal got in some offense. Ryback powered back abd got the crowd chanting "Feed me more." He hit the big clothesline and his finisher for the win...[C]
Ryback defeated Jinder Mahal at 2:48.
The first commercial was for the new Saturday Morning Slam...[C]
Shore's Slant: Well, at least the Mahal vs. Ryback feud is over and maybe we can get a real feud for Ryback. Oh, and now we get to hear Cole bicker with a bunch of different people. Oh good. I thought we might actually get decent commentary for one night and we all know that shit isn't allowed.
A video showed Kaitlyn winning the battle royal on Raw. Alicia Fox was in the ring. Layla made her ring entrance...
[Q3] 2. Alicia Fox vs. Layla. Alicia took control almost immediately and worked the leg with the brace on it. Layla hit a weak roundhouse out of nowhere for the sudden win...
Layla defeated Alicia Fox at 2:06.
Post-match, Kaitlyn got in the ring and her and Layla looked at the ttle belt. Layla stuck her hand out. Kaitlyn shook it and then they hugged. Eve's music hit and she came to the ring. She looked at both of them, and then held their hands up while smiling. The two other women looked very confused...The end of Raw was hyped for next...[C]
Shore's Slant: Wow. Who knew Layla had such strong kicks that a bad one can put an unwinded opponent away? Amazing. And if you didn't know, he Eve thing is a swerve. She's still bad.
A recap of the end of Raw aired...Backstage, Dolph Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero talked about Ziggler beating Jericho on Raw. Sheamus walked up and told them there was no time like the present to cash in the briefcase. Ziggler told him he would decide when he cashed in and if Sheamus was champion, he would never see it coming. Teddy walked up and told them they were booked in a match later...Sin Cara made his ring entrance...
Shore's Slant: This show is dragging badly.
[Q4][C] Back from commercial, Cody Rhodes was on commentary with his caricature of Sin Cara. Heath Slater made his ring entrance...
3. Sin Cara vs. Heath Slater. They turned on the Sin Cara lighting, and Cara got in a number of high spots early. They went to the floor and Sin Cara hit a dive. Slater shoved Cara into the ring and then rolled him in. The ref admonished Slater for some reason, and Cody ran over and turned the mask around. Slater used the distraction to hit a reverse DDT for the win...
Heath Slater defeated Sin Car at 2:36.
Post-match, Cody attacked Sin Cara and tried to take the mask off until refs broke it up... The Sheamus vs. Ziggler match was hyped for next...[C]
Shore's Slant: A Cody sucks chant broke out after the post-match attack so maybe this is getting over. I don't think it's a great feud, but maybe the masses are buying it.
Back from commercial, Sheamus was already in the ring. Vickie introduced Dolph, and then joined Cole on commentary...
4. Sheamus vs. Dolph Ziggler (w/Vickie Guerrero). Vickie was way too quiet on commentary to be heard. Sheamus started out fast, but Ziggler hit a hangman on the ropes when he tried for the clubbing forearms to take control.
[Q5] Ziggler put on the sleeper and Sheamus shrugged him off. Sheamus hit a couple of clotheslines and finally got in his forearms. He setup for the Brogue kick, but Ziggler dove into the corner. Vickie took him the briefcase and Ziggler hit Sheamus with it to cause the DQ.
Sheamus defeated Dolph Ziggler by disqualification at 5:03.
Post-match, Ziggler beat the crap out of Sheamus with the briefcase. He took 30 minutes to explain he was cashing in the briefcase, so Sheamus recovered and Ziggler grabbed the briefcase and left without the match occurring...[C]
Shore's Slant: A basic match that didn't try to do too much. I like the idea of Ziggler using the chance to put Sheamus in a precarious situation, but I thought he looked like an idiot telling the ref he wanted to cash in RIGHT NOW about fifty times.
The Wade Barrett vignette aired...Santino Marella made his entrance as a video recapped his loss of the US Title at SummerSlam. Santino cut a promo about being the champion for a specific amount of time down to the second. He said he had felt less like an American this week, which he hated because he liked feeling like an American. He cut a joke about apple pie and then said he felt like he let everyone down by losing the title. He said people had been asking if he and the cobra could work well together again, and then he said he would ask him right now.
[Q6] Santino put the sock on and talked to it about losing the title. He quoted Robert De Niro from one of the Fokker movies, and then Rocky from the end of Rocky IV. Thankfully, Antonio Cesaro's new music cut him off. Cesaro came out and said "winner" in five languages.
Shore's Slant: There's a French word for winner? Color me surprised.
Cesaro said he was the perfect embodiment of a winner. Santino left the ring and attacked Cesaro. He beat him up and then setup the cobra. The cobra dragged him over while Aksana made kissy faces at it. Santino and the cobra argued until Cesaro attacked him from behind. Cesaro left Santino lying...[C]
Shore's Slant: Do you have any idea how hard it is going to be not to cuss about this during audio tomorrow? The cobra has a life of its own? Did that ever happen with Mr. Socko? This shit is terrible.
The Prime Time Players joined commentary and they made fun of Cole. Primo, Epico, and Rosa were in the ring. The tag champs were out next...
5. Primo and Epico (w/Rosa) vs. Kofi Kingston and R-Truth. Titus pretended to be Booker T a few times, which was kind of funny. The match broke down quickly, and Kofi took out Epico. Primo tried to hit the backstabber, but Truth held on to the ropes. He followed with the lie detector for the win. Post-match, Cole did the "Millions of Dollars" gimmick with the PTP...
Kofi Kingston and R-Truth defeated Epico and Primo at 2:21.
The trailer for The Day aired...Backstage, Matt Striker asked the tag champs about who should be next. The PTP walked up and said they should be next. The Usos walked up and said it should be them. So did Epico and Primo and Justin Gabriel and Tyson Kidd. Everybody argued until Kofi and Truth threw punches and a brawl broke out...
[Q7] Cole hyped a recap of Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H for next...[C]
Shore's Slant: I really, really want to get excited about this because of my love of tag team wrestling, but 1) we just saw a two minute match and 2) WWE never delivers on tag teams.
Backstage, Booker T asked Teddy who should get the tag title shot. Teddy hesitated and said he didn't know. Eve walked in and stepped between them. She handed Booker a portfolio that contained the win-loss records of every tag team as some suggestions on what Booker should do. She also handed him a piece of paper with his next two weeks scheduled. He thanked her for the help and left. Eve turned to Teddy and said she didn't even see him there. Teddy looked pissed...
Cole hyped anger management for Daniel Bryan on Monday... A video recapped what both Paul Heyman and Shawn Michaels said on Monday, as well as Lesnar's Tout... Orton made his ring entrance...[C]
Shore's Slant: Hmm. I have to admit I'm a little interested in what Eve is doing, which is a first I think. I hate Teddy Long's character with a passion, but maybe they have something good to build on here. An Impact Wrestling commercial aired for a local house show and they mispronounced the name of the coliseum. In case Jeremy Borash is reading, it's Joel like Billy, not like rhymes with noel.
[Q8] Alberto Del Rio was out with Ric Rod handling introductions. Sheamus was on commentary...
6. Randy Orton vs. Alberto Del Rio to become the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship. Both men got in some quick early offense. Orton clotheslined Del Rio over the top to the floor...[C] Del Rio worked a rest hold on Orton while a video showed Del Rio working the left arm during the break. Del Rio went for the cross arm breaker, but Orton shoved him into the corner. Del Rio hit an elbow and went to the top, but Orton drop kicked him out of the air for two.
Orton hit his rope DDT and stared at Sheamus. He setup for the RKO, but Del Rio grabbed the ropes and rolled Orton into the cross arm breaker. Orton tapped out for a Del Rio win.
Alberto Del Rio became the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship at 10:37.
Post-match, Del Rio shoved Ricardo down and took his shoe. He threw it at Sheamus, which caused Sheamus to rush the ring. Ricardo helped Del Rio get the upper hand on Sheamus and they left him lying. Ziggler's music hit and he ran to the ring and tried to cash in, but Orton flew in and hit a RKO to end the show...
Shore's Slant: Basic match, blah, blah, blah, RANDY ORTON TAPPED OUT CLEAN! If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it. I only look at match results for spoilers, never the match itself so that I can give an honest reaction to what I see. My honest reaction is HOLY F---! Good win for Del Rio, and now I am more convinced than ever this is the beginning of a heel turn for Orton. I'll have more to say tomorrow on the Hitlist and All Access audio. Thanks for watching along with me.
