WWE Champion John Cena comments on the signings of Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness, and the need to create new stars
Sep 28, 2009 - 12:06 PM

WWE Champion John Cena was asked by Slam Wrestling whether the locker room is talking about the signings of Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness. "Certainly, if the locker room remembers that Velocity match [between Cena and Danielson] a long time ago, they're much more of the historian category than I am," Cena said. "We're always happy to get any sort of talent. I think Bryan will be a wonderful acquisition for the program, as well as any of our developmental superstars."

Cena also spoke about younger wrestlers who are getting a chance to shine. "The good news is that the company is not clearly behind one person," he said. "They're kind of spreading themselves out to see who works out. Between Miz between (John) Morrison, between Sheamus, between Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase, Kofi Kingston, there are so many guys that are getting a shot -- finally. It's just good to see a lot of people getting a shot at once rather than the company firmly backing one individual." To read the full interview, visit Slam Wrestling.

Powell's POV: Cena also commented on the difference between winning the WWE Championship for the first time and the sixth time. It's good to hear him speak favorably about the need to create new stars. He wasn't as outspoken as Chris Jericho has been in recent interviews, but at least Cena is publicly acknowledging the need to elevate young talent.
