Dot Net Exclusive notes: Rock's WWE Hall of Fame routine, scrapped WrestleMania weekend plan for Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy
Apr 2, 2008 - 09:33 AM |
|
-The roast-like portions of Dwanye "The Rock" Johnson's speech were written by Raw lead writer Brian Gewirtz. Rock arrived on Friday night and spent portions of that night and Saturday working on the material, which most likely consisted of bullet points and one-liners. Gewirtz writes the bulk of Rock's WWE material and has for quite some time.
-One idea that never came to fruition was for Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy to induct Jack Brisco and Jerry Brisco into the WWE Hall of Fame. Obviously, Jeff's 60-day suspension put a damper on that idea. Of course, Jeff was also the original pick to win the Money in the Bank ladder match.
Powell's POV: The edited version of Rock's speech that aired on USA Network was one of the highlights of the ceremony. I don't think anyone in WWE was happy that Rock's speech or the entire HOF ceremony lasted as long as it did live, but there are no confirmed reports of him blowing off any "wrap it up" signs from anyone on the production team.
There was no plan in place for Jeff Hardy to cash in his Money in the Bank contract at WrestleMania 24. However, there was plenty of discussion about him winning the WWE Title this year. One source previously claimed there was a plan in place for him to win the title this spring, while others say it was more of a summer plan. Either way, Jeff's suspension cost him a run with the WWE Title. With two strikes against him in the WWE drug testing policy, it's hard to imagine him getting a run with the belt anytime soon.
