ECW on the SciFi Network
Taped in Des Moines, IA
[Q1] Mike Adamle welcomed us to The ECW on SciFi. Armando Estrada stood in the ring with four former ECW Champions: Tommy Dreamer, C.M. Punk, Chavo Guerrero, and John Morrison. He said there would be a Fatal Fourway Singapore Cane match at One Night Stand and the winner would become the number one contender. He then made a tag match for tonight with Dreamer and Punk vs. Morrison and Chavo…
The opening video aired followed by an extended fireworks show. Adamle and The Tazz welcomed us to the show (again)…
1. The Miz defeated Kane by disqualification in a non-title match in 4:24. Miz said he had a headache and concussion because he was chokeslammed to the floor at Judgment Day. He called himself the co-star of the “highest rated show on WWE.com.” He said he would do tonight what Morrison will do at One Night Stand; beat Kane…
Twill’s Two Cents: Do they have ratings for internet shows? Anyway, it is nice to see a heel have confidence and not be a coward. Miz continues to prove his importance to the company with little steps like this.
Kane hit a right uppercut as the bell rang and knocked Miz down. He then hit a low dropkick on Miz. Miz took advantage by ramming Kane into the post outside of the ring. Back in the ring, Kane beat Miz into the corner. Adamle said Miz “was on three dollar street.” Tazz responded with, “I don’t know where the hell that is or what that means.” It was funny.
Kane hit the top rope closeline. He tried for the Chokeslam but was unable to hit it. He put Miz in the tree of woe, exited the ring, and began pulling on Miz’s neck. The referee disqualified Kane because he did not break the count…
After the match, Kane hit a chokeslam. He grabbed a chair and put Miz’s neck in between it. Kane went to the top but John Morrison came down and saved his partner…
Twill’s Two Cents: This was a decent match. Miz actually matched up nicely with Kane. I like Kane’s sadistic attitude at the end of the match. Miz looks strong for hanging with Kane; Kane looks like a badass.
[Q2] The announcers plugged Shelton Benjamin vs. Kofi Kingston… [C]
2. Shelton Benjamin defeated Kofi Kingston in 4:23. Adamle said both men called this a chess match. Both men showed off their athleticism. Kofi was seated on top of Shelton in an Electric Chair position, but reversed it into what could best be described as a one legged hurricarana.
Kofi jumped onto Shelton in the corner, but Shelton carried Kofi and dropped him leg first on the top turnbuckle. He worked on the injured leg. Kofi hit a huge dropkick but it did more harm than good. Shelton turned the “Boom Boom Boom” into a schoolboy for a nearfall. Kofi tried the Trouble in Paradise but missed and Shelton hit his finisher, sort of a jumping Mic Check, for the win…[C]
Twill’s Two Cents: Good match. Both guys did the most with their four plus minutes that they could. I said before Shelton needed to be the guy to end the undefeated streak and I am glad he did.
[Q3] 3. Colin Delaney and Kelly Kelly defeated Mike Knox and Layla in 2:06. Layla threw Kelly over the ropes, but she sort of skinned the cat, grabbing Layla with a head scissors and pulling her to the outside. Knox came in and threw Colin about 25 feet into the air. Tazz said, “I love Colin getting his ass kicked. It’s funny!” Out of nowhere, Kelly pinned Layla…
Knox laid Colin out with his finisher. Armando Estrada’s music hit and he came to the ring. He told the referee to ring the bell for an official match…
4. Armando Estrada defeated Colin Delaney in :09. Estrada hit the reverse front suplex for the win…[C]
Twill’s Two Cents: I am glad Kelly was on my television screen. Thanks to my HD dish going out, I had to watch her in regular definition this week. She still looked great. As for Colin and Armando, they could get some mileage out of the feud.
Back from commercial, they played an extended Raw Rebound as if they had time to kill. They showed Regal’s power trip over the past few weeks, him losing to Kennedy, and him walking from the arena with his suitcases in tow…
Adamle and Tazz ran down the One Night Stand card. Adamle called the Fatal Fourway a tag match. He realized he messed up and kept going…
[Q4] 5. Chavo Guerrero and John Morrison defeated C.M. Punk and Tommy Dreamer in 12:30. When Chavo came out, Adamle asked if he was walking with a limp, or walking like a pimp. Tazz thanked Adamle for schooling him on street lingo… [C]
Dreamer and Morrison started. Dreamer hit a big faceplant, followed by Ricky Steamboat like armdrags on both Morrison and Chavo. Punk tagged in and hit a nice delayed vertical suplex for the nearfall. Chavo tagged in and both men worked on Punk. Morrison hit an Electric Chair on Punk on the floor… [C]
Morrison hit a backbreaker/Russian Leg Sweep combination. Chavo kept Punk grounded by working on the head and neck area. Adamle said he saw Tazz in a Singapore Cane match and Tazz said he had never been in one. Awkward. He mispronounced “Singapore” and Tazz corrected him. Adamle said he and Tazz could have a match.
When Punk could not tag, Adamle said he needed to, “tap off.” Man, he went downhill quickly this week. Tommy finally got the hot tag. He hit a pump handle suplex and a DDT before the pin was broken up. Punk got rid of Morrison, but Chavo was able to hit the frogsplash on Tommy for the win…
Immediately following the three count, Big Show’s music hit and he came to the ring. He chokeslammed Chavo and Punk. He hit the cobra clutch swinging slam on Morrison. He grabbed the microphone and said since he is a former ECW Champion, he is entering himself into the match at the PPV. He said he would be champion again. He helped Dreamer up but then chokeslammed him…
Twill’s Two Cents: Punk looked great last night and took most of the beating tonight. It is like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde are booking him. I think Show deserves better than the ECW Championship, plus I think this show should be for the young and/or overlooked guys.
What did you think of the show? It was sort of a whirlwind to me as I was running back and forth from the computer to the B TV in the house. Email me and give me your thoughts. Rich Twilling can be reached at dotnetrich@gmail.com.
