12/20 WWE Smackdown taping in Orlando: Full report on the show taped for Christmas night (spoilers)
Dec 21, 2009 - 10:29 AM

Dot Net reader Bryan Holt attended the WWE Smackdown taping on Sunday in Orlando, Fla. and passed along the following report.

The show opened with a cheesy Vickie/Teddy Long/Hornswoggle Christmas skit. Way to get the viewer's attention right from the start WWE...

1. John Morrison, Matt Hardy, R-Truth and Finlay defeated CM Punk, Dolph Ziggler, Luke Gallows and Drew McIntyre. Typically do not like these huge tag matches but this was entertaining. Face team was way over with teh live crowd, especially Hardy whose name was chanted loudly everytime somebody thought he might be in the match.

Chris Jericho came out to complain about his tag titles rematch and being kicked off Raw. He was interrupted by the Hart Dynasty, which came out and cut a somewhat face-ish promo (could they be headed for a big face turn with Bret on the way in? You decide). The crowd kept cheering them until they realized that they were occasionally bashing Triple H and Shawn Michaels. DX got involved via video screen and made Canada jokes. Jericho told The HD they need to make an "impact" in the company so they do...by attacking Jericho.

2. Undertaker vs. Rey Mysterio ended in a DQ. No big shock here. Batista interfered during what had been a solid match and a three-way brawl broke out that ended with Mysterio the last man standing. First time that I've seen Taker in person, great stuff.

Cryme Time played Santa by mugging Santa (Jesse) and distributing all the toys on their way to a match with two local jobbers.

3. Cryme Tyme defeated two local wrestlers. And, uh, yeah, they won. Jobbers? Really? Is the tag division really in that bad of shape?

After a "Piggie James" segment earlier in the night,

4. Mickie James and Maria defeated Beth Phoenix and Layla. Typical short Divas tag match. Mickie James got teamed up on and beaten pretty badly after the match was over.

5. DX defeated The Hart Dynasty to retain the Unified Tag Titles. A very good match that made the HD look like substantial opponents. Interesting moment before the match when the DX music blasted before Shawn got to add "and if you're not down with that..." DX signaled over and over again for the music to be cut before it ever was. HBK looked a bit aggravated.

Afterward, Hornswoggle came out and celebrated with DX. They looked peaceful, possibly a sign for the result of tomorrow night's highly anticipated Little People's court (ugh).

Good show, as always. Not sure how it will be taken on TV but it always seems much more tolerable in person.
