WWE Superstars Hits

Zack Ryder vs. Shelton Benjamin: Good opening match that was the best of the show. The crowd got into it a few times and they told a good story. I didn’t even mind the ending as it progressed the storyline. I am softening on this feud a little after Twilling pointed out that these guys could be mired in ECW jobber hell and any storyline is better that none. Still, it’s hard to get behind a feud when I care about nobody in it. Benjamin will never be the star due to his mic skills, Ryder annoys the hell out of me, and Rosa is playing a dumb blonde. Yawn.

Drew McIntyre video: Drew desperately needs some help getting over. The fans hate him enough to cheer their asses of when Jimmy Wang Yang chops him, but they don’t seem to get off on Finlay doing it. The video was well done, as usual, and helped this young man. Now if Hayes will just give him a real face to feud with.

WWE Superstars Misses

Mark Henry vs. Cody Rhodes: Not surprisingly, this match was nowhere near the MVP/DiBiase match. Nor did I expect it to be. But I did expect for Rhodes to get some decent offense in. The foot DDT was cool, but other than that, Cody spent the night bouncing off of Henry and flopping around like a rag doll. Henry hit the world’s strongest slam on seconds after his knee buckling under Cody’s weight. Bad storytelling in the ring.

Eric Escobar vs. Jimmy Wang Yang: Drew McIntyre’s destruction of Yang didn’t help this match any, and Escobar still looks really green. His match with Hardy not to long ago was better than this, but only by a small margin. Both men looked sloppy. Vickie is bringing heat to Escobar, but he loses it almost immediately in the ring.

Overall Show: A miss this week only because two of the three matches were weak to forgettable. The show wasn’t bad as much as it didn’t do much. In fact, I had to look over my report to remember a few things. That’s never a good sign. The show promoted Survivor Series better than Raw did, but that’s not saying much.
